Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Ford Explorer - Draw-Tite

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford Explorer, we're going to be taking a look at and I'm going to show you how to install the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 76034.This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. As you can see, the cross tube is visible. However, most of it is up behind the bumper. This is going to have a nice, round design, so it's going to fit with the contour of the vehicle. The hitch does sit nice and tucked in behind the edge of the bumper fascia, so you're not going to have to worry about hitting your legs or your shins on it when you're loading and unloading the vehicle. It's going to be a class III. It's going to be a 2 inch x 2 inch.

It's going to have a reinforced collar to give you a little extra stability on your receiver tube. This hole right here, your hitch pin hole, is going to be 5/8 inch in diameter. This hole here is for a J pin stabilization device only. What that's used for is for taking the shake and play out of any of your hitch-mounted accessories. This is going to have a plate style safety chain rings.

You can see they have nice large openings. Gives you plenty of room for different-sized safety chain hooks. This hitch is going to have a maximum weight of 675 lbs., which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. It's going to have a max trailer weight of 4500 lbs., which is the trailer plus the load included. Now, you can use weight distribution with this. However, the tongue weight's going to go down to 500 lbs.

Trailer weight is going to go up to 5000 lbs. I always recommend you check your owner's manual to make sure your vehicle can withstand that amount of weight, and you're going to want to pick the lowest number between the hitch and the vehicle. Now we will give you a few measurements to help you in deciding on any hitch-mounted accessories you may need, such as a bike rack, ball mount, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the bumper will be about 4 inches. From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube will be about 16 inches. Now let's show you how to get this installed. First thing we need to do is we're going to need to lower our exhaust.

We're going to take a strap and you can hang it from anywhere that's solid. What I like to do, because the springs are easy to get to, is just hook it on the springs and cinch it up.Next thing we're going to do is we need to remove our rubber isolators that are holding our exhaust in place. We're going to have three of them. You're going to have one on your passenger side, one on your driver side, and we're going to have one right here in the center. What we're going to do is we're going to spray a lubricant. Soapy water works just fine. Then we'll take a pry bar and we're going to slide them off. We'll repeat that same process for the other two.Next thing we need to do, we're going to take an 18-mm socket and we're going to remove these two bolts that are holding our exhaust hanger bracket up. Here on the driver side, our exhaust hanger is actually going to have this hook. We're going to have two bolts here on the bottom, and we're going to have a third one up here on the inside of the frame.Next we need to remove the two rubber isolators from our brackets. We'll just pull them off. The brackets will not be reinstalled.Next we'll take our carriage bolt. You have a bracket on the inside of your hitch. You're going to feed it from the outside in, put on our rubber isolator, flat washer, and lock nut. Using an 11/16 socket, tighten it into place. On our passenger side, we're going to have a carriage bolt, spacer block, and our pull wire. We're going to go right into this hole right here on the back side of the frame. What we're going to do is called a reverse pull. First we're going to put on our spacer block. Then we're going to thread our carriage bolt onto our pull wire, push the bolt up first, and then we'll push our spacer block into place just like that. We're going to leave our wire attached this time. Now, with an extra set of hands we'll load our hitch into place on our passenger side. Remember to put your pull wire in the corresponding hole in the hitch. We're going to take a hex bolt, conical tooth washer, make sure that the teeth are facing toward the hitch. We'll get an end on each side of the hitch to hold it in place while we install our remaining hardware. Now we can remove our pull wire. We'll add on a conical tooth washer and nut. If you find it's a little difficult to get that washer and nut on there, if you tighten your bolt just a little bit, that'll give you a little more extra room. To tighten those, we'll use a 20-mm socket. Now we can tighten all of our hardware in place.Next we'll torque all of our hardware to the specifications in the instructions. You're going to repeat that for all remaining hardware.Next we're going to put our exhaust back in place. We're going to start with the center isolator, slide it into place like that. Now we can remove our strap and we're ready to go.That'll do it for the look at and installation on the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 76034 on our 2018 Ford Explorer.

Bought it and had a mechanic put it on for $75. He confirmed I should have no problems. I have used it consistently on our Ford Explorer with a double axle trailer loaded pretty heavy most times. I highly recommend it. 576298

First time buying from etrailer. My order arrived at my house faster than expected. Installation of the drawtite hitch on my 2014 ford explorer went exactly as expected- I followed the video tutorial on the etrailer website and was able to install the hitch by myself in just under 2 hours at home in my garage. I am NOT a mechanic, so I was relieved when my installation followed the video exactly. The video was well done, the hitch went on smoothly, and the parts appear high quality. I am very pleased with the purchase. I will buy from etrailer again. 456645

First I want to say that etrailer is a great company to deal with! They have great prices, super fast shipping, and the communication is astounding (they emailed me when it was dropped offer at the post office, when it was leaving the post office, and when it was delivered to my front door) talk about service. Now on to the review of the hitch reciever. It fits great and slides right in place. I did 90% of the job solo just needed an extra hand from my wife to lift into place. It fits tight to the bumper and is resessed behind the lip of the bumper a bit which is nice it gives it a clean stock look which is why I chose this exact model and couldn't be happier. I bought this to tote my jetskis and have no doubt that it wont perform flawlessly. Thanks again etrailer you guys rock! 546420

Received my Hitch really quick with the free shipping. Installation was straight forward following the instructional video produced by etrailer.com. As the video. suggests, its a good idea to have someone help while installing. Not having a vahicle lift, which will probably be the case for 99% of the people that order this product, once you have your SUV on jack stands, use the car jack to hold the hitch in place while you bolt it, it worked out great for me. Anyways...the product looks very nice once installed and im sure it will serve us well for many years. Very happy with my purchase from etrailer, will definitely order from them again. 284373

The product was ordered on Tuesday and arrived Friday morning. Excellent service I must admit. The only reason that this company was not awarded five stars is that the packaging was torn. Fortunately, none of the accompanying parts were lost due to this but, in my humble opinion, the product could have been packaged a bit better. The weight and configuration of the product (hitch assembly) could have been stabilized within the box a bit better reducing the opportunity for damage and product loss. Outside that minor issue, this company performed extremely well. I would recommend them and would do business with them if needed in the future. The product itself arrived with no physical damage and the small parts purchased at the time were within the package but one end of the hitch assembly was piercing the box and created a hole large enough for those items to have been released. 509568

I wanted a receiver hitch on my Ford Explorer. The Ford dealer quoted me almost $500 installed! I decided to search on doing it ourselves and came across etrailer.com. I placed the order on line and we received it super quick. My husband installed it in a little more than an hour. The wiring harness plugged right into the factory output plug and was perfect. I highly recommend etrailer.com and this product! Very happy 431584

Most of the job was pretty easy and went quickly enough. Not including cleanup and initial setup getting my Explorer on the ramps, I spent 2 hours on this job. 1 hour of that was spent trying to tighten the 2 carriage bolts that hold the exhaust hangers. The nuts went on so hard that I couldn't stop the bolts from spinning even with channel locks and vise grips. I ended putting the heads in my bench vise, cranking the nuts down as much as I could, and then taking them off again. The assembly went together a little easier then but I still couldn't get them as tight as I wanted. Whoever is sourcing the parts for this kit must have gotten a great deal on these bolts. Regular bolts would have been much better. My 2016 Explorer is an XLT, not an Interceptor as shown in the video and there are only 3 exhaust hangers. 2 in back and 1 forward/middle. So, I took away 3 stars for using parts that made a simple job difficult. 574924

Great value - Easy to Install - Quality Product I'm no mechanic and have limited tools, but this installation on our 2017 Ford Explorer was an absolute breeze. I found the hardest part to be the removal to the exhaust hanger brackets and finding something to support the exhaust while I was putting the hitch into place. Easily a one man job, but having another set of hands to help out would be very beneficial. The staff at ETrailer were very helpful and went above and beyond answering all my questions. Overall this was an excellent first experience at ETrailer as well as the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch. Happy Customer! 315985

Delivery was amazing. Ordered on Monday and had the products on Wednesday. I am 71 and a retired desk jockey but was able to install the hitch and wiring harness on my 2016 Explorer in less than 3 hours including my coffee breaks. I used a small hydraulic jack to lower my exhaust onto a car support and then used the same hydraulic jack to lift my hitch while I bolted it up. The install would have gone faster with 2 people but there were no problems doing the installation by myself other than using more time. My only suggestion would be for you to offer a completed package for the hitch and wiring harness installation. I searched your reviews and was able to get everything I needed including the extra long zip ties but after the installation was complete I realized that I forgot to order the tester. But everything worked great when I hooked the trailer up. Great product, great price, great delivery and easy installation. Why pay UHaul $400 plus or Ford $600 plus for the same parts and installation ? You can do it ! 384899

I received the product, and I had read the instructions and watched the video. I liked a lot the video because it showed me exactly how I had to install my frame-trailer-hitch. I didn’t have a way to lift my Ford Explorer but still I was able to install it without a single problem. It fit perfectly. The video was extremely accurate. Although I still haven’t used it for a bike rack, my main purpose of the purchase, I feel safer with a more real “steel fence” that I feel add extra safety to my driving. I had an accident 4 years ago where I was hit from behind, and if I had this before, the damage would have been much less. Very satisfied with my purchase. 512579

Due to the sales rep not ordering my wife's 2017 ford explorer with the tow package (always inspect what you expect) I was forced to search for a hitch. Initially etrailer offered it at $160 which was more than I was willing to pay. After waiting a couple months the price dropped to a comfortable level. The package arrived in good shape (my e-150 hitch had chipped paint due to the shipper's carelessness). The hitch bolted up quite seemlessly, though being a mortal, it took me 2:24 (more than the :45 suggested). The bolt leader for feeding the hardware was an awesome addition to the installation and the wiring harness I also ordered was a breeze especially with the instructional video. I would place the wiring harness between the frame and the hitch. I didn't and you can see the missed opportunity in my pic. Also, the carriage bolt shoulder IS too small and needs to be standard length. In hind sight, I'd buy a standard carriage bolt like suggested in another review, but made it work with a crowbar. Having ordered the 4-way harness, I realize that it doesn't include a reverse wire, so be aware of that. Also, you will want a deep well socket for the new bushing carriage bolts. Not knowing this hitch came with a mounting bracket I also bought the 4-way plug bracket. The 4-way plug bracket was also an awesome addition. Buy some vinyl tube for the outside carriage bolt on this bracket (for sound dampening) and you'll be a happy camper. 572501

I bought a new 2011 Ford Explorer, I need to pull a small utility trailer. I bought this hitch from etrailer, this was so easy to install. It took about an hour to install by myself. Reading the directions, they were very easy to understand. The tips were very helpful too, soap was a very helpful tip to get the rubber isolators off the exhaust. I lowered the exhaust in the three places, and it fit perfectly. One thing I needed to do that was a pain was to do as they said, I should have tightened the bolts to # 6, 7, and 8 before I raised the hitch onto the car. I thought it only needed to be in place before installing. Make sure to put on the rubber isolators onto #6, 7, and 8 and tighten the set up before raising the hitch onto the car (it was a pain to tighten while hitch was up on the car. The hitch looks great, it is not ugly and works great. See attached pics. 24664

Mounted this hitch to my 2017 Ford Explorer XLT this evening. With setting up and then rummaging all over for my 18mm socket, the entire install only took about 1.5 hrs solo. Two people could get this installed in a much shorter amount of time. Since I was going it alone, I opted not to use my lift and instead used a floor jack as the second set of hands. Additionally, I put a bolt in each side to hold everything in place instead of doing one side, then the other like the video showed. Only ding I would give is the carriage bolts supplied with the hitch that are used for the exhaust hangers do not sit well in the holes of the hitch. This allows them to turn when tightening the lock nut. I used a pair of vice grips on the head of the bolt. But, there's not much purchase there. So, either a larger carriage bolt (or smaller hole) or a carriage bolt with a larger head to grab hold of. I also purchased the Tekonsha wiring harness number 118549. This, is where I ran into problems. The T-fitting does not fit my vehicle. It looks identical. But, when you attempt to connect either side, you find the two small alignment tabs are angled differently and the male harness fitting is the exact same dimension as the female vehicle fitting, thus preventing one from connecting. Waiting to resolve that issue now. All in all, very happy! 396808

So far, absolutely no issues with the products. Ive towed my trailer numerous times and never had a problem. Thanks for making it easy!

hitch itself looks good. It came when promised but I was not happy with some of the provided hardware. This required me to purchase some of the muffler hanger mounting bolts myself. Only a $5 expense but inconvenient none the less. The squared portion of the bolt in the picture is supposed to line up with a oval NOT ssquare hole on the hitch. Two problems 1. The squared of portion need to be deeper. It barley catches the whole its intended to be inserted in. 2. The hole itself is oval shape and a drop to big, causing the bolt to have too much play and making it very difficult to tighten the nut. See enclosed photo. 403042

I found this hitch for a great price here on etrailer.com, with free shipping, and it arrived several days earlier than I expected it. This was my first order on etrailer.com, and so far, so good. I received an email from etrailer.com, confirming that the hitch was delivered, with some additional information about the hitch, installation video, and toll-free number in case I had any problems or questions. Great customer service so far, now I was eager to get out to the garage and install this thing! I am not one to read directions, and even though I'd never installed a hitch before, it seemed pretty straightforward. But given the importance of such a component, I decided to read the directions and watch the video, and I have to say, I was very impressed with both. The video was especially helpful, it gave me the exact sizes of sockets I'd need to use, and had helpful tips for removing the exhaust mounts from the rubber hangers. Armed with all this information, I went out to install the hitch. I didn't have a strap to support the exhaust as shown in the video, but because I was doing this without raising the vehicle, I used my floor jack to support the exhaust at the "Y" near the rear differential. I also used some rope, tied between the rear springs, to support the exhaust system, just in case. Removal of the existing components was exactly as described in the video, and about 15 minutes into the install, I was ready to attach the rubber muffler hangers to the carriage bolts on the hitch. This was about the only tricky part of the install, and I wish I'd seen some of the comments here before I spent any time on it. As other reviewers stated, the square shoulder on the carriage bolts were not quite deep enough, and when tightening the locknut onto the bolt, it kept slipping out of the hole in the hitch bracket. I tried holding it in place with pliers, but that proved unsuccessful. I then went to my trusty Vise-Grips, and that did the trick - I simply clamped them down to hold the head of the carriage bolt securely against the bracket. This worked out great, and I was able to tighten the nut down on each side with no further issues. Now on to mounting the hitch. Using the wire leader supplied, it was pretty easy to get the one bolt with backer plate into the proper location on the passenger side. Then I was able to position a jack stand under the center of the bumper, then carefully work the hitch up into position, and just had a helper to balance the hitch while I aligned and hand-tightened the 4 bolts in place. Then hand-tightened the nut onto the other bolt, made some minor adjustments to the alignment of the whole thing (there is a little play in the bolt holes, so I wanted it to be as close to "perfect" as possible), and then tightened all of them down with a ratchet. Finally got out the torque wrench and tightened everything down to the recommended spec, attached exhaust hooks back into the rubber hangers, and was ready to go. All in about an hour - couldn't have been much easier. The hitch looks great on the back, though like another reviewer noted, the driver's side exhaust tip now hangs slightly lower than the passenger side. Not all that noticeable unless you are looking for it (or unless you are a perfectionist like me...) This obviously has no impact on the performance of the hitch or the vehicle, so not too concerned about it. Thanks to etrailer.com for a great product, great customer service, and an excellent installation video! I'll post an update once we actually use the hitch - first trip is in a week or so, will just be hauling 4 bikes on a hitch-mounted bike rack, and I expect this to handle it with ease, and I feel good knowing this Class III is way more than what we need for that purpose. 544010

First off let me give the hitch a solid 5 star. It is solid and fits with no modifications involved. I used a little dish soap on the hangers and they slid right off my brand new 2017 Explorer. It looks good but does hang lower then the hidden OEM hitch but doesn't stick out as a sore thumb, so I consider this hitch to be well worth the money and would buy again and recommend it to others just read on for my complaint. I also used the CURT Manufacturing 56306 Custom Wiring Harness which was painless install except don't use the enclosed diagram of the plug connections as they don't match the plug color code they have on the plug, the color code works fine just follow the wire color and wire location. I added a 4 wire flat connector to the plug also and used wire ring lugs just in case the wires might vibrate loose. I also used the CURT 58000 Easy-Mount Electrical Bracket to mount the plug assembly which was also painless. I did the install alone and didn't have any problems installing it except for the below. It may help if you have a helping hand to lift and hold the hitch when the time comes to raise it but I had no problems by myself. Now the reason for the 2 stars I gave it. The bolt package is mostly good but the carriage bolts for the muffler brackets are a joke. The nuts are a locking type so they don't work off from vibration. That is well and good but the carriage bolts have a short shoulder, at least on the one's I got so when you try to tighten the nut it doesn't grab the square hole enough to let you tighten it. Hence the carriage bolt turns, I tried everything short of welding the bolt in place and gave up as I didn't have a welder. By this time the truck was torn apart and I had to find a store to get new bolts. Closest store to me, I live in a rural area, was about 1 hour away. Of course try to find a 7/16 carriage bolt, HD doesn't carry them. Next stop Farm Store, no luck there either. So instead of wasting any more time I just bought two 7/16 bolts. They did work in my case as there was clearance between the frame and mounting bracket and I could get a wrench on both sides to tighten to where it needed to be with the supplied nuts, if you go this route take the nuts with you to make sure you get the correct size bolt and the carriage bolt for length. So after a couple hours looking for bolts it took me quite awhile to install because of this. If the carriage bolts supplied would have worked I could have installed it in about 1/2 hour as I had the tools and place to install it. I WOULD ADVISE BEFORE YOU START ESPICALLY IF THIS IS YOU ONLY VEHICLE TO BUY THE BOLTS BEFORE YOU START. YOU WILL NOT KNOW IF THE CARRAGE BOLTS WILL WORK UNTIL YOU TRY TO INSTALL THE RUBBER MUFFLER ISOLATORS/HANGERS. Your vehicle is apart at this stage If the supplied bolts had worked and I didn't have to spend so much time looking for replacement bolts this job could have been done in less time that was stated for installation which is 45 minutes. Like I said a solid 5 stars for the hitch and 1 star for the hardware. 460408

Installed by one person (me) onto a 2011 Explorer Limited. Fit is great, and installation, even with just one person, took about an hour (I have an electric impact wrench which makes it go MUCH faster than with a standard ratchet). Just back your Explorer up onto wheel ramps, and you're good to go. This leaves your floor jack as a handy exhaust support. To hoist the hitch into place, I used the mufflers to support the hitch while I started the bolts into the weld nuts in the frame. You're going to need 18 and 19 mm sockets, and a pry bar or very large screw driver to perform this install. BTW, shipping time was reasonable and eTrailer's post-sale customer service was exceptional. 86711

My drawtite hitch is better than expected. The service from etrailer was great. I called them several times with numerous questions during my product evaluation process. The staff is very knowledgeable and answered all my concerns. I was a bit unsure about the installation and thought about paying a shop to install. When the hitch was shipped, etrailer emailed several installation vids. Upon watching, I figured I could do it. Installation was a piece of cake. My son in law helped providing the extra set of hands. (Thanks Conrad!). I would highly recommend etrailer. 508010

Awesome hitch. Works great for the light/medium trailer that we use to haul our lawnmower, golf cart, etc.. Installed it myself, in our garage, in about 2 hours, with no problems at all. It looks and performs like original equipment from the manufacturer. Highly recommended. 371384

I received my order in less time than the rep that helped me said I would!! Awesome!! The hitch for my 2014 Ford Explorer was clean looking and packaged to prevent damage. I like the fact that the hitch mounted without any problem at all. I searched youtube for instructions on how to install the hitch. I found a video from etrailer that showed step by step install instructions. I will be using the hitch to pull my Kayak trailer and a small lawnmower. The wiring harness installed with just a click and a snap. The only complaint I have is that there should be more and longer zip ties with the kit. 269819

2013 Ford Explorer

Only had it a few days, but already loving it. Some cold weather and non-ideal working angle(see photos) made for an extended install on my '13 explorer base, but install was smooth as can be. Build quality seems second to none. Only thing left is to hook it up and take it for a spin!! Only 1 thing regarding the matching T wiring harness: more zip ties please Thanks guys and gals at etrailer !! 356236

I have not installed the hitch yet but the quality looks great, the finish is nice, and the welds look very smooth. Shipping and communication from etrailer.com have been fabulous. 641698

Heavy chunk of steel. Holes line up well. Finish was good. Fits on car well. The left side mount for the exhaust hanger did not have sufficient adjustment The left muffler touches the hitch and rattles. I’ll have to try to bend something. 641439

Trailer hitch was not difficult to install, lined up perfectly. Viewing the online video made the adequate but brief included instructions more easily understood. Install time was just under an hour with no lift and no help, so very glad I didn't pay a shop to install. Looks great on the Explorer. 638128

The receiver hitch fit exactly as described for my 2017 Ford Explorer. The video showing how to attach the hitch was very good, as was the video showing the assembly of the electrical hookup. The time to assemble was listed as one hour. It took me about 1 1/2 hours. 639224

My son and I put this trailer hitch on without a "hitch". I mean it was very easy and fit exactly the way it should have. All the parts were in the box. No issues. I watched the youtube video by etrailer and that gave us a good picture of what to do and when to do it. Great product! Thank you. 634564

Exact fit. Video for installation was very helpful and guided me exactly on what to do. Hitch looks great and had zero problems installing. Spend the extra few bucks and get the 4way plug holder. The hitch comes with a welder bracket to bolt it on to and it’s worth it. Makes it look professional and obviously holds and stores the 4way connector well. 619927

The e-trailer hitch we purchased was an easy installation onto our Ford Explorer and enabled us to get our bike rack attached and bikes loaded and out of town! Shipping was fast too! Highly recommend this etrailer product! 619340

Easy installation, good quality and fitment. Only issue I ran into was the carriage bolts/lock nuts for the exhaust hangers were difficult to tighten down, otherwise the one man band installed it in about 50 minutes with having to hunt down tools to accommodate said bolts/nuts. 619255

Looks great on the explorer. Was able to watch provided video and install in 1 hour. Did not have a lift. Was able to just lay on garage floor and use jack stands to hold up. Installed just the way the video said. I would recommend etrailer all day. 615936

I was very pleased with the service and help I received from etrailer. The representative that assisted me was very professional and did not try to push a quick sale down my throat. She listened to what I wanted and made sure I didn’t buy a piece I didn’t need. She also informed me about the price guarantee. Everything arrived as ordered and in perfect shape. I will definitely use etrailer again as well as recommend them to friends. Thanks 613618

Excellent trailer hitch. The shipment arrived as scheduled, however the wrong wire harness arrived along with the hitch. I would still be upset about it but Ian at customer service was very helpful in sending me the correct harness right away. 609472

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2017 Ford Explorer with Hands Free Lift Gate Sensor
  • Both the Draw-Tite # 76034 and Curt # C13386 trailer hitch receivers that are designed for your 2017 Ford Explorer will allow the hands free lift gate sensor to work. However, you will need to activate it by putting your foot to the side of the hitch receiver opening with both hitches. The sensors will not recognize your foot through the hitch unfortunately. I've linked videos of both hitches being installed for you. If you're going to be towing a trailer with the Explorer and need...

  • Comparing Trailer Hitches For 2014 Ford Explorer XLT
  • The trailer hitches designed to fit your 2014 Explorer are the Draw-Tite Max Frame, part # 76034, and the Curt, part # C13386, and etrailer.com # E98867. Depending on a couple of comparisons you may decide on one or the other. Both are Class lll hitches and have a 2 inch receiver opening. The Curt hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 400 lbs while the Draw-Tite has a 675 Lb tongue weight capacity. The Draw-Tite has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs while the Curt can tow 4,000 lbs....

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2017 Ford Explorer
  • Yes, Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 76034 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Ford Explorer. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise...

  • I do have the items you will need to tow with your 2016 Ford Explorer but we do not offer complete towing packages. Instead, you will need to purchase the items separately. According to the Ford Trailer Towing Guide, the towing package for the 3.5L V6 engine came with a oil cooler, 7-way trailer connector, and a trailer hitch receiver. The towing package for the 2.5L I4 engine came with a 4-way trailer connector and a trailer hitch receiver. For an oil cooler, I recommend using the Derale...

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver Custom Fit for 2018 Ford Explorer
  • We do not carry any Tyger products so I can't determine what the issue is with their product. I can tell you that there wasn't any redesign as the Draw-Tite # 76034 as well as the Curt # C13386 and the etrailer # e98867 are all confirmed to fit 2011-2019 models. • There is a wiring harness available for your 2015 Ford Explorer but the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 76034 that fits your Explorer does not come with a wiring harness included; it would need to be purchased separately. The wiring harness I recommend for your '15 Explorer is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118540 because it is extremely reliable and very easy to install on your Explorer. All you need to do is plug it into connection points at the rear...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendations for a 2013 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor
  • First, we have had reports that Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" Item # 76034 does fit the 2013 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor model. When adding a 4-Way trailer connector, # HM40285, to the Explorer it does require a direct connection to the vehicle battery so it does have a powered converter. But your Explorer might be factory prewired for a trailer connector. Check under the vehicle for the factory wiring as shown in the video I have linked...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2017 Ford Explorer
  • Hollywood Racks bike racks may not have the most modern of looks but they are solid racks that just get the job down well. For a vehicle that has a spoiler like your 2017 Ford Explorer you won't find a better trunk rack than the Hollywood Racks Over the Top part # HRF2. I attached a demo video for this rack on a similar 2015 Explorer as well. Other option is a hitch bike rack which opens up quite a few different sleek rack options. • Comparing Trailer Hitches for 2018 Ford Explorer
  • The Draw-Tite Class III # 76034, the etrailer.com # e98867, and the Curt # C13386 trailer hitches that are available for your 2018 Ford Explorer all feature an extremely similar design and will mount using the same existing holes on the vehicle's frame. The primary difference between the three models are their weight capacities, which is why I recommend the Draw-Tite # 76034. It features the highest towing capacity of 4,500 pounds and tongue weight limit of 675 pounds, indicating a...
