Features to know about

Easy to Move, Easy to Manage

Velit App

This heater isn't locked into one rig or one setup. Taking your build to the mountains this weekend and crashing in your buddy's van next? It comes with you.

Cold weather camping

The Travel Box is a self-contained, portable heater. Load it in the truck, drag it to base camp, or park it beside a tent when plans shift. With its own fuel tank, pump, and battery, it delivers the same heat wherever you set it down.

Designed for Cold Camping, Not Campground Glamping

Panel Controls

When you're hunting, fishing, or just holding onto the quiet, staying warm isn't something you want to think about. The Travel Box 2.0 is weather-resistant, low-noise, and built for winter trips where power outlets don't exist. It's made for outdoor use but can vent heat safely into a tent, trailer, or tiny cabin to take the edge off wicked-cold nights. Setup takes minutes: connect the air duct, attach the exhaust pipe, and plug in the fuel line. The built-in 22 Ah battery runs up to nine hours on a full tank and recharges through a 12-volt source, battery clamps, or the included 110 / 220 V charger.

Ready for Rough Weather and Thin Air

High elevation doesn't slow it down. The Travel Box 2.0 runs steady up to 9,800 ft without calibration or extra parts. Its IP-51-rated shell sheds light rain and road spray, and every connection is sealed to keep heat output stable in less-than-desirable conditions.

Easy to Charge, Simple to Control

Panel Controls

Powering up is straightforward. Charge the internal battery through a 12 V socket or household outlet, then start the unit with a single button press. Initial startup takes about 3 min, so don't worry if it doesn't immediately pump out hot air like a residential space heater. For more control, pair it with an optional external temperature sensor that lets you fine-tune cabin temps from inside your shelter (not included).

If you're into van life, winter camping, or just need backup heat in a remote spot, this Autoterm Travel Box 2.0 diesel heater is a solid option. It’s fully self-contained, so you’re not tapping into your vehicle’s fuel or battery. Just set it outside, run your ducting, hit the power button, and you’ve got dry, reliable heat even when it’s brutal out. It’s rated to work all the way down to -40°F, and it’s pre-calibrated for high altitudes up to 13,700 feet so no adjustments needed if you’re in the mountains.

  • Will the Travelbox 2.0 RV Heater be enough for cold-weather tent camping over night?
Travis, that’s exactly what the Travelbox RV Heater # AU36MR was built for. It’s fully self-contained, so you don’t need to wire anything or run a generator; just place it outside, run the duct inside, and press the button. Autoterm says it has the fuel capacity to run up to 9 hours in the cold, so that should be plenty for overnight without any other power sources. It runs clean at up to 13,700 feet and keeps pumping dry heat down to -40°F. If you’re out there multiple nights, bring extra...

  • Can I Control Autoterm Heater With Thermostat Or Smartphone So I Don't Have To Get Up At Night?
Great question, and you're in luck. Both the Air 2D # AU56MR and Air 4D # AU96MR come with a control panel that lets you set and maintain a specific cabin temperature. Once you dial in your desired temp, the heater automatically ramps up or down (or cycles off) to hold it there, no middle-of-the-night adjustments needed. The Travelbox 2.0 # AU36MR also supports temperature-based control, but you’ll need to plug in the optional external temp sensor (sold separately) for that feature. Out...

  • Is the Travelbox camp heater loud when running at night?
Not at all, Rob. The Travelbox heater # AU36MR runs very quietly - it’s mostly just a soft hum and some faint ticking from the fuel pump which is very quiet. Definitely way quieter than a generator or even a propane furnace blower. If you place it a few feet from your tent or trailer and route the duct inside, you’ll hardly notice it at all! What are some of your favorite places to camp? And is this going in a roof top tent or ground tent?

  • Do the Autoterm heater kits come with all the hoses and ducting I’ll need?
Kara, the Air 2D # AU56MR kit comes with the core components: exhaust and intake pipes, wiring harness, fuel pump, control panel, and a basic length of 60mm hot air duct. But if you’re heating multiple zones or mounting far from where the air enters your van, you’ll probably want more ducting or a splitter. Same goes for the Air 4D # AU96MR, just has upsized to 90mm. Travelbox # AU36MR also comes with everything necessary for installation. Only difference is that it stays outside and...

  • RV And Overlanding Heater Options For High Altitude Trips With No Generator Or Shore Power
All three models are altitude-ready out of the box. The Air 2D # AU56MR is calibrated for up to 9,800’, while the Air 4D # AU96MR and portable Travelbox # AU36MR both go up to 13,700’ with no tuning or add-ons needed. If you’re regularly around 10k or more, go with the Air 4D or Travelbox. They’ll run cleaner and cycle less often at elevation. What type of vehicle or camper are you using? This will also help determine which kit to use.

  • What’s the best portable heater if I don’t want to install anything permanently in trailer and tent?
Heather, the Travelbox 2.0 # AU36MR is exactly what you need. It’s fully self-contained - battery, fuel tank, and pump are all built-in. Just place it outside your shelter, run the duct inside, and press a button. No tedious install, no wires, no tools. It’s ideal for flexible setups like yours. I think you'll really like this setup! What do you think?

  • Can I run the diesel portable heater Travelbox inside my trailer with a window cracked?
No, I wouldn't recommend it, Greg, nor would Autoterm. The Autoterm Travelbox # AU36MR is built for outdoor use only. It exhausts diesel fumes, and even with ventilation, using it inside a closed space is risky. You’ll want to set it outside and run the included 60mm duct in through a window or vent. It’s quiet and safe when used correctly, just don’t bring it indoors. What type of trailer is this going on? Travel trailer or an enclosed diy trailer?

  • Can I use factory RV ducting with Autoterm diesel heaters?
Great question, Mike. You’ll want to run dedicated ducting for the diesel heater. The Air 4D needs 90mm ducting, and factory ducts are usually too large or sealed, which can cause performance or safety issues. These heaters work best with short, direct runs using Autoterm’s included ducting. We can help you sketch out the airflow layout if you’d like. Everything necessary for installation and setup is included in these kits: -Autoterm Travelbox 2.0 Heater # AU36MR (portable) -Autoterm...

  • Will the Travelbox RV heater work with solar panel 200w setup?
You sure can! The Autoterm Heater Travelbox # AU36MR includes a Victron AGM battery and can charge via 12V DC or 110V AC. As long as your solar controller supports AGM output and you're within voltage range, you're good to go. The battery is compatible with the Victron battery app that allows you to monitor the battery level as you're camping. One thing to note is that the solar setup may need an adapter going to the battery system. This Travelbox has a 110v ac plug that connects to...

  • Portable Heater Options For Roof Top Tent Camping In Winter
Absolutely, Danny. It’s a great match. You’ll just want to run the duct up through the annex or lower tent window using the included insulated 60mm hose. Keep the Travelbox heater # AU36MR outside the vehicle, and direct the exhaust away from sleeping areas. No open flame, no moisture buildup, just dry, reliable heat all night. What have you done in the past to stay warm while winter camping in the roof top tent?

  • Can I use the Travelbox heater to heat an ice fishing shack?
Absolutely, Marty. The Travelbox heater 2.0 # AU36MR is a solid choice for ice shacks. Just set it outside the shelter, run the hot air duct through the wall or a floor vent, and you’ve got clean, dry heat without needing a generator or open flame. Just don’t run it inside the shack, and make sure the exhaust vents safely away from foot traffic. What do you normally do to heat that place? I imagine there's not a lot of options without power, aside from generator and solar use. This box...

  • Is the portable heater Travelbox safe to use around kids while winter camping?
Kristin, the Travelbox # AU36MR is safe when used properly, outside only. It exhausts diesel fumes, so keep it several feet away from the tent and make sure the hot air duct isn't obstructed. The air hose itself stays warm but not dangerously hot. Just be sure it’s placed out of reach of curious hands. How do your kids like traveling in the winter? I imagine I would've complained about being cold, so this heater should help a lot!
