Video Transcript for Review of Reese Fifth Wheel Custom Installation Kit - Toyota Tundra - RP50084-58

Michael: Hi, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches. This kit is going to work for your 2007 through 2019 Toyota Tundra trucks. It's going to include everything you need to get your Fifth Wheel Hitch hooked up to your Toyota Tundra. The kit includes your custom brackets, your rails, and all your hardware. These custom brackets, they mount to the frame of your Tundra beneath the bed, and they provide the attachment points for your Fifth Wheel rails.

The rails sit inside the bed and they are what your Fifth Wheel Hitch attaches to. The nice thing about these custom brackets is that they use the existing holes in your Tundra's frame, so you're not going to have to do nearly as much drilling, which in turn is going to make the install a lot faster and could cut the install time down to about half of what you would get with your universal bracket systems. You are going to have to drill through your truck bed to make the attachments between your brackets and your rails, but that should be the only drilling that you really have to do. This kit is compatible with a lot of different types of Hitches. So, whether you have a Curt or Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese Valley or Husky Hitch, it's going to work great. There are a few Hitches that it will not work with, which would be the Reese Elite Series, Signature Series, or the Valley UBS Hitches.

The rails and the brackets are made out of a solid steel construction, and they have a nice black powder coat finish that's going to help them resist any rust and corrosion. Our rails are 43 inches long. They're going to be five and three fourths inches wide, and they're going to stick up about an inch and an eight. So, keep that in mind. This is a permanent installation, so you are going to have to live with these in the back of your truck. So, if you're doing things other than hauling your Fifth Wheel, and they might be cumbersome, might reduce some of the bed access you have, but they are going to work really well for pulling your Fifth Wheel Hitch.

They do come with a five-year limited warranty from Reese, and that's going to complete our look at the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit for your Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches..

VERY IMPRESSIVE Custom kit ! The RP50084-58 makes universal types a why bother option. I've done one and comparing the drill time saving and odd angling L straps you get with them, these meaty and made for, no guess work brackets are what makes this kit a no brainer. So pleased I chose it to haul our 30ftr. with my Tundra. Instructions are good and hardware is top notch. I'm 60 yrs. old and did it alone in my driveway if that helps anyone's decision LOL! Love your products and your company etrailer

How’s it working out? It’s still out working! checked nuts after a couple trips, undercoated everything. No issues

The Quick Install Installation Kit made installation of the 5th wheel hitch in my 2014 Tundra fairly easy. (It's still work, but makes it possible for someone with mechanical ability to get it done) I would highly recommend the kit as well as etrailer.

Note: I did not need to remove my rear air bags as claimed by etrailer. The air bags and hitch worked together just fine.

2019 Toyota Tundra

This was our 2nd rail installation. The first was just a rail kit for a a toyota tundra. The second was a "specific custom rail kit" for our new 2019 Toyota Tundra. Well worth the money. It installed easily with no frame drilling. Order a custom rail kit for your truck, you will not regret it.

by:

Well made product. Custom fit means only drilling is in the truck bed. The rear most bolts on the front and rear rail are a major pita to get to. All 4 are basically hidden between the frame and bed. Defiantly a 2 person job. Only option on tightening is an open end wrench and lots of cramps from being a contortionist trying to find them. Overall I would buy again, but let someone else install??

by:

Custom rail kit was great. Directions are really good and easy to follow. Bracket pieces are very heavy duty. Was happy with everything other than they use UPS and it’s always a delayed delivery in our area now with the Covid thing it gives them a excuse to have late deliveries non-stop! Was Two days late! Excellent Product! Excellent Company!

Product arrived in the scheduled time and was relatively easy to install with some minor difficulties due to Toyota tundra chassis.
All in all very happy with the product and Etrailer.
Would not hesitate to order from them again.

Great package. Had it for a year and not one nut and bolt has loosened. My 1/2 ton Toyota tows my 28' fifth wheel no problem.

by:

Got product very quick, all parts there, directions very good, very happy with my product and etrailer.com...

by:

I started to install myself but ran into a problem. So then went to a place to have installed. Only costed me $700. to have installed the installer was amazed with it. He said it was a lot more easy compared to the company’s.

by:

no instructions was able to download from website they where fairly clear
but there is room for some improvment I have done mechanical work most of my life Iam 67 so i try to be fair in my evaluation this is a good product would buy again

the best part of this kit was the brackets fit my truck perfectly . A template to lay in the bed for rail hole configuration would have been a great help . the big reason I rated this a 3 star is I live in the country and had to drive 30 miles to get the correct bolts needed to mount the rails { the kit was missing 8 carriage bolts , lock nuts and washers }

  • Will I Need A Slider For Towing 5th Wheel With 2016 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 6.5' Bed?
Hello David, thanks for reaching out. There is actually a formula you can use to determine if you will need a slider hitch. The formula is as follows: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from the fifth wheel jaw center to the truck cab B = Offset used (slider clearance or Sidewinder offset) C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2 As far as the rail kit, I looked up the 50085 rail kit you mentioned and this is for a 2013-2025 Ram 3500, so this will not work for your Tundra....

  • Can I Use Reese 5th Wheel Brackets on Curt Rails w/ a 2018 Toyota Tundra?
No, you're going to want to use the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Bracket Kit item # C16468 since you already have a set of Curt 5th wheel rails like item # C16204. You don't want to mix match the different manufacturer's parts in this situation so if you have Curt stick with Curt. Please note that the Curt set up will not work if your 2018 Toyota Tundra has the 5-1/2' bed. If you have the shorter bed length you'll need to use the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for...

As long as you have a set of fifth wheel rails installed in the bed of your 2016 Toyota Tundra the Andersen Ultimate Connection part # AM3200 can be installed and then attach to your fifth wheel pin box. For a set of rails confirmed as a fit for your 2016 Toyota Tundra you'd want the part # RP50084-58. This is a custom fit rail kit that would minimize drilling when compared to a universal one.

The Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50084-58 will place the rails 22" apart from center to center, which is the industry standard. The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3200 has industry standard mounting points so it will be a compatible fit. When installing the rails I leave the bolts that connect them to the frame brackets a little bit loose and place the hitch in place and then tighten them down to ensure an easy fit. The problem isn't that you have a Tundra because you can install a fifth wheel rail kit # RP50084-58 into your 2012 Toyota Tundra without a problem. Any industry standard fifth wheel hitch will fit into the rail kit. The problem you'll run into the is the 5-1/2 foot bed. With such a short bed you will have issues with turn clearance between the truck and the trailer. A sliding hitch isn't even a good option because with the bed so short it still may not give you enough clearance and...

This hitch has 22-1/2" of travel to give you the same amount of turning clearance that a rotating pin box would give you. So, you can pull the 5th wheel trailer you are asking about safely, however, you will want to be extremely careful as to how much weight you add to it. You could easily add 500 lbs to a trailer and be over your towing capacity, so you may want to consider a lighter trailer, but it is possible to safely tow the one you mentioned as long as you extremely aware of what you load. The hitch pin weight of 1400 lbs you stated is so close to your payload capacity, but that is not accounting for the 5th wheel hitch and rail weights or the loaded weight with cargo added. Tunda's are notorious for having a lower payload and in this case, I can't tell you it will be fine. The payload weight is spread out over the truck bed where the 5th wheel rails are mounted to the frame directly so are more secure. Do you know what brand rails you have? We can't recommend mixing rail and bracket manufacturers but if you have the very popular brand Reese then the hardware kit you would need is the part # RP50084. If you can't find the brand the safest recommendation I could make then would be the part # RP50084-58 which includes new rails as well. If you do go with just the bracket kit you will also need the hardware kit part # 58164 to attach the rails to the brackets.

For example, the regular cab Tundra with 4WD, 3UR-FE engine, and an 8 foot bed can potentially tow a trailer that weighs up to 10,300 pounds. However if you have a double cab model with the 1UR-FE engine this capacity can drop to as low as 6,500 pounds. Because of this wide range, and...

This dimension would be measured from the rear edge of the rear rail to the rear edge of the truck bed. That 6 inches may not seem like a lot but it makes a huge difference and even some 6 and 6-1/2 foot beds would have to have a Sidewinder depending on how wide the trailer is. With the design of the trailer you can use a regular fixed hitch instead of a slider.
