Video Transcript for Review of Q Hitch 5th Wheel Hitch - Hitch Head - C16565

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, I'm gonna take a look at this replacement head unit for the Q Hitch fifth-wheel trailer hitches. Has a 25,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this will replace just the head unit on your Q Hitch or your Curt Q25 fifth-wheel trailer hitch. Now, it does use a two-jaw locking system right here, which provides a 360-degree jaw-to-king pin contact.

'Cause of that, it'll give you less rattle and more security than the slide bar models. And also, they use a nice unique spherical axial bearing on this, which allows easy pivoting of the hitch head. It'll give you a smooth, 360-degree movement, not just the front-to-back or side-to-side tilting. And it does also offer built-in cushioning to absorb any road shock. Now for maintenance, they make it pretty easy 'cause they do include three built-in grease zerk fittings for easy lubrication of the jaws and that bearing.

Right up here is a zerk fitting, and then one over here, and then one right over here. All you have to do is attach your grease pin to it and pump grease in there. Now the handle on this, it's a short throw, single-handle operation, so it does allow you to open the dual jaws for connecting to the king pin. It does include this pin and clip, which will keep the handle in the close position. And when you take the pin and clip out, you can see that it's tethered so you don't lose it.

And actually, the hole, there's a little lever there that drops in place. And if you put a padlock through there, you could actually. Using a padlock through there, you could actually secure that so nobody could access it. Now the padlock, we do sell separately on our website. But once you remove the pin and clip, what you'll do is flip up that lever, that'll release that handle.

And then you'll notice you can just take your handle, and as you pull it out far enough, you can see how the jaws open and you're ready to go. (clears throat) Now, this does have. It ensures secure towing because it uses a unique three-point, color-coded lock indicator system. Just by looking at the color indicator on either the handle or underneath the hitch head, you'll be able to tell what position the jaws are in. 'Cause if you're sitting up here in the cab and you turn around, you'll be able to look down. You won't be able to see the jaws, but you'll see those colors. So right now, you noticed I opened the jaws, so they're ready. So, if I spin this around so you can see the indicator we're talking about right here, it's showing yellow. Yellow means the jaws are open, you're ready to couple. There's also an indicator down here. It's pretty hard to see under the hitching, but there is another one. This one's probably the easiest to see. Now, if it shows green, that'll mean the jaws are locked close, you're ready to tow. And if it happens to show red, red means the jaws are locked open, you can pull away to uncouple. And as we mentioned, these are visible from the cab of your truck. Now, if you notice on the side, it has three rows of holes, and that's for a four-inch hitch height adjustment. 'Cause whenever you tow, you wanna make sure you're as level as possible. So by using the included hardware here, when you bolt this to the legs, you want to put it in the correct position for your application. Now, this is constructed of sturdy steel, has a durable carbide powder coat finish on it. Does also include this plastic lube plate and what this lube plate does is you install this on your king pin and that'll allow when you're hooking up, that that king pin can glide smoothly onto the hitch during the hookup, and it also stays there to prevent any messy grease buildup. And as we mentioned, comes with the mounting hardware, even comes with a nice set of installation instructions, how it all goes together and works. (clears throat) Now again, the gross towing weight capacity is 25,000 pounds, but the capacity will be limited to your lowest-rated towing component. Vertical load limit of 6,250 pounds. And the last thing I wanna show you with the jaws open, we're just gonna show you how they go around the king pin. I happen to have an example of what a king pin would be like on your fifth wheel. So, when you're hooking up and this slides in between the jaws, you can see once you get far enough that those jaws completely lock around, and you'll notice that handle pops into place and it's now secure. And again, I'm gonna turn this around to show you, it's gonna be showing green. Green here and green right here, which we've mentioned it means it's locked close, you're ready to tow. And then, all you have to do is just flip this latch over, take your pin and clip, run it through all of them, and it's locked into place, you're ready. (clears throat) But that's gonna do it for a look at this replacement head unit for your Q Hitch fifth-wheel trailer hitches.

Replacement head unit fits Q Hitch and Curt Q25 fifth-wheel trailer hitches.

The hitch works like a Champ. The box it was delivered in had seen better days but the hitch was fine.
I would recommend.

by:

Package was shipped quickly and arrived on time.
Box came in damaged but that's not etrailer' fault
We'll see if any parts are missing when we install it.

We started having trouble unhitching or fifth wheel from our truck and after our last trip the hitch would not release, after about two hours of trying I had to pull the two pins that hold the head in place and used my fifth wheel to lift the head up so I could pull my truck out. The next day I finally got the hitch to unlatch, I looked over the hitch and discovered one of the bushings was broken. I called etrailer and they gave me the phone number to Curt hitches, I called and spoke to the rudest person, I tried to explain what was wrong with the hitch and he would cut me off. He finally told me he would send me the replacement part but I would have to tear down the hitch head and fix it myself, I told him that wasn’t acceptable I wanted a new hitch head, then he changed lanes again and this time he said I broke the hitch and Curt wasn’t going to make it good, the hitch was only a few months old. I called etrailer back and told them what the man at Curt told me and the lady I was talking to said Curt might not make it good but etrailer would, and they did 4 days later I received a new hitch head. I will never buy anything from Curt again but I will continue to purchase items from etrailer they stand behind what they sell.

Exactly what I was expecting. Fast shipping. Hooked right into the truck.

by:

Great product, great service doing business with Quinn, Etrailer sales rep.

by:

Replacement head was delivered on time and fixed my problem.

by:

So far the equipment is perfect. The boxes it came in were pretty messed but they are a heavy product so I would expect some damage to the box. I would have expected a bit more of a box for such a heavy item. I received them 2 separate days and this came down to how it was being moved on the label. Ups was unable to read it and had to reprocess the label and deliver the second half to me 2 days later.

by:

Good sturdy system. Once it is installed, easy to use.
Installation can be involved.

by:

Don't know I still have not received the entire hitch. not very happy!

Yes, the there is a replacement handle for a Curt Q24/Q25 5th Wheel Hitch and for this you'll need the Replacement Operating Handle for Curt Q-Series 5th Wheel Hitches part # C55UR. I spoke with Curt about the Curt Q25 5th Wheel Hitch and was informed that they do not offer the locking jaw mechanism as a replacement part. I know this is not what you wanted to hear but the fact remains. That said, if you want you can replace just the head and center section with the Replacement Head Unit for Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16565 but this would be a good time to upgrade to the Replacement Head Unit for Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16580. It sounds to me like the jaws on your Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 25,000lbs Item # C16265 need to be greased or that you may have backed into the king pin with the jaws not locked in the coupling position and could have damaged the jaws. • Can I Swap a Mopar M20 5th Wheel Hitch Head with a Curt Q25 Hitch Head
Yes. You can swap out your Mopar M20 series hitch head with a Curt Q series head like the Replacement Head Unit for Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 25,000 lbs # C16565 and it will work just fine. The difference between the Curt Q20 (Mopar M20) and Q25 is the jaw strength and head plate are designed for higher weight trailers, but most of the internal components are the same including the bushings. However, a stronger head should take a little bit of stress off some of the components...
