Today we're going to be taking a look at a panel lock slam latch. A slam latch is ideal for doors, drawers, truck and trailer bodies, construction, farm equipment and all aircraft applications. Slam latches are very versatile and can be used for many different applications. The latch does offer nice, easy operation as well as secure closure. The square shape of the spring over the square pin helps ensure a perfect seamless operation. The unit's constructed of a steel construction, and that's going to be zinc plates, so it's going to offer a really good resistance from rust and corrosion. You'll notice on this end it's got the rubber handle.
That is secured on the pin with adhesive. That's going to prevent the handle from slipping off and that handle simply provides a nice easy ripped design which makes the latch very easy to control and operate. A few measurements real quick starting with the body. Overall length measuring edge to edge of just that body portion is going to be 2 inches that direction. Going this direction edge to edge is 1 5/8 of an inch. The pin itself from very end to very end gave us a measurement of about 3 3/4 of an inch long.
When it comes to the square measurement, that's 7/16 by 7/16 of an inch. The extension, that's how far the pin extends from the body on this side out to the furthest out point is 3/4 of an inch. The mount holes on this unit side to side this direction are separated on center by 1 1/8. Going this direction they're separated on center by an inch and a quarter. From the mounting surface to the top of the housing measured 13/16 of an inch tall.
Mount hole diameters, that's going to measure 3/16 of an inch each one. Mounting hardware is not included. That's going to do it for today's look at the panel lock slam latch.

The latch was exactly what I needed for my project, a child’s safety gate. It latches easily when closing and requires a pull to open, easy for an adult while keeping the young ones safely contained.

Used on rolling drawers in my truck bed. They are very sturdy and durable. The finish is good and the spring is fairly smooth, but it does require regular lubrication in order to be dependable.
These are great. I cut/modified them to use as latches for a truck canopy that are no longer available. The original plastic ones lasted 20 years, these should last 100. Very happy.
