If you're looking to carry some cargo, maybe a roof box or even some kayaks on top of your Buick, well, today, we're taking a look at the Yakima SkyLine FX system here on our 2022 Buick Enclave. Now, with this specific roof rack with very flush design, this is ideal if you're looking for something that's very sleek, very low-profile, but also gives you that base to carry extra cargo. Let's go take a look at some of these features to see if this is the right fit for you and your adventures. This is gonna be a full kit available here at etrailer designed specifically for your Buick. This fits into the flush rails of your car. That's gonna be the shiny rails to the side.
You're gonna get two crossbars, a really good base that actually bolts into those rails (hand tapping) to give you that good weight capacity. With there being a lot of different roof rack options, even within the same brand, this is specifically the SkyLine FX. The FX is the flush design here that gives almost a factory look to it. The SkyLine series is this style here where you can actually remove your crossbar super easily. So, you take off the end cap, you just unlock it with a flathead screwdriver, you lift this up and then out, and then you can then lift your crossbars out of the way and even cap them off with a landing pad.
So, if you're the type of person that doesn't always want to have their roof rack on, this is how you'll do it. You can keep these landing pads in place. And then, when you're ready to carry a roof rack again, maybe you wanna carry that roof box for that long road trip, you just pop this back into place, lock it all down, and suddenly, you've got this base system again. I, personally, not the biggest fan of the sleek style because I usually like a longer crossbar, but I totally understand why people like the FX. Now, when it comes to loading things up on your roof, if you're really only carrying a roof box, this is gonna work great for that.
You're gonna get a usable crossbar spread of around 33 1/2" here in the front, which is gonna be a little bit different from the back. The back is, from inside the tower to inside the tower, 32 3/4" of usable crossbar space. That's the amount of space you have to clamp your accessories around. Again, great for a roof box, a roof basket. You can even potentially carry up to two kayaks with this system.
This is mounted to fixed points on your flush rails, so you don't really get to adjust back and forth for a different crossbar spread. Where is it mounted Well, if you we inchesre to measure center to center, you would get 27 1/2", which is a pretty good number and will fit most types of accessories. Now, for your longer items, like your canoes or your really large roof boxes, double-check the crossbar spread specified. We have those numbers on our product pages to help you out with making sure everything fits. While I keep referring to this crossbar system as sleek, in all reality, it has a good amount of clearance for those things that clamp around. If you we inchesre to measure from the top of the roof to underneath the bar, I currently have it at around 3 1/2". That's plenty of space for all types of different clamps. As for where your cargo sits on this roof rack, well, from the top of the roof to the top of the crossbars, that's now 4 1/2", which is a good amount of height. This is helpful if you're carrying, let's say, skis with hull bindings. You make sure that those bindings won't scratch up your roof. If you do find that they might sit a little close, you can always take a look at some of our different accessories that give you that extra height. Key thing here, though. If you are carrying a roof box or you're carrying a bike or a kayak, that's gonna be a lot of extra height added to the top of your roof. So, add the height of your roof rack plus the height of your accessories, and make sure you know that number before you go out your low garage door or underneath a low bridge. So, why aren't flush roof racks my first choice This right here is purely the reason. If you're on the shorter side, then reaching up to your roof rack without having to get into your car can be a little tricky. I personally prefer the SkyLine roof rack that has a little bit of overhang that makes it a little bit easier for me to reach. But that's only because I like to carry a gazillion things on my roof rack, like a roof basket and some skis. I like to mix and match a bunch of different things. If I was only carrying one roof box, and those roof boxes can be very versatile and very helpful when you need some extra cargo space, then the Yakima SkyLine FX system, which is what we have here, would be perfect for that. So, it's all about, what are you carrying, where are you going, and how often do you wanna have your roof rack on your roof Hopefully, this video was helpful for seeing some different measurements, helping you decide if this is the right fit for you, your different accessories and cargo that you'll be carrying, and right for your Buick. If you're curious about the installation, stick around. Getting this set up is super simple. Now, when you do get your roof rack, the bars and the towers will come fully assembled, so it's very simple from there. The key difference here is that your rear crossbar, which I already installed, is gonna be the shorter of your options. The larger crossbar, which is size medium, well, that's gonna go up front. So, we are going to install that one together. On your Buick, you're gonna see your flush rail, and there's gonna be just four points where you are removing plugs. So, you're not gonna get the wrong one. Now, to do this, you can get a flathead screwdriver, or I use a trim panel tool, some people use their fingernails, it is possible, and we're gonna slowly lift the head of the plug out. Once you have all the edges lifted out, you can then have just enough grasped to carefully grab that head and then rotate it. So, I am rotating it, if you're facing it, counterclockwise, like that. And then, this will unscrew the plastic plug. This is a lot easier with smaller fingers, like what I have here. And this is what the plug looks like once it's taken out. Once you have all those plugs out, I like to store them in one of the little boxes that came with my roof rack. That way, if I needed to take this crossbar system off again, I can always pop these back into place. Now that that flush rail is clear, let's set up the landing pad. So, your landing pad will come looking like this. We're gonna remove the lid for now. So, that's just gonna pop off, just like that. And then, we're going to prep this for the flush rail. So, you will have these rubber strips. These rubber strips will fit into your landing pad with the little tabs on the inside. And then, you're gonna take a look at these holes. So, when you have this up on your flush rail, you want the holes facing the front of the car, and then the longer edge there facing the back. And then, you're going to use bolts with flat washers to secure these to your roof. See how nicely this now lines up on our roof Now, with the two holes on the edge, you're gonna wanna go for the lower one. That is the one that will fit nicely with your Buick Enclave's flush rails. Do the front hole first, and then do the adjustable back hole once the front hole is threaded in. Then, to tighten down the door bolts, you're gonna have the Security Torx tool. This will be a special tool included with your roof rack. And then, tighten down until your landing pad is secure on the flush rail. Back to the crossbars, we're gonna take these end caps off. You pinch the sides and then you pull that off, and then you use a flathead screwdriver to turn this lock core to the up and down position, and that's gonna be your unlock position. And then, you open this by flipping it down, and that's gonna open this up, making it ready for loading onto our landing pads. Now, you should be able to adjust the tower on the bar. If you cannot, then get the tool included with your crossbars, and you're going to loosen this bolt over here. Once that bolt is loose, you'll then be able to slide that tower and adjust the length. You're gonna need this for it to fit properly on your roof. Now, we're gonna very carefully lift this onto the roof and settle them into the landing pad. I highly recommend doing this with a second person, but you can do this on your own. I do recommend putting down something soft on your roof, just in case. I like to use a towel, or we could use the soft packaging material that came with our roof rack. So, once you have this settled into place and you can adjust the crossbar length to fit, what you're then going to do is push that door in. See, right there With everything in place, you're then going to tighten down your towers with that tool. Now, whenever you use this tool, this is actually a torque tool. You're gonna tighten down until you hear it (tower clicking) click, just like that. That will prevent over-tightening, but will also give you a good reminder that this is actually tightened to spec. So, with that done on both sides, you can then get your end cap, and that will pop right in there. (hand tapping) I like to give it a good old shake test just for good measure, but that's gonna be it for the setup of your roof rack. Hopefully, this video was helpful for seeing how this roof rack looks, works, and installs on a 2022 Buick Enclave.

I like the strength of the Yakima brand and it looks great. It does seem a bit more complicated than might be necessary. I know they have to fit to many different cars but the matching of components is confusing and the installation less than intuitive. The end result is great and etrailers is awesome in every way!

I have a Buick Envision and it seemed as if it would be difficult to get the correct rack, but it turned out to be easy. Exactly what we needed to use our old Yakima bars and kayak sharks with our new Ford Explorer. Our old car, a Ford Expedition, used the same round Yakima bars and kayak sharks but had a different roof rack. Instead of paying $800+ to get a whole new kayak rack system... the adapters we got from etrailer helped us used all the old equipment :)
I had cross bars and landing pads on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I bought these to put on my wife’s new Grand Cherokee L. They were extremely easy to install and now I can easily move the roof rails between the two vehicles. They are a great product as is most of Yakima’s products. I highly recommend them.

My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee used landing pads 18 to mount to the roof my newer 2023 JGC uses landing pad 19. I was able to change the pads thanks to etrailer and install my older roof rack on my newer Jeep. I love that the majority of my roof rack is upgrade-able.
These landing pads allow for the quickest and easiest install and removal of cross bars. This will be the only ones I use going forward.
I have these installed on a 2022 Honda Pilot. I could not get them to fit on my raised roof rails with the included rubber gaskets. I have mounted them without the gasket but this leaves a gap between the rail and the landing pad. This seems secure but does not have a finished look. I will be trying to see how to get the gaskets to fit.

You definitely want to use the gaskets and I dont recommend using the crossbars without them. Here is an install video that might help you out with this part. Let us know if you still some assistance after watching.

The rack base has worked perfectly. I took my Yakima rack off my Tacoma and transferred it to a Honda Pilot and eTrailer had the correct bracket.
