The RetraxPRO MX opens and closes with a pop-up locking handle that slides easily along sealed ball-bearing rollers. There are no straps, snaps, or hinges to fight with, and it doesn’t need lubrication to stay smooth. You can secure it at any point along the rails to cover part of the bed while hauling taller gear in the back, or retract it fully in seconds for complete bed access. When rolled up, it stores neatly inside a canister with a spiral track system that keeps the slats from rubbing against each other and wearing out.

Built from 1-inch-thick, impact-resistant aluminum panels, this cover can handle 500 lbs of evenly distributed weight on top. It shrugs off dents, heavy snow, falling branches, and road debris. The matte black finish is scratch-resistant and won’t fade in the sun, so it keeps its clean look even after years outdoors. The rugged build makes it just as ready for jobsite hauling as it is for year-round weather protection.

When closed, the RetraxPRO MX turns the bed into a locked compartment. The flat, concealed locking handle sits flush and sealed under a protective lid to keep dirt and moisture out of the keyhole. Once latched, the cover can’t be lifted or cut open, and it works independently of the tailgate—so you can open one without touching the other. With the tailgate locked, your cargo stays hidden and protected from theft and the elements.

Weather stripping and foam seals run along all sides to keep moisture, snow, and dust out. The cover overlaps the top of the tailgate to stop water from sneaking in at the back. Inside the canister, two drain tubes route any collected water through factory bed holes, so it doesn’t pool or cause mildew. Whether it’s rain, wash water, or melting snow, the system keeps everything under the cover dry and clean.

The side rails mount just 1 inch above the bed for a sleek, low-profile fit that lines up evenly with the canister and tailgate. Installation is straightforward—no drilling required. The rails clamp to the bed edges with included hardware and stay square without fuss. Once it’s in place, you get a flush fit that looks factory and doesn’t take up extra space in the bed.

After about a year owning this cover, I still would buy it again. If you set it up right in the first place, it will work flawlessly. The locking mechanism still works great. The rolling part still works great. Aside from a solid cover, this is the most secure cover I have ever had. It does get some drips of water inside after washing the truck but its not enough to worry about, even if you had a bed full of stuff.

So on the plus side, love how it opens all the way up. When were loading the bed for travel, I need it fully open. Downside is the amount of room the canister takes up and the water as previously mentioned. Still quite easy to use!

Install looks great Jesse! We couldn’t agree more about the instructions. Honestly, unclear instructions are exactly why we started making our own install videos many moons ago, because seeing it done can make all the difference. It’s good to hear the cover feels solid and slides smoothly once installed. Your notes on water sealing and debris are fair, especially with RamBox-equipped beds and tailgate fitment. We appreciate you sharing your experience, and we hope it continues to serve you well over time.
