What's up everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Curt Trailer Ball. So this one's gonna be 2 5/16". So you want to make sure you match it up with your coupler. Typically on the top of the coupler, we're gonna have a couple numbers, and that'll kind of tell you that if it's an older coupler, you just want to make sure that it is the right size before you purchase. This one is gonna have a capacity of 10,000 pounds.
So you want to match it up with the right equipment. So make sure that the ball mount's gonna be at least 10,000 pounds. And of course, make sure that your vehicle and your hitch can handle that as well. Whenever you're picking a ball mount, you want to make sure that the diameter of the hole is gonna be 1 1/4" in diameter. I don't want anything bigger because there's gonna be too much slop.
And of course, anything smaller isn't gonna fit. So we want to make sure it's nice and tight. And that is the size we want to kind of go for. The shank is about 2 5/8" long so it's gonna work with ball mounts that have 1/2" to 1" thick. So this one right here is on the heavier side, but it's still within those bounds, so we're good to go.
It does have a chrome plating around the whole entire ball. If you want to put some grease on it, you can. That will kind of help limit the amount of wear you're gonna have, but it's inevitable, it's gonna happen. If you do want to upgrade, 'cause trailer balls are pretty much the same, you just need to get the right size and the right capacity. But if you we're to upgrade, you can get one that's made of stainless steel.
It's all machined out of one piece, that's gonna hold up against the elements a little bit better, but also there are some other ones as well that has had coatings on them and such. Chrome looks good now, but eventually it will wear away and not really look the best. So, just kind of take that into consideration, but that's pretty much with any ball. There isn't a whole lot to this, and that's pretty much it for our look at the Curt Trailer Hitch Ball..

After one year the hitch ball looks as new. Installation and the proper torque specs are the keys to longevity with no issues. I'm very happy!
The hitch and ball are replacements for 35 year old unit. Things have changed! Well built with lots of adjustment. Will be using soon to tow a 25 foot travel trailer.
