You can add a converter to the trailer wiring to separate the brake and turn signals. You will also need to add an amber turn lights to your trailer.
You can use the tail light converter, part # 118158. This will separate the turn signal circuit from the brake light circuit. This should be installed on the trailer in a way that keeps it protected from the elements. You will need to use the wires from your trailer wiring harness and attach them in the following manner. Attach the right turn/ brake circuit to the green wire, the left turn/ brake circuit to the yellow wire and the white wire will ground to the ground wire from the trailer connector that is grounded to the trailer frame. The running light circuit(usually brown), will bypass the converter entirely, since it does not need to be converted.
On the output side of the converter, the yellow wire connects to the wire for the amber turn signal lamp on the drivers side, and the green wire connects to the wire for the amber turn signal lamp on the passenger side. The red wire is spliced to each side of the trailer and connects to the red stoplight lamp wires, and the brown wire that bypassed the converter is spliced to each side of the trailer and connected to the running light lamp wires.
I have attached a drawing that shows how the wires should be run.
For amber turn lights I recommend a light like part # ST70AB. This light has 1 incandescent bulb and measures 6-1/2 inches long x 2-1/4 inches wide x 2-3/8 inches deep. I have attached a link to a product review video you can check out. For a round light part # ST45AB. I have attached a link to our product page for the lights we offer that have an amber lens.
