Question:
I have an 06 explorer V6 with 1.25 hitch receiver. I already bought a 2 inch receiver adapter, but there is a lot of play in the 2 inch adapter when I put it in the 1.25 receiver. What can I do to make sure everything stays put? I was thinking about the Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge. Would this be the correct thing? Thank you.

The No-Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge, part # MPG908 will likely reduce buy not eliminate the movement you are experiencing.
Keep in mind that using the adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of your factory hitch by 50%. If the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is 350 lbs, using the adapter will lower it to 175 lbs. This means that the hitch will only be able to withstand 175 lbs of downward force.
My best recommendation for maximum safety would be to install an aftermarket hitch with the 2 inch receiver opening. This would eliminate the need for the adapter and reduce some of the rattling. When using that adapter you now have two different connection points that can rattle. One is the attachment point between the adapter and the receiver, the other is the point where your accessory fastens into the adapter.
I would recommend the Draw-Tite Receiver Hitch, part # 75437. This hitch is specifically designed to upgrade the factory receiver to the 2 inch size. For your convenience I will provide a link below to the installation instructions.
