The Yakima EXO modular system keeps your kitchen and gear mounted at the hitch so you can step back and start cooking without unloading bins. The OpenRange chuck box stores cookware, utensils, and supplies in a 90-quart interior with a removable shelf and a drawer for smaller items. The front panel folds down into a prep surface to create a workspace at camp, so you're not digging through bins or trying to prep meals without a dedicated surface. The chuck box locks into the EXO system and removes using the side handles when you want to cook away from the vehicle.

The GearWarrior cargo carrier (Y37VR - sold separately) works with the EXO system to hold coolers, firewood, and larger items that do not fit in the chuck box. It detaches from the EXO system for carrying gear to camp, and an optional wheel kit (Y97VR - sold separately) converts it into a cart.
The hinged base swings away from the vehicle with the system loaded so you don't have to unload gear to grab something from the back of your vehicle, letting you pull in, swing it out, and start setting up camp.
Once extended, the top tier rotates 180 degrees to expose the lower level accessory.
The jack stand supports the system when left in the open position.
The base installs into a 2" hitch receiver using a threaded hitch pin that reduces movement in the receiver. The second tier bolts to the base to create the two level system.
Accessories mount into tracks using cleats and SpeedKnobs. Loosen the knobs, slide the accessory out, position the new one, and tighten to secure it.
This system includes SKS lock cores to secure the base, accessories, and stored gear. The chuck box has its own locking points, and additional cores allow key matching across components.
The EXO system accepts additional accessories that replace either the kitchen or lower level accessory depending on your setup.

Hello neighbor, this is Curt with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Yakima OpenRange Deluxe Camping Kitchen for your EXO Modular System. So one of the things that I find annoying sometimes about camping is organizing all of that different cookware and the prep space and things like that that go along with it. The OpenRange has it all packed into one box that is fit to your EXO Swing. So the cool thing about this is that it's gonna offer us 90 quarts of storage space inside. It's made out of a lightweight thermoplastic, giving it a weight of only about 30 pounds on its own.
The cool thing about that too is that it is a heat resistant, so it's gonna maintain a good temperature inside, and it's extremely weather resistant as well, so you don't have to worry about it, you know, when you're out driving around with it or when you leave it out at the campsite. As long as you got everything closed up, everything inside's gonna stay high and dry. So let's open it up and take a look inside. Now first before I do that, I wanted to point out that we do have metal locks on each of our latches so we can keep everything nice and secure in here. And these are gonna work with Yakima's SKS or same key system, meaning you could swap these lock cores out to be keyed alike to other Yakima accessories you may have.
So if we just pop these open, unlatch it back here and bring it down, we got a nice flat prep surface right here. We've got some good dimensions in here that are gonna hold one of our side tables as well as our grill. We've got a nice utensil tray here that's gonna keep all of our silverware organized, and we've got some extra space on the top. This is gonna be great to fit in things like canned goods, boxes of dry goods and things like that, just to keep it all stored away really nicely. I like to keep paper towels and things up here as well to help with the cleaning.
But there's way more to this than just that. So one of the neat features of this is that it has this kind of organization area here. There's a lot of nice little pockets that we can use if we want to keep our condiments handy or some of our longer utensils like spatulas and things like that. This is going to attach to the top of the box into some pre-designated areas, some holes right here, and it's gonna be nice and ready and available for you right back there behind the chuck box. So it's also gonna come with a lantern post, and that is gonna go in right here, there's a little rubber plug.
I could stick this right through here, and what I can end up doing with that is hanging up a lantern. Now, the lantern is sold separately, so you'd have to provide your own lantern, but you can use this to hang it up and give yourself some light if it's getting dark outside and you're still trying to prep. Now, one of the things I really wish this came with is a second one of these because I could see you maybe needing light on both sides. There is another spot to put another post in right over here. So if you're only gonna stick with the one, you at least have the option of putting it on one side of the chuck box or the other. So we kind of switch things up in here just to kinda show you what we can carry. So we've got a mess kit in here, as you can see. You know, we could probably add a few pots and pans in here, maybe a few more coffee mugs just to kind of fill it all up. But you could see that there's plenty of space up here for that cookware that you might have with you. What I'd recommend though is not bringing anything glass. If you've got metal or plastic wear, that is actually gonna be best because there's not really a good way to completely secure this down. And if you're worried about it rattling around with each other, well truth be told, it's not gonna be much different than if you're carrying everything in a tote anyway. So as far as the dimensions goes, on this top shelf here, this is gonna be 28 inches across by 14 inches deep, by five inches tall. So, you know, whatever you can fit in that space, it's gonna be great. The shelf's not adjustable. So that is pretty much what you have to work with. On our bottom shelf, we've got it at 28 across by 14 inches deep by 7 5/8 inches high. And this is where that silverware tray is going to hang. And as you can see, what we've got in here is our stove top. Now, this particular one by GSI Outdoors fits perfectly in here as well as one of our side tables. So since we've got the side table in here, let's go ahead and break it out and set it up and show you what that's all about. Now, this included bamboo prep table is gonna give you a surface at 27 inches by 13 inches to work with. There is a cutting board here that is gonna fit perfectly into this opening. If you need to do any kind of chopping-up of vegetables or anything like that, maybe trimming some of the meats you're gonna throw on that stove top, or you've got a collapsible sink. And I really like this, this is really handy. But I could just pop this out, I could do it to a very shallow depth like this if I'm just rinsing some things off, or I can give it some depth if maybe I want to, you know, do some dishes in it. But either way, it's got a plug in here and you do get a drain tube as well. And this drain tube attaches really easily. It's got a decent length to it as well. So if you are using it on the EXO Swing, if you've got, you know, whether it's a cargo box or this Cargo Warrior that we have on it here today, this is gonna give you enough length that you could actually clear it and not get any of your cargo wet from the sink. And if you want to use the prep table and just kind of seal it up like this, that's gonna fit on there just fine as well. Now, on the other side of the chuck box, we've got our metal table. And the metal table is gonna give us a surface of 31 inches by 16 inches. It's too big to travel inside the chuck box, unlike our bamboo board, which could, but you do get a really nice bag to carry it with. And if it's something you want to strap down either in the back of the vehicle or in your cargo space down here, maybe on this rack right here is where we had it, it's gonna travel perfectly fine from right there. But what you have on it is going to be a nice little fold-out rack here that you can hang any kinda utensils that you need. There is on all four corners, like our bamboo table, there is a spot to hang your included hook so that if there's anything that you need to use with that, it's gonna be very convenient in that sense as well. But this is the surface where you should put your stove top. It's gonna fit on here perfectly and even give you some spare room like to the side, whether you wanna move it closer or further away from the chuck box, just if there's anything else you want to keep up here with it. But this makes for an excellent overall kitchen setup, as you can see. Now, if you are gonna use it on your EXO system, something that you do have to keep in mind, the legs extend to 42 and 3/4 inches. So depending on your hitch height, you may have to add a few blocks underneath to get those propped up. So if you need to do that, absolutely go right ahead. But just to give you an example, the hitch that we have on here today, if you go from the ground up to the inside of the top inner most part of the hitch, you're at 17 inches. We got about three inches added on here to get these tables level. So with that being said, if you measure the inside of the top of your hitch to 14 inches or less above the ground, you shouldn't need to bring any blocks with you in order to keep it propped up. But the other thing to keep in mind too is this is a little bit higher in the air than I'm generally cooking at. Obviously, this is much higher than a table height. It's even much higher than a counter height. So if you wanted to use this at more of a level, you could easily keep it on your EXO as far as storage and as far as travel goes. But when you get to the campsite, you might wanna have it at a more comfortable level. If that's the case, we have a leg kit that also comes with our whole system today so that we can set it up independently. Now your independent stand is gonna come in its own bag just like this. It's still too big of a bag to fit inside the chuck box, so it is gonna be something you want to kinda strap down or keep with the rest of your cargo. The legs are gonna be separated so that it lays flat, but they're gonna attach the exact same way that the legs on our table's attached. I'll show you how that works right now. So you're gonna have two knobs on here. The knob that's closest to this end, go ahead and loosen that up until you get a good amount of space in between the knob and the leg itself. There is a slotted hole for this to go into, and then all you need to do is twist it down tight. Now, when it comes to the height adjustment, we have three different sets of notches. Each set has three notches that are one inch apart. So we have it set at the very lowest it can go right now. And at this height, we're gonna be right at 20 inches. Now with that being said, 20 inches being the lowest, with these other two notches on this set, we'll be at 21 and 22 inches. But I can move it all the way down to this set to get it even higher. And the way that I'm gonna move it is through this knob here. I'm just gonna loosen it. And as I loosen it, we're able to slide this down and adjust it over to wherever we need. So right now I'm gonna get it adjusted to the lowest of the second set. So at our middle set, at its lowest, we can go to 26 inches, and then 27 inches or 28 inches. Now at our highest set here, at that lowest point on that highest set, we are looking at about 32 1/2 inches off the ground. So we could figure on 33 1/2, 34 1/2 at its absolute complete highest. But I'm gonna leave it right where it's at because I think that by the time I get the box on here, I think the tables and everything are gonna be at the perfect height for me. So what I wanna do is I wanna move my stand to where I'm gonna be doing my cooking, leave it right there, and at this point, I'm gonna go ahead and take my chuck box and move it onto there. Now, when you do this though, keep in mind the box itself weighs 30 pounds. So whatever you have in it, add it to that 30 pounds, especially if you're taking it from a height like this, can be a little tough. So make sure you grab a friend to get you helped out. But we'll end up starting by loosening up our grips from the EXO so that we can get our box released, and at that point, we're gonna move it on top of our stand. Now, in your stand kit, you're gonna have these two knobs and you're gonna have a place to thread 'em through right here on the back of the chuck box. So what you're gonna want to do is go ahead and get those in and thread 'em all the way down nice and tight. Now, there is a cavity underneath the box. It really just kind of fits perfectly on our stand. The reason that you wanna make sure that we secure it to the stand is because with the door open, if you're prepping, if you put even a little bit of weight on it, there's a good chance that this whole thing could tip forward. So securing it to the stand is a must. Now, for me, on the stand at this height, this is a lot more manageable than it was on the setup that we had today on the EXO, just because of where everything's at and I'm not having to reach too far for any of my extra supplies up here. I could look down on everything and, you know, I just feel a lot safer and more comfortable with the prep work and with the cooking, not having it up towards my face. And on top of all that, with the legs being adjustable independently each leg, a lot of campgrounds are pretty uneven. So you have the opportunity to kind of even it out a little bit too. Now, this box doesn't have to be used to store the kitchen equipment and things like that if you don't want it to. This box makes for great lockable dry storage. You can actually, while you can't adjust the height of this shelf, you can actually remove it completely. There are a couple of sets of screws on each side that'll allow you to take it out completely and use it for that dry storage. So for me, if I've got some food items that I can't really keep in the cooler or it won't fit in the cooler, or I, you know, it's in a cardboard box or something and I don't want it getting wet and soaking through and ruining the food, I can put that stuff in here, close it up, lock it up, and it's gonna keep all those nighttime critters outta my food stuffs. And finally, it wouldn't be a Yakima item without a trusty included bottle opener because of course, Yakima is always looking ahead and wants to make sure that any camp experience we have is the best it can possibly be. Now overall, I don't know if the OpenRange is the right thing for just the casual camper, the person that goes out maybe a couple of times a year. But if you are somebody who's an avid camper and you're going out every weekend or even every other weekend, or you're really into overlanding, I think this is an excellent piece to pick up, particularly when you pair it with the swing-away there. This option, as far as having all of this, the tables to go with it, the prep sink, the storage inside that can fit a lot of those camping stoves out there and the fact that it is a good lockable dry storage for your overnights, all of those things to me add a lot of value to this particular kitchen setup.
