Pro Tip: Before you invest in a weight distribution hitch, make sure your cargo is evenly loaded in your trailer to keep the weight balanced. If you still have a hard time even after balancing your tongue weight, a weight distribution hitch should help.
When you turn a corner in a car and let go of the steering wheel, the wheel automatically corrects itself and returns to center. The same technology used to keep your vehicle centered on the road is what the TrackPro uses to prevent trailer sway before it even starts, no matter if it's caused by high winds or sharp turns. Pointing toward the rear of your trailer, there's a positive caster angle built into the hitch. It works in tandem with the tapered spring bars to create a self-centering force that keeps your trailer consistently centered behind your tow vehicle.
This positive caster creates another benefit - an easier installation. Since the required pitch is alredy pre-set, there's no need to fine-tune it using hard-to-access washers or a difficult-to-use thumbscrew. The only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper height.
If you need an option built with American-made steel that will hold your trailer in line while providing sway control, the Blue Ox TrackPro might be just what you're after. In addition to the pre-set pitch described earlier, the TrackPro creates a rigid system that holds your trailer in line behind your vehicle, helping keep your trailer from getting off track. And it uses friction to force your trailer back in line if a strong crosswind or passing truck is a bit too much for the rigid hold to handle on its own.
Because the steel-on-steel friction of the bars and L-brackets is noisy, don't be alarmed if you hear some banging, creaking, and grinding. It's just the system working to correct sway.
Fun Fact: Steel-on-steel friction is what locomotives use to keep multi-ton railcars from swaying.
Your tongue weight is the first thing you need to know when figuring out which weight distribution system you need. Most people think that if they get the highest-rated system possible, it'll be smooth sailing. But actually, this will create a rigid ride and a bouncing trailer. On the other hand, if the system isn't strong enough, it won't be able to distribute the weight properly, making it virtually useless.
Once you know your trailer's tongue weight, add it to the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Then just choose a weight distribution system rated for that combined tongue weight.

Hi, Steven here with etrailer.com. Today let's take a look at our Blue Ox TrackPro weight distribution with sway control, 11-hole shank, rated for 8,000 pounds towing capacity, and 800 pounds tongue weight. So if you're not familiar, basically, weight distribution system's gonna help keep your ride level and stable when you're towing by evenly distributing the weight over your axles of the tow vehicle or the trailer. The system's gonna help you maintain better control of your vehicle and avoid your trailer sag, excessive tire wear, that kind of stuff. This particular brand Blue Ox has a built-in sway control, so that's gonna limit your side to side movement or fish tailing, that kind of stuff. Maybe a strong wind pops up, side wind that semi passes you and just gives you that sudden burst of air, that's gonna help keep you straight and on the right path.
Let's zoom in here and take a look at the shank. So the shank itself is made for a 2-inch by 2-inch trailer hitch receiver. You wanna make sure that your receiver is rated for use with weight distribution systems. Most are, but not all of 'em. So check your manufacturer on your hitch and make sure it's rated for that.
Possibly the manufacturer sticker on the hitch may mention that as well, but not always. This particular unit has a 2 5/16-inch ball. It's gonna have a drop of 3 inches maximum, and if you flip this shank over and put the head back on, you would've a maximum rise of 17 inches total. Now as far as what comes with it, comes with everything you see here. It's got the hitch pin clips, it's got your spring bar, retaining clips, pins, everything.
One thing to put out here, there's a greaser back in there. I don't know if you can see it too good with the shadows, but you wanna make sure you grease this up every so often. Keep these pivoting nice and smooth. Keeps all the debris and stuff out of there as well. Now as far as the system overall, like I said, it comes with your spring bars, your mounting brackets for your frames and everything, comes with two of these D-rings or whatever you wanna call 'em, set of instructions.
And it's gonna come with this spring bar tool. So very important when you're loading this up, you're gonna have these mounted on your trailer frame, obviously. You're gonna have your tongue on the trailer frame. Maybe you don't have all the weight quiet on there to kind of help hold it in place and everything, so your jacks kind of help support and everything still. You'll put this bar under the spring bar, you put the lip over the frame of the trailer, and you'll simply just kind of pivot it up and onto that L bracket. So that's what that tool's gonna be used for. Very helpful. Make sure you're using that tool, not trying to manhandle it. Now as far as where you wanna mount these brackets. You can measure from the center of your ball, either on the top or the side, down the length of both sides of your frame. It's usually an A-frame shape. And in this particular unit, you're gonna measure back, and you wanna mount these brackets between 20 to 25 inches from that ball. So very important, keep that inside that 5 inch, that 20 to 25, that five inch variance. Don't try to go farther or closer. That's gonna mess up the system. It's not gonna work, it won't be safe. Please keep it safe. These are under a lot of tension and spring tension. It is a nice black powder coat. Again, it's heavy duty steel. The bars are spring bar material. It's powder coated. It's gonna be corrosion resistant. Again, made here in the USA. Blue Ox has a really nice limited lifetime warranty. You can swap out these spring bars if you need to. So let's say you bought a different size rated trailer, camper, whatnot, and now you need to go to maybe a heavier tongue weight or something like that, you can always purchase separate bars that are sold separately, that are a higher weight rating, to get you in that tongue weight rating that you need to be. So again, this one, the tongue weight rating is between 6 and 800 pounds, and the overall towing capacity is 8,000 pounds. Well, that's gonna do it for our look today at the Blue Ox TrackPro weight distribution with sway control, 11-inch hole shank, 8,000 pounds towing capacity, 800 pounds max tongue weight. I'm Steven, have a great day.
