Heavy trailers and bed loads can make the rear end sag and throw off your steering and braking. Firestone Ride-Rite air helper springs add up to 5,000 lbs of load-leveling capacity between your frame and rear suspension to keep things steady. By maintaining level ride height, they help even out load distribution, improve stability, and prevent bottoming out when you’re hauling or towing.
Whether you’re running empty or hauling heavy, the Ride-Rite system adjusts to match. Each spring can be inflated manually from 5 psi up to 100 psi using individual valves, letting you fine-tune pressure side to side for off-center loads. A centered load feels more stable and helps reduce body roll, while the cushioning air support softens contact between the axle and frame for a smoother ride over bumps.

These air springs are built for serious duty with four layers of reinforced rubber and a braided wire girdle that forms the double-convoluted shape. The design boosts burst pressure and gives maximum load support under stress. Corrosion-resistant metal end plates use a rolled crimp seal that keeps the air bags securely anchored, so they hold pressure and perform consistently even after years of hauling.

Each Ride-Rite kit comes complete with brackets, air springs, hardware, air line, and separate valves for manual inflation. The custom-fit brackets mount between your axle and frame and may require drilling depending on the setup. Once installed, you’ve got a tough suspension assist that levels your load, absorbs road shock, and helps protect your leaf springs from permanent sagging or excessive friction.
The construction material of the fittings may vary.

Today, we're going to be taking a look at Firestone Ride-Rite Double Convoluted Air Helper Springs for the rear axle. You'll want to refer to our fit guide here at etrailer.com, to determine the appropriate set for you. Airbags is going to help improve safety and stability when hauling a heavy load. You can adjust the pressure to bring it back to the factory ride height, as well as adjust them independently, so you can adjust for an uneven load. Depending on the set that's appropriate for your vehicle, it can have a max load-leveling capacity between 3,200 pounds and 5,600 pounds. Now you keep in mind that this does not increase the load-carrying capability of your vehicle.
It's just there to help support the weight and bring you back to an even ride.Firestone's double convoluted design features four rubber layers, and a braided girdle in the middle, which helps gives it that double convoluted shape. What this means for you, is that it's going to increase the burst pressure. It's designed to hold up to 100 PSI, to provide the maximum support load. These are to provide assistance when hauling a heavy load in the back of your truck or SUV, or when hauling a large camper or trailer. Another benefit of having the air Springs is it'll help reduce the strain, put on your rear suspension and axle.
They can be used to more evenly distribute the load across the components, so one item isn't taking too much stress. You'll receive everything you need to get it installed in the kit. This includes the fittings where you'll air it up. The airline that'll run from your fittings to your airbags, your airbags, as well as custom fit brackets that are designed to easily and quickly install onto your vehicle. These are manually inflated, so you will need to provide your own air source, or stop by a gas station to adjust them. Now if that seems like too much of a hassle, or you haul multiple varying size loads daily, you can pick up an air compressor kit here at etrailer.com.
Firestone has a few available. We've got the heavy duty installed on our vehicle right now, with part number F2590.Some of our customers are curious if these come with internal jounce bumpers. They do not come with internal jumps bumpers, but with a high pressure of up to 100 PSI, they're plenty able to handle the job. Our customer Jim had to say, "This kit was super easy to install. In a matter of fact, I did the install in the driveway of my in-laws with a basic toolkit, as I found I needed these to provide a more pleasant towing experience when I was moving cross country." And then one year later, Jim had to say, "I like them more, the longer I have them.
I do my own projects around the house, and these are handy for the heavier stuff that you're going to haul from the point of purchase to the house. Keeps the truck level and helps you utilize all of the capability of the truck drivetrain, and frame." And that completes our look at Firestone Ride-Rite Double Convoluted Air Helper Springs for the rear axle..

Still happy with this install, bags help tremendously over bridge joints hauling my 5th wheel. not sure how these compare to Timbren setup, but i would guess better based on being able to adjust pressure. way more stable over bridges and bends in road.

I will be contacting Firestone about this, but what is the year, make, model, and version of the vehicle you are trying to install this on?

Still working great as it should and doesnt leak air. The remote controller is really convenient and can be operated from inside or outside the truck. Definitely worth all the work. The shield I fabricated for the compressor keeps road grit etc. Out of the air intake of the compressor which should be a huge help for the life of the system. Love it.

I ended up adding an airlift compressor which was super easy to install and everything works great! I got tired of checking pressures, the air compressor monitors psi and kicks on if needed. I would buy and install these things again if I ever end up getting a new truck. Works great when towing my 12,000 pound bumper pull camper

Thanks for being honest with your review, Lee. It really is a bummer when a part, even as small as a nut, is missing causing a delay with the install. However, I'm glad that you were able to get everything installed and that the ride is better and safer now. When's the next camping trip?

You're much better at math than me, Clark! I really do appreciate all your attention to detail with this kit as well as with your truck. How often do you are you carrying a load in the truck?

Do you have a question about this Vehicle Suspension?

I wondered if you have tried the soapy water to locate the leak. You can test this by putting soap and water in a spray bottle and spraying the air bag and fittings down. The location of the leak will bubble up as air escapes.
