Optronics STL27 Series Micro Flex Combination Tail Light Diagram

Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The circuit board is sealed, which means that water will not damage the diodes or circuit board.

Combination Lights for Trailers Over 80" Wide

Flatbed trailer over 80" wide with combination tail lights

If a trailer is 80" or wider at its widest point, then it requires rear clearance lights in addition to basic trailer lights. These clearance lights indicate the width of the trailer when it is viewed from the back.

To meet these requirements on a flatbed utility trailer where the bed extends past the wheels, you can install combination trailer lights that include the rear clearance function. For proper mounting, the lights must be installed at the widest points on the rear of the trailer - one on each corner.

PC-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for PC rated light

A PC-rated light produces a 90-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 180 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be clearly seen when you are standing directly in front of the light, as well as when you are standing on either side of the light. When properly installed, this type of light can function as both a front clearance light and a side marker light or as a rear clearance light and side marker light.

Video Transcript for Optronics Miro-Flex Trailer Stop/Turn/Tail Light Installation

Today on our pontoon boat trailer, we're going to be installing the Optronics Miro-Flex, waterproof rectangular trailer stop, turn, and tail light for the right hand side, or passenger side of your trailer. Part number STL26RB. Here, on this particular trailer, we have all three wires that come through. We have a ground wire, even. We're going to go ahead, and be cutting the ring terminal off of our Optronics light here. We'll just be butt connecting directly to our ground wire that's already tied in on the trailer. Go ahead and snip the ring terminal off of that.

I'm going to go ahead and strip a little bit of wire back, as well, the white wire here. Go ahead and come up here to our three wires that are already on the trailer. Strip a little bit of wire back on each of them, as well. As you can see, the wires that come out of the trailer, and the wires off the back of our new light, are the same color. Let's go over what each of the colors do. The white will get connected.

This is the ground wire. The browns will get connected. This is the running, or tail light, circuit. The green wires will get connected. This is your brake and turn signal.

Now, to do this, to make our connection, we're going to be using these heat shrink style butt connectors, so we get a nice watertight seal. Go ahead and add each of them here to our factory harness on the trailer. Now, while this trailer does have the white wire is the ground, built into the wiring harness, if you did not have a white wire for the ground, you would just use the ring terminal that was already connected to your trailer light, and just ground that directly to the boat trailer, or you could loop it around where one of the nuts goes on and secures the light to the trailer. We'll go ahead and connect the wires from the light into the butt connector. Now that we have all of our wires crimped down, we can go ahead and seal up the heat shrink style butt connectors. Today, we're just going to be using a heat gun.

If you don't have a heat gun, you could use a lighter. Just be careful, as you'll need to make sure you keep the heat moving from the lighter, because you can easily burn the wires and damage the insulation on the wires. Next, we're going to go ahead and add a little bit of electrical tape, just to give our connection points a little more protection. Go ahead and put our wires wires back up into the vehicle's frame. Then, line up the two holes on the back side. Slide our light into position. We'll be installing these lock nuts here on the back side. Now, we're ready to go ahead and test out our new light, to make sure everything's working just fine. As you could see here, the tail lights are working just fine. I will go ahead and turn the brake light on. Brake light works, as well. Now, we'll go ahead and do the blinker. That will do it for the installation of the Optronics Miro-Flex waterproof rectangular trailer stop, turn and tail light for the right hand side. Part number STL26RB, on our pontoon trailer. .

Have not installed the unit yet. This is my second purchase from etrailer. The customer service is outstanding!! This order was almost identical to my first order and etrailers contacted me to assure that the order was not a mistaken duplicate order. That was customer service above and beyond. Typical delivery time is three days from placing order. Putting all new load range D tires and replacing all lights with LEDs on boat trailer for 25 foot cabin cruiser. The parts ordered were as advertised. 5 stars for customer service, will report back on products at end of summer.

This light perfectly matches one of another manufacturer that I recently broke. Installation was simple and straightforward. Thank you to etrailer for your quick response and follow up. I will definitely look here first for trailer supplies. Shawn

Thanks for following up. The lights are still working perfectly. More importantly your follow up one year later speaks volumes about how you and your company feel about your Customer Service. Because it doesnt matter what the Company thinks about their Customer Service, it matters most what your Customers think about your Customer Service. And I know....I taught Customer Service Training Classes around the US for 10 years. Way to go....

Except that I had to attach the plug from the old ones to the leads on the new one, this was an exact replacement of the non-LED "waterproof" tail light units that came on my boat trailer. Had to replace one tail/brake light and 4 clearance lights in a year, so I switched it all over to LEDs. I had LEDs on my last trailer and didn't have to replace one in 8 years. If the whole job took an hour, it was a lot. Brighter, and LEDs don't really care if they get wet.

Exactly what I was looking for as a direct replacement of my existing trailer light. At etrailer, I've always received fast, accurate service from people who care about their customers.

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

This fixture was the exact replacement for my 2011 Trailmanor 2720 trailer. The manufacturer had moved to a more modern looking fixture. I was even able to use the old chrome piece from the old fixture to keep a uniform age look. I installed a wireless rearview camera and needed a new fixture and its longer wires to make everything work. May look a little strange, but it works like a charm. E-Trailer service was excellent as usual.

Comments
The fixture is still hanging in there. No issues.

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

These side markers (both red and amber LED) are great for my 12' trailer. They have 3 LEDs (you can also get 4), and their size is perfect for a small trailer. The LED's are really bright, not only at night, but also during the day, so they are easily seen. I especially like the fact that they are sealed, so there should be no water intrusion problems in the future. I have included a few pictures, the first showing the round LED brake/turn/running/reverse lights (that I had purchased earlier from etrailer) with the red side marker mounted vertically on the outside. The second shows a side view of the red side marker light, and the 3rd picture shows the side marker mounted to a small piece of 1" X 1" x 1/8" aluminum angle which I painted black to match the mounting frame of the round LED lights. I mounted the LED side marker to one leg of the aluminum angle, then mounted the other leg with 1" standoffs to two holes already present on the black mounting frame of the round LED light. Although all the lights are sealed against water intrusion, I decided to mount them on each side of the trailer at the top of 2 PVC pipes, about 36" long each, where the lights would not be exposed to immersing in water when launching/retrieving a boat.

Comments
After a year, the lights are still bright as ever. One of them even survived being drug down the highway for 100 yards when the PVC pole it was mounted to came out of its holding fixture!!

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I installed these lights in a [email protected] teardrop camping trailer. The grommet would not work on this style trailer so I installed the lights using a silicone adhesive the same as the original Peterson lights. eTrailer delivered them in the same timely manner I have come to expect from them and the LEDs were easy to install. These lights are blindingly bright - simply amazing. I had rear lights with 1157 bulbs which I had upgraded to 2357 bulbs and equipped the tow vehicle with a powered converter but the light output was dim by today's standards. These lights are twice as bright on running lights and about 4 times brighter on the brake/turn signal elements. The thing we all fear when towing is being hit from behind by a driver that does not see our running, brake or turn signal lights in time. I know these lights will vastly improve the safety and visibility of our trailer. Thanks!

Comments
These lights are great and you have sold a number of them to our friends now.

Ask the Experts about this Optronics Trailer Lights

  • Recommended Waterproof Trailer Lights For Boat Trailer Over 80-Inches Wide
The difference between waterproof and submersible is that the submersible lights have drain holes to let any water drain out if any should find its way inside the light while the waterproof does not allow water in because it is sonically sealed. For a boat trailer I recommend the waterproof since it does prevent water from entering. It is always a good idea to unplug your trailer from your tow vehicle when backing your trailer into water for loading and unloading. We do not have lights...

  • Recommendation for LED Waterproof Corrosion Resistant Rescue Boat Trailer Lights
Since your rescue boat trailer is 188 inches (15 feet 8-inches) tongue to tail and 89-1/2 inches (7-1/2 feet) width I recommend the following: I recommend Optronics right side LED trailer light # STL26RB and left side LED trailer light # STL27RB. They are waterproof and corrosion resistant and will mount to all surfaces. These work great with trailers over 80 inches wide. The left side has a built-in license plate light. • Which Trailer Tail Light Goes with Left Hand Optronics Trailer Light, # STL27RB
The Optronics Trailer Light, # STL27RB, is just the left hand (driver side) light. The right hand light that matches is Miro-Flex, Waterproof, Over 80 Inch, Rectangular Trailer Stop/Turn/Tail Light, # STL26RB. I have also included a link to the available trailer light kits we have available. Kits include a left and right hand tail light, wiring harness, hardware, license plate mounting bracket, and some include additional marker lights.

  • Can a Right Side Trailer Tail Light be Mounted Upside Down on the Left Side
The lens style needs to face a certain way on light # STL26RB. Also, mounting it upside down could cause it to fall off because it slides onto bolt heads to secure to the trailer. The best option is just go ahead and get the proper left side light, # STL27RB, and either block out the bottom lenses or disconnect the wires inside the light that go to the bottom.
