Question:
Have a 86 Toyota 4 runner and found a nice Excalibur tow bar and need specks on baseplate for it?

Expert Reply:
The Excali-bar tow bar is made by Demco and there are some adapters that will allow you to use other manufacturer base plates, such as Roadmaster, with Demco tow bars.
What you will first need are the base plates for your 1986 Toyota 4Runner. You can use base plate set # 1123-1. You will also need adapter # RM-032 to use the Demco Excali-Bar tow bar.
Next you will need safety cables such as # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting, a simple magnetic kit, # RM-2120, would be all that you would need.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the RV is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
