Is a wedge needed for the patriot 18 k hitch on a GD turning point hitch ?

Yes, you will need to use the Wedge Block # LC79UD for the Lippert Turning Point pin box on your Grand Design 5th wheel RV camper. This is a universal block that will fit into the funnel on the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3255 and prevent the pin box from pivoting on the king pin. Instead the pivot point will be back where the pin box mounts to the 5th wheel mounting plate. Do be sure remove the lock out bolts on the pin box before driving with the wedge installed.
