Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Ram ProMaster 1500

Speaker 1: Today in this 2018 Ram ProMaster 1500, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 75882.Here's what our hitch looks like installed. One great thing about this is hitch, is we have plenty of clearance around our receiver, so it makes it easy to hook up our accessories. Welded onto the side of our receiver, we have a bracket, which we can use to attach any electrical connectors we may have for towing our trailer. We have many different wiring options available for you on website. On the side of our receiver here, you'll find two pin holes. The larger one closer to the front of the vehicle, that is our industry standard 5/8 of an inch diameter hitch pin hole to secure hitch-mounted accessories. You can pick up a pin and clip on our website separately as part number PC3.

The smaller hole closest to the rear, that's for a J-pin stabilization device. What that does is take away the annoying shake, play and rattle out of what is inserted into your receiver. We have one of those available separately as well.On the bottom of our receiver is our safety chain plate, is welded on and is a very large diameter opening on it which makes it easy to hook up even the largest safety chain hooks such as this one. Clip on nice and easily and we still have plenty of room. Makes it easy to remove it as well.On the back of our receiver, you'll find this collar that's welded on to give us a nice finished look and to help improve the strength at the opening. This hitch features a 750 pound max tow weight rating which is the amount forcing down and a 6000 pound max gross trailer weight rating which is the amount it can pull.

It does support the use of weight distribution and when you are using that on your trailer, the tongue weight rating stays the same at 750 pounds, but the max gross trailer weight rating increases to 7500 pounds. You want to make sure you consult with the owner's manual of your Promaster and not exceed what the vehicle is rated for. What I really like about this hitch compared to others on the market for it, is that even though it is not concealed behind our bumper beam, it is a very functional hitch. Not only having large amount of clearance around our receiver opening, the large safety chain loops are really easy to use and having the attachment point for any electrical connections, is also really nice. You don't have to worry about finding a place to mount your wiring harnesses if you want to tow a trailer. Now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch-mounted accessories, such as a ball mount, bike rack or a cargo carrier, you're looking at about 17 inches from the ground to the top of the 2 inch receiver opening and about 3.5 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the remotest part of the back bumper. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we went ahead and removed our spare tire.

Now since we need to remove our bumper cover in order to install our hitch, if your vehicle is equipped with rear parking sensors that are built into the bumper, you'll need to disconnect those. You can find a harness for that on the passenger's side of your vehicle right at the very corner of the bumper. So we'll pull this away from the bumper cover and we have access to our connector now. We'll lift up on this tab and pull to separate. Now we'll remove the lower screws that hold our bumper cover in place. There's four of these, they are T30 torques.

There's one here, here, here and here. Now we'll open our back doors. Now we'll remove the four T30 torque screws on the top. Now we can take our bumper cover and pull it off. Now we have a couple rubber grommets to remove. We'll have two at the center behind our bumper beam. Use a flathead screwdriver and get behind it and it'll pop out. Now we'll take our 7/16 pull wire, one of our blocks, stick it on the wire and we'll thread on a 7/16 carriage bolt. Stick the bolt inside the hole where our grommet was, followed by the block and we'll leave the pull wire in this position here. We'll do the same for the other hole. Now we have a grommet on each one of our frame rails right behind our rear leaf spring hanger, remove these, using our flathead screwdriver. Now we'll take our half inch diameter pull wire, our block and our half inch bolt, thread that on. We'll stick the bolt through the hole where the plug was, same with our block and remove the pull wire on this one. We'll do the same for the other side. Now we'll take our round hole spacer blocks and we'll apply some black silicone on it which we have available on our website, and we'll use this to hold it in place. That way, we don't have to worry about it falling as we are raising our hitch into position and we'll place this around our half inch diameter bolt at the very back. Now with an extra set of hands, we'll raise our hitch into position. We'll start on our passenger side going over our leaf spring with the forward part of the hitch. We'll slide it all the way forward that we can and we'll get the backside over on the driver's side and then we'll pull back. Now we'll take our pull wires in the back and we'll feed 'em through the proper holes in our hitch and we'll raise the hitch up and secure it into place. On the back of it with conical tooth washers with the teeth facing towards the hitch and a nut. With our hitch secure on both sides, we'll now pull our pull wires with the bolts through the hitch. We'll remove our pull wires now, place our conical tooth washer on and then we'll thread on our nut. Do the same to the other pull wire. Now we can take our handle nut, insert it above our hitch into the frame rail, line up the handle nut hole with the hole in the hitch and the frame rail and we'll bolt and do it with our conical tooth washer on our bolt. With all of our hardware now in place, we can tighten it down. Now we'll torque all of our hardware to the amount specified in the instructions. Now we can reinstall our bumper cover. We'll make sure to plug back in our backup sensors if our vehicle has them and as you can see, this hitch even works great with the full-size spare tire in place. That completes our look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 75882 on this 2018 Ram ProMaster 1500.

Hitch arrived 2 days after placing order, UPS battered the box but everything was ok. Solo install took about 11/2 hrs including a coffee break and searching for a different wrench, Having help would definatly make install easier but not required. Only issue I ran into was getting a torque wrench between the rear bumper and the hitch. 480948

2hr install fairly straightforward. Biggest issue was removing spare tire from seized carrier 359020

I’m giving 3 stars because this hitch is really nice, the instructional video was helpful. I would have had it fully installed in an hour BUT the hardware kit had 3) 1/4 blocks (supposed to have 2), 1) 5/8 block (supposed to have 2) and only 1 5/8 nut and washer. I had to make 2 trips to the hardware store and spend time modifying a block. That was very disappointing and a waste of time. Quality Control the hardware supply and this is a 5 Star piece. 529951

Good and sturdy product. Mounts as instructions say. Definitely takes 2 people to do unless you have something to support it in a couple areas. Otherwise, pleased with product and etrailer.com. 405658

Installed by myself in about 45mins after watching the instruction videos. Biggest issue was getting the spare tire out. After figuring out how to get the first bolt + plate fished into the truck frame the rest were easy. Had to find some English sockets. I picked up a Curt Class III Ball Mount with 2" Ball & Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Connector to complete the setup. 628347

Excellent install easy and directions are straight forward. Careful you don't insert carriage bolts with holiding spring in too deep-one went arop the leaf perch housing and took a while to get it back. Wiring kit and online video were right on. To install used reciever extender and c clamped to floor jack with the cup removed- no hassle and no struggling to position after this. 139662

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch For 2016 Ram Promaster 2500 Truck
  • Unless you exceeded the weight capacity of the Curt hitch you said you have, the hitch should not have bent as you mentioned. First I recommend making sure you are within the limits of your truck and also of the hitch you are using. We do have a Draw-Tite Max Frame trailer hitch, part # 75882. This hitch has a 750-lb tongue weight capacity and a 6,000-lb towing capacity. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. I recommend having the frame of your truck checked...

  • The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Round Tube Receiver Hitch # 75882 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit the 2015 Dodge ProMaster 2500, as long as it is not the EXT model. This Draw-Tite Hitch does provide the highest tongue weight capacity of 750 pounds and towing capacity of 6,000 pounds available for trailer hitches confirmed to fit this vehicle. I have attached an installation video on a 2014 ProMaster 2500 for you to check out. This trailer hitch does not include a wiring...

This hitch should take only about half as long to install as the Draw-Tite # 75882, about a half hour or so, plus it is USA-made. An installation video showing a ProMaster 2500 is linked for you along with a picture of a completed install. If you need a 4-pole wiring harness I recommend Tekonsha's custom kit # 118618 which is mostly...

  • Recommended Adjustable Ball Mount for a 2014 Ram ProMaster 1500 with a 2 Hitch Receiver
  • Choosing an adjustable ball mount is a great idea for when you have multiple towing applications. Since the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75882 for your 2014 Ram ProMaster 1500 (non-EXT model) has a 2" hitch receiver you will (obviously) need to choose one that is compatible with a 2 inch hitch receiver. Ultimately you will need to choose a ball mount that is able to keep your trailer level. To determine what height you need you will need to measure (on level ground) from...

  • For your 2014 Ram ProMaster 2500 we do offer several Class III hitch fits that can be seen on the linked page. These are all fits for the base truck as long as it is not the EXT model. However, with a Knapheide KUV (utility vehicle) body installed the fit becomes unclear since neither Curt, Hidden Hitch nor Draw-Tite have tested their hitch fits with the truck when it has an aftermarket body installed. You can take a look at the installation instructions for the various hitches that...

You might be able to make it work at the back but I can't guarantee it. There aren't any electric options that will work.
