Will Curt Front Mount Hitch 31408 Interfere With Stock Bumper Blocks on a 1999 Jeep TJ
Updated 03/31/2010 | Published 03/29/2010 >
Question:
I see from the mounting instructions that I will need to remove the factory tow hooks, but your instructions do not mention the stock rubber bumper blocks on the front bumper. Do they need to be removed or cut, or does the hitch stay out of the way of them?

Expert Reply:
Front mounted hitch # 31408 should not interfere with the rubber bumper blocks on your 1999 Jeep TJ, as the hitch is installing directly to pre-existing holes in the vehicle frame. The hitch also sits above the bumper and frame rails for better clearance.
You can, however, check to make sure that the bumper blocks are out of the way and are not going interfere with the installation. The hitch mounting holes are going to be in line with the frame rails on either side, and the hitch sits down on top of the holes.
As you go to re-install the plastic shield that fits between the grill and the bumper, over the hitch, you might find that that some minor trimming is required for the shield to fit around the newly installed hitch.
I have included a link to the installation instructions to give you a better idea of where the hitch will be installed.
