What Causes Trailer Wiring Harnesses to Short Out
Published 04/23/2015 >
Question:
I INSTALLED THIS HARNESS IN THE SUMMER AND AFTER THE WINTER THE LEFT BRAKE LIGHT WASNT COMEING THROUGH THE CONVERTOR, SO I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER HARNESS. I HAVE LED LIGHTS ON MY TRAILER WITH ALL NEW WIREING AND IT WORKS FINE ON MY BROTHER-IN-LAWS NEW FORD TRUCK. IT WORKED FINE ALL LAST SUMMER BUT I HAVENT TRIED IT YET THIS YEAR. HOPE THIS WORKS OK THIS YEAR AS IT GETS EXPENSIVE, I DIDNT KNOW THIS HELP POST EXISTED LAST YEAR.

Most likely your old harness shorted due to a short on the trailer wiring and that is why it got damaged and needed to be replaced. Since you replaced the wiring of your trailer you should be good now.
Sorry to hear about the problems you had with your trailer wiring, but the good news is the converter box did it's job. It is supposed to short out and act as a fuse in the event of a short on the trailer wiring to prevent the short from damaging your vehicle wiring.
