Video Transcript for Curt Fifth Wheel Installation Kit C16437 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Curt custom fifth wheel bracket kit for the Ford trucks. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 1997 to 2004 Ford F150 and F250 light duty trucks with either the six and a half foot bed or the eight food bed. On any custom fit part I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle. It will show you if this part will work for your application. Now these custom brackets will mount beneath your truck bed.

They provide the attachment points for your fifth wheel base rails to attach to. Now the base rails, it does require the Curt base rails. We do sell those separately on our website. It's part number either C16104 or also C16204. Now these brackets right here, this is what will provide the custom fit by mounting to existing holes in your vehicle's frame. Because of that it will minimize the amount of drilling that's required, and it cuts your installation time in half when compared with the universal bracket kits.

Now this part includes everything shown here on the table, the two mounting brackets, all the mounting hardware needed to install it and a nice set of detailed instructions. Now when this part is used with the Curt base rails, it's compatible with the BMW, Curt, Demco, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley fifth wheel hitches. That should do it for the review on the Curt custom fifth wheel bracket kit for the Ford trucks.

  • Can A Fifth Wheel Be Installed On A 2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew With A 5.5 Foot Bed
I called Curt on the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, # C16437-104, and they said that they do not recommend using this kit on a 2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew with the 5.5 foot bed, because of clearance problems. We do not recommend to install a fifth wheel hitch on a 2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew with the 5.5 foot bed. You have to use a Sidewinder with a standard hitch, which moves the pivot point back 22 inches toward the tailgate. Even with the Sidewinder installed on your vehicle you...

  • Does Curt E16 Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch 16516 Fit Curt Base Rails
Yes, the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16437-204 is compatible with Curt E16 Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch # 16516. Install kit # C16437-204 is a custom fit for your 2002 Ford F-150 and will minimize the drilling and time it takes to install in your truck. The E16 5th Wheel Hitch # 16516 is a sliding fifth wheel hitch with a towing capacity of 16,000 lbs which has a dual-pivoting head to make hook-up a simpler process. I've added links below to video reviews of these parts for...

  • Recommended Base Rails for RBW Lil Rocker 5th Wheel Hitch on 2003 Ford F-150
Your existing RBW Lil Rocker 5th Wheel Hitch is compatible with industry standard, above-bed base rails. With this in mind, I recommend going with a set of custom rails like the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16437-204. This base rail kit features custom brackets that will use existing holes in your truck's frame to minimize drilling during installation. They are confirmed to fit your 2003 Ford F-150 and will work nicely with your Lil Rocker 5th Wheel Hitch. Since you do have...

  • Can 2002 Ford F-150 Short Bed Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
Looks like your 2002 Ford F-150 has a shorter than usual truck bed. Can you get me the length of it? We only have fifth wheel options for your truck for 6-1/2 foot and 8 foot but yours appears to be shorter than that. If you have a 6-1/2 foot bed you'd want a slider hitch like the Curt A16 Hitch part # C16521 with a set of custom install fifth wheel rails like the part # C16437-204 which are confirmed for your truck. The custom install kits install in much less time than the universal...

  • Installing 5th Wheel Rail Kit in 2000 Ford F-150 Without Frame Drilling
For your 2000 Ford F-150 you can use the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50042-58 or the Curt # C16437-204 for your industry standard 5th wheel base rails. These will not require drilling into your truck frame for installation because the brackets will utilize holes already in the factory frame. If you already have the rails, then you can use the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Bracket Kit # C16437 for the frame brackets.

  • What Hardware is Included with the Reese Universal 5th Wheel Trailer Installation Kit
Thread pitch is moot because the matching nuts are included. The parts break down for the hardware included in the universal kit is in the instructions which I have linked for you. If your truck is a SuperCrew model the Universal installation kit # RP30035 is not a fit. There are custom kits available for a short or long bed. You can use Curt custom kit # C16437-104. I have linked its instructions as well. The brackets in the custom kit are custom designed to fit your truck so there is...

  • 5th Wheel Installation Kit for a 1997 Ford F-150 Short Bed and Valley Glider Hitch
It looks like your Valley 5th wheel hitch installs in industry standard above the bed rails. For your 1997 Ford F-150 short bed you can use Curt custom installation kit # C16437-204. Using this kit means that you will not have to drill into the truck frame for installation. And the rails will accept a Valley hitch that fits in above the bed rails. You can also use the universal kit # RP30035 but drilling into the truck frame is required. It will not fit if you have a SuperCrew model.

  • 5th Wheel Rail Kit for a Curt 5th Wheel Hitch in a 2001 Ford F-150 Short Bed
For your 2011 Ford F-150 with 6-1/2 foot bed you can use 5th wheel rail kit # C16437-204. The Curt E16 hitch # C16115 will fit but it is a fixed hitch. Short bed trucks require a slider hitch unless the trailer is very narrow or has a tapered front cap designed to be towed by a short bed truck. Otherwise the trailer can make contact with the truck cab when making tight turns. The slider version of the E16 hitch is # 16516.

To add a set of 5th wheel rails and brackets to a 1997 Ford F-150 super cab, I recommend the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit item # C16437-204. This kit is custom fit and installs in existing holes in your trucks frame. These rails have a carbide black finish and are compatible with Curt 5th wheel hitches. Something to note from Curt, you will not be able to use the lowest setting on your sliding hitch with this rail kit or any of the available rail kits. To make towing with...

This install kit will give you base rails so you can mount the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # 16516. These rails fit 1997-2004 Ford F150 and F250 trucks with a 6-1/2 foot bed or 8 foot bed. If your Ford is newer, The Curt rails part # C16441-204 are custom fit for 2004-2014 Ford F150 trucks. Yes the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16437-204 is a confirmed fit for your 2003 Ford F-150 with the 6.5' bed. It works great with most fifth wheel sliding hitches that use the industry standard bed rails like the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider part # C16521. The use of a sliding hitch is recommended with the shorter bed to pervent the fifth wheel from making contact with the cab of your F-150. Most folks want to have a wiring connector in the bed of...

Curt has a fifth wheel rail kit that fits your 1997 Ford F-250 Light Duty with the part # C16437-204 which is a custom kit that will require minimal drilling but the two part numbers you mentioned are not correct for your truck. For your specific truck I recommend these: Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ford F150 and F250 - Carbide Finish # C16437-204. They are an ISR, industry standard rail, that most brands will fit into. If you do not already have a 7 way connector in the bed of your truck, I recommend the following one from Curt. Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Connector - 7' Long # C56070.

  • 5th Wheel Mounting Rail Kit for 1997 Ford F-150
You were on the right track with the Reese Universal Base Rails # RP30035 ! This kit will mount to the frame of your truck and works on both the 6-1/2 foot and 8 foot beds on the F-150. This kit will provide you with a set of bed rails to install any 5th wheel hitch that mounts into the industry standard 5th wheel rails- the only drawback is that there is some drilling required for this kit. For that reason you may instead want to go with the Curt Custom Installation kit # C16437-204 which...

  • Fifth Wheel Slider Hitch Recommendation for 2002 Ford F-150 Short Bed
Reese does not offer their Elite style of under-bed rails for your 2002 Ford F-150 so you wouldn't be able use the Elite slider hitch you mentioned in your truck. You'd need to use an above-bed style of slider hitch like the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR. So for a rail kit to fit your truck you'd then want the Curt rail kit part # C16437-204 which is a custom fit for your truck and will also fit your rail kit.

  • Can I Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2002 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 Foot Bed
I'll start by saying that we do not recommend that you install a fifth wheel hitch on a 2002 Ford F-150 with the 5-1/2 foot bed. You would have to use a Sidewinder pin box with a standard hitch, which moves the pivot point back 22 inches toward the tailgate; and even with the Sidewinder installed on your vehicle you will not get enough clearance between the truck cab and your fifth wheel when making a 90 degree turn. We recommend at least 4 inches of clearance and with the Sidewinder it...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for a 2002 Ford F-150 SuperCrew
Are you talking about a Crew Cab or a SuperCrew cab? If you are talking about the SuperCrew cab with the 5-1/2 foot bed then you can install Curt installation kit # C16437-204. On the 5-1/2 foot beds you will need to use Demco HiJacker 5th wheel hitch # DM8550040 because it has 22-1/2 inches of travel for greater clearance when making tight turns. On the super short beds you will need as much clearance as you can get to avoid hitting the trailer against the truck cab.

  • Will Curt Universal 5th Wheel Install Kit Fit a 2002 Ford F-150
Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16116 comes with a universal installation kit and that kit does fit your 2002 Ford F-150. If you would rather go with a custom installation kit you can use # C16437-204 with hitch # C16115. Custom installation kits are easier to install and require less drilling for installation.

While there are no custom brackets available for your truck, you can use a universal kit, like the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP30035 or the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit # C16100. There is a Husky fifth wheel rail kit available for your 2000 Ford F-150 short bed, part # HT31409-686. But since this is a universal fit kit I wouldn't recommend it as your best choice. Instead I would recommend a custom fit rail kit that will minimize drilling and install time when compared to a universal kit. For that you would want the # C16437-204 which is a confirmed fit for your truck and can work with Husky fifth wheel hitches.
