Video Transcript for Installing the TowSmart Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2024 Nissan Frontier

Hi, everyone. Jesse here with etrailer. Today we'll be taking a look at and I'll show you how to install the TowSmart custom-fit trailer hitch receiver on our 2024 Nissan Frontier. The Nissan Frontier is a smaller truck, but that doesn't mean that you can't tow with it or add on accessories to it. And adding a hitch allows you to do that. With this hitch, you can throw on accessories such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier, or you can throw a ball mount on there and hook up to your trailer and hit the road.

Here's a closer look at our hitch on our neighbor's Frontier. The cross tubes are pretty much hidden behind the bumper, so all you'll be able to see is the receiver opening here. This is your standard two inch by two inch receiver opening. Behind that, another standard 5/8 inch pin hole. The pin and clip are not included with the hitch, however, we have many options available here at etrailer.

Also, any accessory that you add on will most likely come with one included. And we have a wire-type safety cable loop here. Very easy to access with whatever style safety cable you might have. For example, this smaller clip. Now, for some measurements, we'll start with our ground clearance.

From the ground to the top of the inside of the collar is right at 17 inches. Then from the center of the pin hole to the edge of the bumper is at four inches. So any folding accessory that you add on, you really shouldn't have to worry about making contact with the vehicle. And for the weight capacities with this hitch, we have a gross trailer weight of 5,000 pounds. That's the amount of weight that you can pull behind the vehicle.

Then we have a maximum tongue weight of 500 pounds, and that's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. You do have the option to use weight distribution with this hitch, and that bumps those numbers up quite a bit. Your gross trailer weight will be 8,000 pounds, and your maximum tongue weight will be 800. Always be sure to double check your Nissan's owner's manual to ensure that your safe out there on the road. All in all, if you're looking for a hitch for your Frontier, you really can't go wrong with the TowSmart option. And as for the installation process, it's really simple. It's just a matter of maybe grabbing an extra set of hands to lift the weight of the hitch and getting it bolted in. If you have experience with this hitch and you wanna share that with us, or if you just wanna share some photos of what it looks like on your truck or what you're using it for, please feel free to leave a review or a comment. If you, after watching this video, feel like you can't get the installation done yourself, maybe you just don't have the time or the space to get it done, feel free to check out our dealer locator to find someone local to you that would be happy to help you out. If you are looking to see how this gets installed, then follow along and I'll walk you through it. We'll start our installation underneath our truck. We're going to just locate our mounting holes. So we're gonna be using three already threaded holes here on both sides. So I'd recommend just taking a wire brush, kind of cleaning out any rust or anything. Ours is pretty new, if yours is older, you may wanna spray some silicone lubricant in there to get all that cleaned out. But once we've ran our brush through, I like to just thread it in and out with the hardware a few times till it's nice and smooth. That way when we have the hitch above our head, we don't have to worry about tightening the threads. But I'll just show you how the hardware will work. Each one of these holes will get a bolt, of course, and then we'll have a conical tooth washer on each bolt with those teeth facing up towards the hitch, that way it bites down. I'd recommend having an extra set of hands. I have my strong friend Daniel here to help me lift this hitch into position. And we'll have to line up our holes. And then what we'll do is thread on one piece of hardware on both sides. That's gonna hold it up into position so I can get the rest of our hardware installed. Now, we can tighten everything down with a 19 or 3/4 inch size. And this rear one is kind of tucked up behind the hitch, so it helps to have a wobble adapter like this, or you'd have to come in with a ratchet. (tool whirring) Now we'll go over everything with a torque wrench and torque it down to the specifications in the instructions. And that's gonna do it for our look at and installation of the TowSmart custom-fit trailer hitch receiver on our 2024 Nissan Frontier.
