Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2019 Honda Odyssey

Speaker 1: Today we have 2019 Honda Odyssey, you are going to be taking a look at the best way to install the Draw-tite Class III Neck Trailer Hitch Receiver-Part Number 76171.What our hitch looks like when its installed, you can see the cross-tube is visible, however its got a round tube design so its not going to take away from the vehicle. Fits nicely with the contour. It's gonna be a Class III Hitch, it's gonna be 2 inch by 2 inch. This hole here is going to be for your hitch pin hole. This is going to be 5/8 inch in diameter. It doesn't come with a hitch but however you can find a hitch pin and clip on our website. This hole here is going to be for a J-pin stabilization device only.

What that does, is it takes the shake and play out of any of hitch round accessories. Its gonna have plate style safety chain loops, it gives you plenty of room for different size safety chain hooks. Its also going to have a nice pre welded bracket over here on the side for any of your wiring accessories you may want to add later. This hitch does have a reinforced collar to give you a little extra stability on your receiver tube. Its going to have a nice black powder coat finish, that's going to help resist any rust or corrosion. As far as weight capacities go, you are going to have a 675 lb.

Max ton weight, which is the onward pressure of the inside of the receiver tube. Your going to have a 4500 Max trailer weight which is a trailer plus the load included. I do recommend checking your owners manual of your odyssey to make sure the vehicle can withstand that amount of weight. You want to pick the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. Now you can weight distribution with this hitch, the Ton weight is going to stay the same at 675 lbs.

however your trailer weight is going to go up to 5000 lbs.Now lets give you a few measurements to help you when deciding on any hitch mount accessories you may need, such as a Bike Rack, ball mount, or Cargo Carrier. On the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most part of the bumper, it will be about 4 inches. From the ground to the top of the inner most part of the receiver tube, it will be about 12 1/2 inches. Now lets show you how to get this installed. To start our installation, your directions are not going to tell you this but to make your installation a little bit easier, this extra step is going to help. We are going to lower our exhaust because we are going to weld nuts and a hole over here in our frame well that we need to access for, to put our hardware in.So how we are going to this, is we are going to take a strap, you can hang it from anywhere you can secure it on the back of the vehicle.

I like to go from the springs because they're easily accessible. Look at that. Then we're gonna have here and a rubber hanger back here. We're gonna take some silicon lubricant and we're gonna spray down our hanger, like that. We'll take some channel locks, you have a pry bar, pry rod works too. Channel locks don't work all the time because of the spacing. Just like that. And for this one back here we'll take our pry bar, we'll wedge it, find somewhere to wedge it here. We'll start working it off, just like that. We'll take our strap and loosen it up a little bit. What we don't want, we have another hanger up there, what we don't want, is we don't want this to rest on itself. We want to support it, so it doesn't mess with the exhaust pipe up ahead of it.Next, we're going to have our exhaust deflector, two push pin fasteners on the outside and take a flathead screwdriver at the center. Once you get the center out you want to make sure when you pull this out, you get the base with it. If the center does come out, you can always put it back in just to make sure you pull out the base too. Now here on our drivers side we are going to have one, two, three, four more push pin fasteners we need to take out. We'll take a 10 millimeter socket, we're gonna add the bolt right here. Then we're gonna have a fillips head screw, right here on the inside of the fender well. Once you remove your screw, remove your panel and we'll set it aside.Next we're gonna put our hitch into place. We're going to utilize our exhaust on this side to hold up our hitch, while we put hardware in on the other side. If you have an extra set of hands, its always a good idea to use that extra person to help hold it. If not, this is one way you can do it. Next we'll take our hex bolt, inaudible 00:04:46 and make sure the teeth are facing toward the hitch. We're gonna thread it into the existing lug nuts in the bottom of our frame rail. Go ahead and get one in, on each side of the hitch to help hold it in place, while we install our remaining hardware. I'll take a 19 millimeter socket and we're gonna tighten all of the hardware. We are going to repeat that for the other side of the vehicle.Next we'll torque all of hardware to the specifications in the instructions. Once you have all of your hardware torqued, you can reinstall your exhaust and remove your safety strap. Then we'll trim out our other panel on our drivers side, according to the instructions. They say one inch by 10 inches, right on the inside of this raised section here, is about one inch across, so we'll go 10, lets put a mark here, just like that. And we're gonna take out this piece right here. I'm just going to use a dremmel tool with a cutting blade, you can probably use a utility knife it will probably go through this pretty flexible plastic. Whatever means you have. Take the utility knife and we'll just kind of trim off all of the burrs. Like that. Now we'll go ahead and test fit and see if there is any other modifications we need to make with it. Looks like we're good. We'll go ahead and reinstall our fasteners. Then we can reinstall our exhaust deflector and we're ready to go. That will do it for our Draw-tite Class III Neck Trailer Hitch Receiver-Part Number 76171 on our 2019 Honda Odyssey.

We purchased a hitch for our Honda Odyssey and I have never been so please with a company as I have with etrailer.com. The quality of the hitch was great and the price was fantastic. The best was their directions for installation. My husband was able to install it within 1.5 hours. It saved us quite a bit of money when we didn’t have to have an outside company install it. The hitch works perfectly for our bike rack. Great company, great quality. 658564

Easy to install. Very stable. This design picks up 3 bolt points, much sturdier than the ones tha pivk up only 2 bolts on each side. 590909

I couldn't be more pleased with this product. The installation was extremely easy. The toughest part is getting the muffler disconnected to allow room for tightening bolts but that took 3 minutes with the help of a flat head screwdriver. Everything fit perfectly and the design is such that all original pieces of the vehicle still fit where they were prior to install. 30 minutes or so to install is all you need, including un-boxing. If you have an extra pair of hands to help position it's better, you'll just need them for a couple of minutes. Great product and service! 552935

Great product. Shipping was quick (2 days) and free shipping on our entire order. We ordered a bike rack, cargo platform, hitch receiver, draw bar kit, T-One wiring, locking J-pin, and a few other small items. The free shipping was excellent (bet the UPS driver hates us, though). The hitch receiver was falling out of the box and had some minor paint damage, but easily touched up. etrailer really should either double box the receivers or wrap the ends with bubble wrap, though. Pricing was excellent, and though the same product can sometimes be found a few dollars cheaper, the free shipping on such a heavy item made it a no brainer, especially considering that I could order all of the products I wanted and needed with free shipping on the entire order, where shipping costs alone from another vendor would have more than offset the small price difference. Regardless, etrailer’s online installation videos also prompted me to simply order everything from them, as the information that etrailer offers is definitely worth something to me for doing a self install. Now, onto the actual installation....I didn’t have ramps to back my Odyssey on, but we did end up jacking up the rear of the vehicle and using jack stands to gain a few inches of clearance (yes, the new generation Odyssey is lower than you think). We placed a moving blanket on the garage floor for comfort, as well as cleanliness. We found that we didn’t have to drop the exhaust, but one person holding it out of the way with a pry bar is sufficient, but you will need to lube the rearmost exhaust hanger, and allow it to slide a bit. I would highly recommend having two people for this project, as the receiver is rather heavy, and is easier to have one person hold the weight of it while the other starts the bolts. Note that the torque spec for all 6 bolts is [see installation instructions] lb ft, and requires some strength to achieve. We also reinstalled the trim piece from the driver side bumper after trimming (though some people have left it off). It was simple enough to trim with a [rotary] tool and cut off wheel. Overall, a rather simple installation, if you have the right tools. I will definitely purchase again from etrailer if the need arises. Great service and great prices. Again, the videos they offer, as well as copies of the printed instructions on their website did help sway my purchasing decision. 679017

Watch the video, and watch it again. Installation will be a breeze. Don't blow off the exhaust relocation, or you had better have a second set of hands with a pry bar to keep it out of your way. As an engineer, I'd recommend a thread locker to keep things in place for the life of the vehicle. Don't add thread locker until etrailer publishes a new torque value, though. Not unless you can do the math and take the responsibility like an adult. 670736

Very fast shipping and plenty of instructions on how to install the tow hitch. While there were minor issues, all went well and looks very good. Now just need to install the wiring, which I also purchased and the video makes that look simple as well. Most important, the quality looks great and the price couldn't be beat. 495805

2018 Honda Odyssey

This was an extremely easy install. You will however want a helper to lift one of the sides and start the bolts. We did not lower the exhaust pipe from it's hangar as instructed but the receiver still slid easily into place. The exhaust can then support one end. It was a little tighter access to start the bolts this way but not difficult. The finished install looks great as the hitch mounts tight to the bumper cover. 504969

I plan to use the hitch mostly for carrying a bike rack and it seems to meet my needs perfectly. It's not offensive to look at and it has enough robustness that if I want to actually tow something I'll be able to. I really appreciated that etrailer has an online instruction video for installing each of the hitches they sell for my vehicle. I could evaluate each hitch not just on its carrying capacity, but also how hard it is to install. And, I have to agree with the rating system etrailer uses for the complexity of the installation. Best of all, I spent about a quarter of what the dealer was going to charge for a hitch. 563480

I am not a professional and It took me 1 hour to install and it fits perfectly. You need to have some tools like a wrench with extension, and a crowbar/pry tool to push the exhaust pipe (last section) out with some WD-40. Once the exhaust pipe is out of the rubber boot, you need a second person to pull the exhaust pipe to the side/down and it will make your life much easier. There is a small piece of plastic connected to the bumper on the same side as the exhaust pipe and it's optional to be taken out. I cut 11" of the plastic instead of 10" per instruction and it fits well. Overall, it's a 2 people job. The hitch is high quality and it's highly recommended. 550572

2017 Honda Odyssey EXL. Excellent product. Compare to the OEM trailer, this one tops it off and the reason is when you pay $1500 for the OEM trailer hitch, the bumper has to be removed and cut. On this one, 6 bolts plus some muscle and you are done. I cannot believe this trailer hitch cost much less and a lot less work than the OEM part. Anytime I see parts to be cut is a big red flag. I will buy it again on my next car.

The Draw Tite hitch came within 2 days of ordering and was installed in about 1.5 hours. The hitch itself is heavy duty and appears well constructed. I ended up moving the exhaust like the video recommends and didn't have WD-40, so it took a lot more effort. I also used ramps to give myself more room to maneuver. The area that was the toughest (surprisingly) was the screw the needed to be removed from the wheel well. I have big hands and it was a little tough to get in there. I have the dremel tool and that made cutting the trim very easy. Overall a pretty easy project. 625570

Installed on 2019 Honda Odyssey. Exactly the same as 2018 Odyssey install. Utilized installation video and followed exact process with no problems. One person install without a lift so used a motorcycle jack to stabilize center and man-handled the bolting. Recommend two-person installation. Wiring harness installed per the video. No problems. Exact same setup as 2018 Odyssey. Tie wrapped module instead of sticky tape. Looks good, sturdy construction. Videos are priceless. Honda dealer wanted $1300 for similar product. I'm complete for just under $200 from etrailer.com. Plan on towing kayak trailer and maybe our 5x10 utility for short trips. Also bike rack will be attached to receiver. 525709

The trailer hitch receiver was shipped quickly and received within a few days. Installation was easy, but you definitely will need two people. I installed it on my 2018 honda odyssey and also bought a 40 dollar ramp which made it easier to get under the van. The videos are extremely helpful. This was the primary reason why I bought it from etrailer. I will definitely buy from them again. The only negative experience was the shipping box was ripped and the trailer reciever was sticking out which resulted in minor paint chipping. I would recommend that etrailer used a bigger box with styrofoam or padding to protect the ends. For this reason alone, I am docking a star for the overall experience. 568579

The trailer hitch fit my 2018 Honda Odyssey perfectly. Installing it in my home garage by myself was a bit of a challenge (an extra pair of hands would have been helpful), but all of the parts were packaged and complete. The video installation instructions were also very clear and there were no surprises. 539406

Overall great experience! The hitch arrived quickly once I asked that a back order item be removed from the purchase. It would have been nice to know that the balance of the order was being held awaiting the arrival of the backorder item. That being said, once I found out it was being held and asked that the back order item be removed, etrailer acted quickly in getting that item taken off the order and getting the balance of the order to me. After watching the videos from etrailer on installation i was able to get the hitch installed without a problem. It took me a little longer than estimated as i was installing it by myself and without a lift but still only a little over a hour. I have ordered from a etrailer in the past and in a few years when I replace this vehicle I am sure I will again. 528393

I have attached an installation video. At the 7 minute time stamp our installer replaces the splash panel. It is held in place by fascia trim.

I took my time and installed it in about an hour. I didn't lift the vehicle or even remove the exhaust hanger. I was able to do the entire install solo. The rack is very heavy so I used a floor jack to lift the one side while I bolted up the other side. Overall, a high quality hitch. 593507

Product is very good. Bolt holes were a little tough to align, but they work fine without any modification. I was a little disappointed that I didn't hear anything from the company when my order was delayed as they had run out of stock for our item. A phone call or email message stating this would have been nice. I did call customer service several days after having not received the product as expected, and was made aware of the delay. 517209

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • What is the Difference Between the Draw-Tite Hitch # 76170 and # 76171 for the 2018 Honda Odyssey
The biggest difference between the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitches, # 76170 and # 76171, is the # 76170 hitch sits up closer to the bumper which will give you a little more clearance between the bottom of the hitch and the ground. The Draw-Tite # 76170 is less visible with only the receiver opening sticking out from under the rear of the van. The Draw-Tite Hitch, # 76171, actually sits lower and the cross tube can be seen under the bumper of the Odyssey. This hitch will give you less ground...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2018 Honda Odyssey
There are hitches available for a 2018 Honda Odyssey, and I recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 76171. This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver that has a tongue weight capacity of 675 lbs and a gross towing weight capacity of 4,500 lbs. You will still be able to use your Odyssey's tailgate foot sensor; just activate it on either side of the receiver tube. If you plan on towing, you can use ball mount kit # 989900 and for wiring you would need T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118753....

I attached pictures that show the difference in appearance for you to check out as well. The first is the # 76170 and the second is # 76171. I would go with the # 76170 as it does not much better! As you likely noticed these hitches are pretty similar in terms of physical appearance, however when installed on the Odyssey we found that the Draw-Tite model is tucked just a bit further behind the rear bumper. This allows for a cleaner appearance on the vehicle and might prevent a painful bruise on somebody's shin....

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2018 Honda Odyssey
I wish that was something we had, but since hitch installs for vehicles like your 2018 Honda Odyssey are relatively very simple for mechanics we have had the best luck telling people to find a local garage with a good reputation and let them handle the install. For your vehicle the Draw Tite part # 76171 would be a great solution that we would recommend highly. It has the best capacities, price and installs very simply. I attached an install video as well. For trailer wiring you'd...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Towing a Motorcycle Trailer with a 2019 Honda Odyssey
To tow a small trailer with your 2019 Honda Odyssey I recommend using the Class III Draw-Tite # 76171 because it has a 2" receiver with the highest weight ratings. These are well over the ratings for your Odyssey so you will be limited by your vehicle instead of the trailer hitch. Another plus of using this trailer hitch is that it has a tab welded on it for installing the wiring connector for your trailer lights. For wiring I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118781 because of how easy...

For your 2018 Honda Odyssey, I definitely recommend going with the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Round Tube Hitch # 76171. This particular trailer hitch has an estimated installation time for somebody with some experience of around 40 minutes. We rate the installation difficulty at a 4 out of 10, meaning it is a fairly simple process if you are comfortable with car maintenance. • Installing Trailer Hitch on a 2019 Honda Odyssey with Broken Weldnut
Yes, it sounds like you broke something. Specifically one of the weldnuts that are on the inside of your 2019 Honda Odyssey's frame for the trailer hitch's bolts to thread into. It's annoying but not really a huge problem. Although it'll probably cost you a trip to the hardware store. You need a Grade 8 carriage bolt and a washer, nut, and spacer block that fit it. You also need a bolt leader, part # 80101-1. You're first going to need to get the bolt out by breaking off the head....
