Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-way Flat Trailer Connector. Now, this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2021 Ford F-150 trucks with the factory 7-way and the backup sensors, excluding LED tail lights. Now, on a custom fit part like this, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this'll work for your application. Now, this kit will provide this 4-way flat trailer connector to the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters that we do sell separately on our website.

This does connect very quickly and easily, all you have to do is locate your connection points, which are behind the tail lights. So again, these T-connectors, one for each side, one for the driver's side and one for the passenger's side, grounds your white wire right here, and then run your power wire up to your vehicle's battery. Now, this harness does include this tail light converter, this black box here, and this is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It is a powered module, so it does connect directly to the battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system, and this is constructed with SMT technology, which stands for surface-mount technology, gives you more consistent reliable performance, it'll let you maximize trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, and it also ensures superior operation in rough road conditions. Now, this kit does even come with this nice rubber dust cover for your 4-way, so basically, after you get this installed, you can just attach this to the 4-way and you could leave it on there if you want, and then when you're not plugged into your trailer, all you have to do is put that over the terminals, protects them from any damage or from the elements.

Few specs on this, the maximum amperage for the stop and turn light circuits is five amps per circuit, for the tail lights, it's 7.5 amps per circuit. It does come with everything laid out here on the table, and just to go through all these parts, basically, again, what you'll do when you go to install this, now, they do give you a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how to connect everything, but basically, again, you'll go to the rear of your vehicle behind the tail lights, start on the driver's side, take the T-connector that has the yellow wire, that's for the driver's side, unplug your harness, plug this into there, take the other T-connector, which has the green wire, that's for your passenger's side, and you can see it's a length of wire, 'cause you wanna run that over to the passenger side, plug that in, that's all ready to go. Run your bonded wire out here, the 4-way, out towards the back to the trailer, and you'll have your two remaining wires, the white wire and the black wire. Again, the white wire's for a ground, so you need to connect it to a good clean ground if there's one nearby, if not, they do include a screw that you could make your own ground, and then the last thing is to connect this power wire to your vehicle's battery. Now, that has to go to the front of the vehicle, so that's why they give you this extra length of wire and the connectors.

So you'll take a butt connector, put it on the power wire, connect it to one end of this length of wire, and then run that wire up to the front, and when you get to the front, you don't wanna connect it directly to the vehicle's battery, you wanna run it through this inline fuse holder. So you take the other butt connector, connect it to one side of the fuse holder, just like that, and on the other side of the fuse holder, take your eyelet connector, connect it, and then connect that to the battery. Once it's all connected, take your 10 amp fuse, put it into your fuse holder, close your fuse holder up, and your system's all ready to go. Now, they do give you some extra cable ties to take up any slack in this wiring when you install it, and they do also give you this piece of double faced tape, and what that's used for is this black box, has some weight to it, you don't want it bouncing around, you wanna attach it to a flat surface. So they have a tab with a hole here, you can put a screw through there, or you can use this included piece of double faced tape to attach it down.

But that should do it for the review on the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-way Flat Trailer Connector..

Great product. And even better customer service. I had a delivery issue and Josh handled it quickly and followed up after delivery to make sure I was happy. Would definitely recommend etrailer to everyone. Just for the record I ordered 3 other harnesses from other company's before ordering from here and none worked properly.

Fast delivery and all required parts were included. Also no problem with my returning this item. (I ordered the wrong harness!)
