Question:

I have a 2014 Ford Edge SEL with factory tow package. I need to install a brake controller to pull a 3000 lb pop up trailer. The factory package includes a flat four connector. Is there a part that allows you to use the factory flat four ground wire as the ground for the 7 pin plug? Second, do you know if this vehicle has a plug that can be used to connect to the brake controller? If so, where is the plug? Any advice you can offer will be much appreciated. Thanks.

We can help you with selecting and installing a trailer brake controller in your 2014 Ford Edge SEL with factory tow package. Since you already have a working 4-pole trailer connector you will just need the controller itself plus the # ETBC7 installation kit you referenced. Your 4-pole will plug right in to the 7-way included in the installation kit and establish the ground.

I recommend the Prodigy P2 proportional brake controller # 90885 from Tekonsha. This is among the most reliable and easy-to-use controllers on the market and it is highly-rated by our customers who use it. Installation of this unit along with the ETBC7 is shown on a 2011 Edge in the linked video. I also linked for you two helpful articles on brake controller installations.

Your Edge does not have a quick-connect under-dash port for a brake controller so your application will be a hard-wired installation. Each step is illustrated in the video.

You might consider using the bracket referenced in the video, part # C57202, and some dielectric grease, part # 11755, to keep your connections free of corrosion.

I need to wire up a 2014 Ford Edge self with trailer tow package does the hard wire kit for the brake controller tell you which wire that needs to be tapped into for the break signal or am I on my own? Thank you

When making the brake controller connections you'll need to use a circuit tester to determine the right factory wire to tap into behind the brake pedal. For the red wire on the brake controller you're looking for the wire that ONLY receives power when the brake pedal is depressed (and no power with any other function).
