Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

by:
2006 Ford Escape

I installed it as shown in the video and enclosed instructions without problems and it worked

by:

Connecting the harness to the taillights was very easy. Running the wire through the car to the battery was a little more challenging, but overall I am very pleased with the price, customer service, and prompt delivery. Thank You.

by:

Awesome service. Fast shipping-the video on the websit was worth the price I paid for the harness alone. It greatly helped in the installation. I will be back to buy again!!

by:

Very easy to install. Not to many thing at this point seam to work as advertised - This one does. I am please with it and the ease of installation.

by:

Product works well! instructions were really good! I wish the video online would show a slower and more in depth process of where in the engine compartment to put the wire, like it says ato watch for i was worried about anything hot or moving touching it, i hope i did it right! But overall great product, more pictures in the instructions may help too. but it only took me around 45 minutes to get it all together!
Thanks for fast shipping also!

Bryant

Found product quickly on website; video of installation extremely helpful (wish all companies did this!); order process was easy; delivery well within expected promise. I've shopped here before, and will shop here again. Thanks for great customer service!!!

by:

Everything installed as per instructions, The only thing I did different is I ran the 4 plug wire up thought a rubber boot on the driver’s side as to keep the 4 wire plug dry and form corrosion. and if I need to hook up to a trailer It is just under the carpet.

by:
2005 Ford Escape

Great product, great instructional video, installed by my self in under 30 minutes. My power wire routing may have been easier as it is a hybrid and I could just follow the conduits running from the battery pack to the engine compartment.

by:

I was impressed by your detailed videos, wowed by the follow up "after placing the order", and amazed by how easy it was to mount the hitch. The detailed videos really prepare you.
Kudos and Five Star rating!

Installation was a breeze. The instructional video on the E-Trailer website was an excellent resource! The quality of the unit is very good. Everything is in the kit to make the job complete! I will recommend this company to other people.

by:
2005 Mazda Tribute

Everything went together smoothly without issue. There were some parts in the kit that didn't work so well, like the connectors. I ended up just twisting the wires together and taping them. Also, you need to fish a power wire from your battery. That's not obvious on in the description.

by:

This unit installed easily. I watched the video for the installation and had no difficulty. It works fine as far as I can tell. The hardest part was getting the connectors apart in the 30 degree temperature at the time I put it in. All required materials were provided. I was not comfortable with the Ground wire screw and so I put in an identical, one size larger, screw which holds the wire tighter to the body sheet metal.

2005 Ford Escape

I purchased a box hitch and wiring for my Ford Escape.
I did not install it but it went in without any problems and looks great.
I have used it for the last year without any problems at all.
The adapter slides in and out with ease so I can easily stow it away when not in use.
The extra cover on the end of the electrical plug is a nice touch.
I am 61 and this helps me enjoy my fishing boat that much more.

by:
2007 Ford Escape

Great directions I have no mechanical ability and between the online videos/ paper directions I installed the trailer hitch and wiring. The huge positive being both work and I was quoted twice the price to have it done at different shops. Now I can take my recently purchased boat to the lake!!!

by:
2005 Ford Escape

Quality products. Easy install. Good directions in the video.

by:
2005 Ford Escape

Perfectly works on my 2005 Ford Escape. Easy instructions. Everything included in package. Price is reasonable to compare with (other sites)

I installed this item myself all at the same time watching and pausing the video! No Problem. Product was sent on time in good condition, and I would order again! I would make a couple of recommendations that would make installation a little easier: 1) better wire connectors 2) better wire ties

So far so good! Would order again! I could have never done it without the video!

  • Trailer Turn Signals Both Blink at the Same Time When Right or Left Turn Signal is Turned On
If both turn signals blinking at the same time is a new problem that has occurred after the harness had worked fine before, there are a couple of possibilities that may be causing the issue. First, the easiest thing to check are the trailer connectors. You will be looking for any dirt or corrosion build up in one or both connectors (vehicle and trailer side). Clean them out if you find any dirt/corrosion and see if that helps. If you still have the problem, disconnect the trailer to test...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2006 Mazda Tribute That Doesn't Require Finding Relay Location
While I have a much easier trailer wiring solution than the # 40455 that you referenced for your 2006 Mazda Tribute there is a good chance you'd have to have a relay installed behind the dash board of your vehicle to have the circuits active for this kit to work. Since most of our customers have come back and stated that finding the relay was a headache the much better option is to go with a harness that installs by plugging inline with the taillight circuits of the vehicle. • Repeat Malfunctions with a T-One Harness for a 2007 Ford Escape
It is possible, though very remote, that you had two faulty units. However, having two units back to back that die that quickly leads me to believe something is going on with the trailer lighting and wiring. I wonder if your trailer is demanding more power than the Modu-Lite can provide and is burning up the boxes and causing malfunctions. First check to make sure the fuse in the fuse-holder is still good. How many lights are on the trailer? Side markers and tail/turn/brake lights? Check...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring on 2004 Chevy Silverado Where Taillights Work Incorrectly
You have some wiring shorts that need to be cleaned up. It sounds like your best option is to go over all of the trailer wiring on the truck. I'd suspect that if you inspected the back of the trailer wiring connector you'd see quite a bit of exposed wire shorting out to each other. Cleaning all of that up will most likely take care of the issues. It is most likely time for a new 7-way connector with the part # PK11893 as yours may be in need of replacing if it looks damaged.

There is a possibility that your trailer light converter has gone bad. Testing it is pretty easy. What you will want to do is test the wires going into the box of the converter box for voltage with a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to see if there is voltage going into the box when the taillight functions of your vehicle are applied, and then test the output side of the box to see if the current is making it through the converter. Unfortunately a trailer wiring converter module like # 118426 can go bad at any time without any notice. It is rare, but can happen. The module has a circuit board that will work great until it doesn't and if that goes, it can do some odd things like what you are experiencing. If you test the wires going into the control module and there is no issue, then you have function issues after the converter, it is safe to determine the converter module is bad and needs replaced.
