Hi, the towbar did arrive in time, properly packed.
Instruction is clear. I did run into two issues which took me some time to resolve.
Issue 1 : the two bolts for the weld-on nuts did not fit. They were too large for the nut but also for the two supplied washers. I had to buy two slightly smaller bolts to make it work.
Issue 2: the position of the holes for the weld-on nuts didn’t align with the position of the weld-on nuts. I almost decided to return the towbar, but finally decided to try to use force to get it in place after installing the towbar using the other four
bolts. Was concerned to damage the fuel tank. It finally worked after a lot of pushing, but had luck).

Final result is very good, solid as a rock and I am satisfied, but again, I almost decided to return the towbar.

Overall, I’m very pleased with my Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver I purchased online through etrailer. I appreciated the ability to track the shipping progress after my purchase. Shipping was faster than I expected. The packaging was sufficient and was in good shape upon arrival. The quality of the hitch is solid with an excellent paint coating. All the parts needed for installation were in the packaging along with clear instructions.
The only reason I didn’t give the hitch a 5 star rating is because the installation didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped. A hole for one of the threaded bolts was about 1/16” to 1/8” off center. I was able to eventually get the bolt in after fighting it for a while, but it wasn’t easy. I expect the holes lined up perfectly on the manufacturing detail drawing when being fabricated, but the hitch may have twisted a tad bit during the welding process. Working in design and shop planning for a sheet metal shop for close to forty years I know how easily that can happen.
Even with the challenge I had during the installation process, I highly recommend the Curt Trailer Receiver for anyone looking for a solid trailer hitch. I don’t think that you will find a better value for your money and my experience purchasing it through etrailer could not have been better.

We used this on our mini van and it helped us pull a utility trailer that we used when moving. It has held up great! 1 year old, no complaints!

Precisely engineered for perfect alignment and installation. Very satisfied! Light duty vehicle will now be able to tow small boats and utility trailers as situation arises.

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2003 Mazda MPV Van & How to Tell if it Has Ground Effects
It is a bit confusing since there isn't any detailed info from Curt that explains it, but I can help you out. Ground effects for your 2003 Mazda MPV van are an additional trim package, and if you take a look at the accompanying photo, you can see an MPV with that trim package. You can compare your bumper to the one in the photo, or you can call a local Mazda dealer with your VIN and they will be able to tell you what is on your van. There is a hitch option for your 2003 Mazda MPV if you...

  • 2 inch Hitch Recommendation for a 2005 Mazda MPV
The two different MPV's you mentioned are of different generations so the hitch fits between the two aren't the same. For your 2005 you would want the part # C12288 which is a confirmed fit. This is a 1-1/4" hitch, and the only one available. There are no 2" hitches avalable. For trailer wiring you would then want the part # 56010.

  • Compatibility of Trailer Hitches with 2001 Mazda MPV Van
We can help you find a suitable hitch for your 2001 Mazda MPV. For your 2001 Mazda MPV we do offer two sizes and classes of trailer hitch receiver, both a 1-1/4-inch Class II type and a higher-capacity 2-inch Class III. Correct fits for these will depend on whether your MPV has the ground effects package. The linked page will allow you to select your vehicle style from the drop-down menu to then see hitches that are compatible. The 1-1/4-inch hitch # C12288 from Curt, works with or without...

  • How to Determine if a 2000 Mazda MPV Van has Ground Effects
From what I could find it appears that models that do have the ground effects will have a trim piece at the bottom of the rear bumper that also wraps around to the sides of the vehicle. I included a picture with an arrow pointing to the area in question next to a van that does not have that trim piece. However, I do recommend contacting a Mazda dealer and have them run the VIN number and they can tell you what options came with the van. The hitch # C12288 will work on you MPV Van whether...

  • What Kind of Suspension Enhancement will Fit My 2002 Mazda MPV Van?
We do have a suspension enhancement system that works for your 2002 Mazda MPV, but Air Lift # AL60759 does not fit. Currently the only suspension enhancement we sell for your application is the Timbren jounce spring # TMRMPV. This jounce spring only works with the 2wd van. The Timbren system is easy to install and is maintenance free. A Timbren jounce spring is a good idea because you don't need to add air before towing and there aren't any leaks to worry about. Air helper springs are good...

  • Concerns About Using Older Vehicle for Towing Rental Trailer Over Mountains
In my research, I saw several reports stating that if the vehicle has the tow package, which consists of a transmission cooler and heavy duty radiator, it can tow up to 3000 lbs. Without the tow package, you'll be limited to 2000 lbs. I would urge you to confirm this for yourself. Your Mazda dealer might be able to clarify for you. Given the fact that the vehicle has over 100,000 miles and given that your trip to California will almost certainly involve driving up and down mountains, I'd...

  • Can Rear Hatch or Trunk Be Opened with a Trunk Mount Bike Rack Installed on 2003 Mazda MPV
You are right, with a trunk mount bike rack installed, bikes or no bikes, you cannot open the rear hatch or trunk on any vehicle including your 2003 Mazda MPV. There are a few reasons why. First, the opening between the trunk/hatch and the body of the vehicle will change shape. It can get smaller which will cause the bike rack hooks to bend the metal on the trunk lid. I have seen this happen. The hinges are not meant to support the additional weight of the rack so if you could open it...
