Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side tail light. You will have to remove the tail light assembly to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in the jack storage compartment of your trunk.

Alternate Wiring Route

You can also route the wiring in the manner shown above to stow the 4-way flat connector beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure if you are mounting it near the hitch.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

  • Both Trailer Turn Signals Blink at the Same Time
This is normally related to a bad ground connection somewhere. Make sure the main trailer connector ground and the grounds for each of the lights are all connected to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. Also make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion. If you are using a 4-Way harness then these are the most common issues. If you have a 4-Way but it has 5 wires coming out then this is a wishbone harness and it will have the running...

  • Why Do Some Vehicles Need a Converter to Add Trailer Wiring Like a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country
Converters are required when a vehicle has what is called a 3-wire or separate lighting system. These systems will have turn signal circuits that are separate from the brake light circuits. Trailers use a 2-wire or combined system meaning the brake lights and turn signals are on the same circuit. A converter is needed to take the separate signals from the vehicle and combine them so that the trailer lights operating on a combined system will work properly. Wires and fuses connected directly...

  • No Power To Running Light Pin On Vehicle Trailer Connector
It sounds like you are having an issue with the running lights on your trailer. If that is the case then since you have tested the trailer connector and found that power is not reaching this, you either have a blown fuse, bad converter, or shorted wire. I didn't catch what vehicle you have nor what trailer wring harness you are using but if it is a factory harness then most likely you just have a blown fuse. I know you said you checked the fuse but the vehicle's tail lights and trailer's...

There are multiple circuits relating to trailer lights. The cover of the power box in the engine compartment may also provide details on the appropriate fuses for each of the circuits. • Troubleshooting Why Left Turn Signal Will Not Work On Boat Trailer
I would first check the bulb of the left tail light and make sure that the socket is not corroded or damaged. You would then have to trace the wire for the fixture looking for any pinched or broken wires. I would also recommended looking for cracked or worn down wires that would allow the copper conductor to come into contact with any metal on your trailer. To make the process easier you could use The Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993 and start tracing the circuit from the trailer connector,...

  • Could Black Wire of Trailer Wiring be the Ground Wire
Most likely that black wire is the ground since it's the only circuit not accounted for and is thicker than the other wires. It's not uncommon for trailer wiring to not be the standard colors. I attached a trailer wiring diagram for you to check out as well.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Harness on 1999 Jeep Cherokee
If you have tested the 4-pole connector on the # 118376 and found that you have voltage at the running light pin but not at the right turn/brake and left turn/brake pin, you will need to troubleshoot the converter box. Have a helper sit in the drivers seat so they can activate the various lighting functions. Test each function on the input side of the converter box. With the right turn signal activated, you should show voltage on the green wire entering the box. The same goes with the...

There is one 20A fuse and one relay in the engine compartment fuse block for the trailer running lamps. The relay is in location # 6, and the 20A fuse is in location # 67. Try swapping an adjacent relay into the # 6 location, to see if that makes a difference. Then, check the fuse in # 67. If it's blown, replace it but before you plug a trailer back in, you'll need to find out why the fuse blew. Examine the trailer connector on the truck, looking for green or white corrosion on the pins,...

Since the tail lights on your trailer do not work when the trailer is plugged into your 2013 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4WD you likely have a blown or missing fuse(s). I recommend checking that the fuse 73 is installed and isn't blown. This fuse controls the trailer turn signals and brake lights. If your running lights are not working then check that fuse 67 is installed and isn't blown. If both of the fuses check out then I recommend checking that the trailer connector on your truck does not...

It sounds like you have a bad ground connection. A weak ground can allow some lights to function but may not pass enough current for additional functions like your brake lights. • Plugged Trailer In, there Was a Spark, Now Trailer Lights Will Not Work
It sounds like there is a short somewhere in the trailer wiring and when it was plugged into the new trailer connector it blew the converter box, which protects the vehicle wiring from this exact situation. You can test to see if this is the problem. First, you will need a circuit tester such as # PTW2993. You will test the wires going into the converter box from the vehicle while someone sits in the vehicle and operates the lights one at a time. If the signals going into the box work,...

  • Blown Fuse & Relay with New Utility Trailer Running Lights
One possibility is that the running lights on the new trailer are simply drawing too much current and are blowing the fuses. Trailers can be equipped with either high-efficiency LED lights or standard incandescent bulbs, which draw about 10 times the power. If the new trailer has many more running lights than the boat trailer, and/or if they are incandescent types, then they may be overloading the vehicle wiring. It is also possible that the running light wiring is pinched, has a bare...

That is an interesting problem you are experiencing. First thing you want to do is test the 4-way that is installed on the 2004 Xterra for voltage on the correct pins with a circuit tester like # 3808 like the video I attached. If the 4-way test fine then the problem is somewhere in the wiring of your trailer. Make sure to test with the running lights on and off to be sure. If it is not working correctly, you will most likely have to replace the taillight converter. T-One harnesses are almost impossible to wire incorrectly, so I would say it is most likely somewhere in the trailer wiring. Whichever side, driver or passenger, is having trouble, start at that tail light and work your way towards the vehicle. If the light has a ground wire, make sure it has a good clean ground connection, and make sure it is touching metal and not paint. Some lights are grounded by the bolts or screws that attach the light to the frame, so make sure those are clean...

  • Why Does Trailer Wiring for 2001 Dodge Caravan Require Converter Box
The reason your 2001 Dodge Caravan needs a taillight converter is because it has it's stop light circuit and blinker circuit on separate wires whereas standard trailer wiring has these two circuits combined. So this harness # 118376 combines the circuits like needed and also installs easily on your vehicle since it plugs inline with the factory vehicle wiring.

If you use LCD Digital Circuit Tester part # PTW2992 you can test for this. For trailer wiring you then would want the part # 118376. I attached an install video for this as well. For a ball mount you would want the part # 36071, with hitch balls # 19258 for a 2 inch ball or # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball.
