etrailer cargo carrier

Note: This is not rated for use on the back of an RV or motorhome.

This cargo carrier lets you transport your gear on the back of your vehicle. It tilts down for cargo area access even when it's loaded with gear, and you can fold it up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. It has raised side rails that help contain your gear and provide tie-down points, and the steel mesh floor offers stability for your cargo.

Tilting and Folding Design

etrailer cargo carrier

The carrier tilts down - even when it's loaded with gear - so you can easily access your vehicle's rear cargo area. Before you tilt the carrier make sure your cargo is strapped down and secure. Simply support the front edge with one hand, remove the pins (standard 5/8" or 16 mm diameter 2" hitch pins) located in the upper and center shank holes, and gently lower the carrier.

etrailer cargo carrier

When the carrier is not being used, you can fold it up against the back of your vehicle. This lets you fit into your garage and other tight parking spaces without removing the basket. To fold the basket up, just remove the pin from the center shank hole, fold the rack up toward your vehicle, then reinsert the pin into the bottom shank hole.

Raised Side Rails

etrailer cargo carrier

The carrier has raised side rails that help keep your cargo in place. The rails also provide multiple anchor points for a cargo net, bungee straps, or other tie-downs.

Angled and Extended Shank

etrailer cargo carrier etrailer cargo carrier

The shank on this carrier is raised to improve ground clearance, and to make it easier for you to load and unload your cargo. It also extends the basket away from your vehicle, which helps prevent contact with your bumper or rear-mounted spare tire when the carrier is folded up.

Easy Assembly and Durable Construction

etrailer cargo carrier

The carrier is easy to assemble. Simply bolt it together with the included hardware. The basket is made of heavy-duty steel with a rust-resistant black powder coat finish, and it has an easy-to-clean mesh floor. You can add a light kit (sold separately), which is required if your gear blocks your vehicle's tail lights.

Automatic Hitch Pin Hole Alignment

Alignment Collar

The stop collar automatically aligns the pin holes on the shank and your hitch every time you install the carrier. It prevents you from having to get on your hands and knees to check for pinhole alignment. It's quick and easy to install, just slide the collar onto the shank, insert the carrier into your hitch, align the pin holes, slide the collar up against your hitch, and tighten down the bolt with included hand knobs. Once it's set up you never have to adjust it again.

Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin

etrailer cargo carrier

An anti-rattle hitch pin is included for securing the carrier to the hitch receiver. Align the hole in the shank with the hole in your vehicle's hitch, insert the pin into the hole, and secure with the clip. This will reduce noise and movement of the carrier in your hitch. For added security, swap out the included pin for the etrailer D-Shape Anti-Rattle Locking Pin (e99047, sold separately) and enjoy all the anti-rattle benefits with extra peace of mind.

  • Best RV Rated Cargo Carrier Option for Cooler, Generator and Bikes
I do have a solution for you, but the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874 is not designed to be used on the back of an RV. Generally speaking, folding carriers are not ideal because they do not stand up too well to the extra stress exerted by the excessive up and down movement that takes place behind the rear axle of an RV. Instead, take a look at the 23x60 Stromberg Carlson Cargo Carrier # CC-100. It's also rated for 500 lbs and it's basically the same size. The difference is that Stomberg...

  • Best Cargo Basket And Hitch Extender For 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Yes, it would be wise to grab the 8 inch extender # e88YR but the Reese Cargo Carrier # 63153 isn't what you want. It lacks the tilting feature which also means it cannot fold up to your 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited when not in use. The etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874 can tilt and fold up! That's a feature I use alot because I don't like having to take the carrier in and out that often. With the 8 inch extension, you should be able to fold it up with no problem! If it were me, I would...

  • Best Trailer Hitch, Cargo Carrier and Cargo Bag for 2018 Infiniti QX60
We have all the best parts to add a hitch, cargo carrier and cargo bag to your 2018 Infiniti QX60, and let's start with the hitch. The best hitch for your 2018 Infiniti QX60 is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76031 because it is has the most ground clearance and bumper clearance of any hitch for your car. This means your cargo carrier is going to be as high off the ground as it can be with this hitch over any other. I have added a photo and a link to a video install on an '18 QX60...

  • Reflector Solution for Use with etrailer Cargo Carrier e98874
For reflectors to use with the etrailer cargo carrier you have now # e98874 we normally recommend the # RE10RB which is a quantity of 2. These have an adhesive backing that you can use to apply them to the railings of the carrier. This would be the easiest solution but these also have holes you could use to drill into the carrier and permanently like that as well. Where you want to install them is up to you though.

  • What Can Help Control the Bouncing and Shaking Seen on Hitch Mounted Cargo Carriers
The bouncing and shaking that you saw in the video is the norm on the majority of cargo carriers on the market. The extended location from the hitch causes the carrier to bounce more than a hitch accessory that might sit closer to the vehicle. There are a few products that can help with the bounce. An anti-rattle device, like # e99007 for 2 inch hitches, can help by securing the cargo carrier's hitch shank to the hitch receiver. The bolts will push the shank up tight against the top of...

  • How To Carry A Cargo Carrier and Tow A Trailer At The Same Time
It is possible to carry a cargo carrier like part # e98874 and tow a trailer with a vehicle but not in tandem. You would need to use a Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount part # D210 to carry the cargo carrier in the top receiver and then tow the trailer with the ball mount portion like in the photo I attached. The only stipulation is the dual receiver does reduce the tongue weight rating of your hitch in half so you would want to keep that in mind. You also don't really want to use a cargo carrier...

Hey Gus, you can carry a propane tank or a gas can on the etrailer cargo carrier part # e98874 even though when you think about it does seem a little sketchy. There are no laws against it and as long as you are smart and safe about it it's totally fine. Do you have tie downs/ratchet straps?

  • Solution for Covering Rust on Scraped Trailer Hitch
Hey Valerie, so this is a pretty common problem and what I would recommend is put some Rust Reformer spray paint on the rust spot. This is designed to stop the spread of rust and cover/protect the metal. I've used this on similar projects and it works well without having to mess with sanding etc. What are you using the hitch for?

  • Best Bike Rack For Carrying Tern GSD E-Bike With Tesla Model Y
Hello Eric, thanks for reaching out. We do have a rack that seems to meet all of your requirements. What I recommend is the following: - Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # HLY84FR This rack is great for heavy bikes, it has a weight capacity of up to 80 lbs per bike. It also can accommodate wheelbases up to 60", so it sounds like this will work well for your bike. Just keep in mind the rack is a frame mount, so you may need an adapter...

  • What is Second Smaller Pin Hole for on Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver
Hey Amy, thanks for reaching out! You'll need to use the larger of the two pin holes on your Draw-Tite hitch when installing the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874. Back in the day, Draw-Tite had a special J-Style pin that fit in both pin holes but they got rid of that pin a few years ago. The larger hole is for standard hitch pins so that's what you'll want to stick with! Let me know if you have any other questions!

  • Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2015 Jeep Wrangler
The etrailer Folding Cargo Carrier part # e98874 that you referenced should work well on your 2015 Wrangler and clear the spare when folded up. If you check out the video I attached you will see that this carrier should clear the spare when folded up and should allow the rear gate to open slightly when the carrier is folded down. It should work well for you.

  • Is License Plate Bracket Needed when Using Cargo Carrier # C18113
If you wanted to mount your license plate to the Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18113 you could but we don't have a specific way to do so. You could attach something like the part # LP35BB to it if you'd be willing to modify the carrier. Now that said we've found that when license plates are obscured by cargo carriers like this police officers generally are not bothered enough to pull people over and give them a hard time. Using a rise adapter to try and gain more ground clearance isn't...

No, these are 2 different brands. The Pro Series carrier is made by Cequent/Horizon Global and on it is # 6502. The other one, # C18109, is made by Curt manufacturing. The Curt model is also larger at 19 x 60 inches compared to 20 x 48 inches for # 6502. Both only fit 2 inch trailer hitches, both can fold up, and both have a 500 pound capacity. Another key difference is that the Curt model has a straight shank and the Pro Series has a rise in the shank (if more ground clearance is needed)....

Hi Emmanuel! As long as you have a 2" hitch on your 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross, you can absolutely use the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874. If you do not have a hitch yet, I recommend grabbing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 2" # C64DR. Hey Bill, so I found the picture and review you mentioned and what you can see in that picture is that it is being used at the rear of a travel trailer which is A LOT rougher than the rear of a vehicle. This is due to the much less sophisticated suspension and the much larger distance between the rear axle of the trailer and the rear of the trailer. This great exaggerates every bump you hit due to the increased leverage this creates. This puts a lot more stress on unsupported loads like...
