Trailer Hitch and Bike Carrier Recommendations for a 2006 Honda CR-V

Published 06/02/2015

Question:

I am shopping around for a bike rack for my 2006 Honda CRV. The vehicle does not have a back hitch. I am thinking that my vehicle will only support a tire mounted rack of some sort. But I dont know if there is a hitch that can be used. Can you tell me what would be the best product for my vehicle? Thank you.

There are indeed trailer hitches that will fit your 2006 Honda CR-V. If you decide on going with a hitch mount bike carrier I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75690. This hitch has a 2 inch receiver opening that will afford you many bike carrier options.

Because of the rear mounted spare tire, you will need a carrier that extends out far enough to clear it (approximately 8-3/4 inches from the center of the pin hole, once the hitch is installed, back to clear the spare tire). The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider, # HR200Z, measures 12-1/8 inches from the center of the pin hole to the nearest wheel hoop so it is a good option.

If you want a carrier that attaches to the spare tire mount then I recommend the . Thule Spare Me 2 Bike Rack # TH963PRO

I have included some links on the hitch installation and the bike carriers for you.
