The 3/4" thick jaw on the Patriot is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Patriot has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.
Non-Binding Latch Handle
The dual jaw on the Patriot is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.
The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".
Easily Adjustable Design
The B&W Patriot can be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.
To adjust either the height of the Patriot or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base. The above diagram gives an indication of where to mount the arms so that you get the height and the cab clearance that you need.

Installation was cake for me because this truck had the brackets that bolted to the frame already from the previous owner. I still had to drill holes in the bed but everything went smoothly. Take note- use a punch before drilling the pilot hole. My bits were older and liked to walk so keeping the rails at 22” was a little difficult. The manual instructed I cut away sections of my bed mat for structural durability no biggie. Came packaged pretty well, some spare hardware and brackets in my specific installation. So far this has been a great hitch. Takes up a lot less space than the massive auto slider hitch that I had previously, and have had no problem with any sharp turns so far. It is also much easier to handle by myself taking it out of the truck. The only thing I’ve had some problems with is getting the handle lock pin out once I’m ready to disconnect. To solve, I’ve started wedging the flat part of my crowbar under the head of the pin and tapping it with a rubber mallet from underneath.1485356

This hitch is amazing. I replaced an older Reese hitch. With my old hitch there was constant shucking and could feel the trailer pushing the truck while stopping. There is no more shucking and you can “barely tell” there’s a trailer behind me anymore. The coupling and uncoupling with the cam action lever is extremely simple!

I did my research on this hitch and was convinced it was the one I wanted yet I still felt the need to get some input from the pros, 2 phone calls (one to E-trailer and one to B&W) and I came away with peace of mind that the B&W was the right one for me. Best of all they did not try to up sell me to the 22k hitch two rv dealers tried to tell me I would need to safely pull the 16,500 gvwr 5th wheel I was in the process of buying. The hitch was reasonably priced, arrived in a timely manner in good condition and installation was straight forward. Bottom line I couldn’t be happier with my B&W hitch but most of all my decision to buy it from etrailer610624
We received the hitch and brackets packaged very well. The installation went well and pretty straight forward. We did not have our 5th wheel to set the height but took a lucky guess at 18". We picked the RV up and couldn't be happier with this hitch. Absolutely no chucking, very smooth ride. We have an uneven slope to back down to get to our RV pad and were concerned about that. With the swivel on this hitch, backed with no problem. We wouldn't settle for any other hitch if we have to ever buy another one. The RV sales and service people were very impressed with this hitch and the way it is set up with the frame brackets.
I have always had bumper pull RVs. This is my first 5th wheel and 5th wheel hitch. It took approx 5-1/2 hrs to install the rails, hitch, and 7-way extension on a '17 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel with Ramboxs. I love the construction and the "feel" of the hitch. Directions were easy to follow. I get the trailer in a couple days, so no comment on towing, but I am not anticipating any complications. Looking forward to using this hitch for years to come.1691666

That is an excellent question and I agree that sometimes terms like this can be a bit confusing.
Even though the king pin does connect to the jaws of the 5th wheel hitch, when you take your measurements it is much easier to go from the ground to the top of the 5th wheel hitch and then from the ground to the plate of the pin box (where the king pin connects to the box) which rests on the top of the 5th wheel hitch.

Typically when someone is wanting to use an rail style hitch when there's a gooseneck hitch already in place they can simply use an adapter like # 16310. Unfortunately in your case the PullRite SuperGlide isn't going to be compatible with an adapter since it has a flat base and doesn't arch up to clear the middle supports of the adapter.

Hello Avis. When installing fifth wheel rails in the bed of a 1996 Ram short bed, the rails will be installed so that the fifth wheel hitch head is centered over the rear axle. When installing a base rail kit for 5th wheel towing there are specific places the brackets need to go, which can be found in the installation instructions. If you don't already have base rails I recommend checking out the following:
- Universal # BWRVR3200
- Custom # C16419-204
The universal rails are less expensive but they do require drilling into your vehicle frame, whereas the custom brackets bolt right up to existing holes so the installation is much less labor intensive. view full answer...

The B&W Turnoverball gooseneck is not compatible with any 5th wheel rails, including the B&W Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWRVR3200.
Since you need to use a PullRite sliding 5th wheel hitch that mounts to industry-standard rails you'd have to remove the Turnoverball and install the rails. view full answer...
As long as your Pullrite Superglide hitch is part of the ISR series, not all 2700 series are so you will need to verify, then the B&W Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10 Bolt
