Expert Reply:
Of all the 2-inch Class III hitches we offer for your 2006 Mercedes-Benz ML350 I recommend the Curt # 13342. The installation process includes some drilling and all required hardware is included with the hitch. I have linked the written instructions as well as two helpful articles concerning hitch installation that will make the process easier.
Please note none of the available hitches will fit your ML350 if it has the OEM Air Suspension System.
You will also need a ball mount, hitch ball and a hitch pin and clip. You can use ball mount # C45010 and either 2-inch ball # 63845 or 1-7/8-inch # 19260. For a pin and clip use part # PC3.
For a wiring harness I recommend the Curt # C59236 because it will help protect the ML350's taillight circuit from excessive power draw from the trailer lights. Your install will be easier if you have a circuit tester like # PTW2993 which will make it simple to identify the wire functions. A wire's color is not a reliable way to tell what function it carries. Testing removes all doubt and will avoid any risk to the harness and vehicle.
I linked the written instructions for the harness, an install video as well as a helpful article to aid your wiring installation.
