Question:
How come in the videos and instructions there is no information about connecting the reverse lights circuit. In Texas, RV Trailers are now being required to have an inspection and if the 7-way plug has a wire for the reverse lights circuit I may need to have this attached this year. Can you please provide some guidance for a 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser? I have see some folks talk about tapping the reverse lamps in the back of the truck. What does that mean and would both the right and left lamps need wiring? Thanks, Gary

Because most trailers don't have reverse lights, we don't have any video footage the adapter from the # ETBC7 being wired into the reverse light circuit of a Toyota FJ Cruiser. However, I can run you through the process.
You'd want to access the rear of the taillight assembly on your FJ Cruiser, as if you were replacing a burned-out light bulb. Have a helper place the transmission in reverse, while you use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on the wires leading to the reverse light bulb. When you find the circuit that goes hot only when the transmission goes into reverse, that's your reverse lamp circuit.
The easiest way to tap into the circuit would be to use a quick splice connector like part # SWC502905-1. Use a length of 16-gauge wire # DW02359-1 (sold by the foot) to connect the quick connector to the purple wire on the 4-pole to 7-way adapter.
