The RetraxPRO XR gives you serious flexibility with its built-in accessory T-slots along the side rails. You can mount T-slot-compatible racks from Yakima, Thule, or Rhino Rack to haul bikes, kayaks, or skis above the bed while keeping your tools and cargo secure underneath. The Trax Rail System doesn’t interfere with the retractable cover at all, so you keep full use of the bed whether the cover is open or closed. It’s an ideal setup for anyone who wants to stack and organize gear without sacrificing protection.

Keeping your gear safe on the go is easy thanks to the pop-up locking handle. It lets you secure the cover anywhere along the rails—half open to shield smaller gear up front or fully closed for maximum protection. When locked and paired with a closed tailgate, the 1" thick aluminum slats make it nearly impossible to pry open or cut through. The handle sits flat and hidden under a weather-guarded lid that keeps out dirt and moisture, so the lock won’t stick over time.

Heavy lifting and bulky folding panels aren’t needed here. The RetraxPRO XR glides open and closed on sealed ball-bearing rollers—no springs, snaps, or Velcro to fuss with, and no lubrication required. The spiral track inside the canister keeps the panels from rubbing together, preventing wear as they retract. You get instant access to your full bed, and when rolled up, the cover disappears neatly into a small angled canister that leaves room underneath for long items.

Made from heavy-duty aluminum slats that are 1" thick, this cover is built to take abuse from weather or debris without bending or cracking. It supports up to 500 lbs of evenly distributed weight—strong enough for snow loads or gear stacked on top. Weather stripping and foam seals around every side keep out rain, dust, and grit, while drain tubes in the canister route away any collected water. The matte black finish stands up to sun and scratches while keeping a clean, low-profile look.

With side rails that rise just 1" above the bed and a flush-mounted locking handle, the RetraxPRO XR blends in for a streamlined look. The cover overlaps the tailgate for a tight seal that blocks out debris and keeps cargo clean. Even with its sleek shape, it leaves enough clearance for many fifth-wheel setups or tall cargo underneath—making it one of those rare covers that’s both tough and good-looking without getting in your way.

Hi, Matt here with etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at the RetraxPro XR line of hard tonneau covers. You want to use our fit guide here in etrailer to make sure you're getting the right fit for your truck. Now this is gonna be a great option for you if you're looking for something that's gonna help keep the things in the back of your bed protected from the elements or if you wanna save one some extra gas and you want something that's gonna be custom fit. So let's check it out. So the tonneau cover we're gonna have today is gonna be retractable canister style. So what that means is it's just gonna roll up into itself and save you on a lot of space.
We're also gonna have an aluminum construction with a matte black finish to it. And what's nice about that aluminum construction is it's gonna be very durable and strong as compared to if you had any soft covers. If you had a soft covered tonneau cover, then someone could come by, just cut it open and access whatever you had in your bed. In our case today, this is gonna have the ability to lock so no one will be able to open up your tonneau cover. And if you have a locking tailgate like we do, then no one will be able to access any of it.
But let's open up so we can take a closer look at it. So to do that we're gonna have this box right here. This is gonna have a door on top of it. When you remove that door, you'll notice we have that lock core. That's what I was talking about earlier about this being able to lock.
And with it in the unlocked position, you can just press this button, it's gonna release your tonneau cover, and you'll have the ability to slide this back. Now in some cases, if you don't want to pull it all the way back, you just wanna pull it some, you would actually close this back down until it clicks into place and it'll lock it in this position. The reason why you might want that is you might have something that you want to access a lot. Something like if you had to tote right here, try to get some tools out of here, but you have other items in the back that you don't want getting wet or being out in the elements. And the way that this rolls is pretty smooth.
We're gonna have some ball bearings that go along this track on the inside that just slide right down until it goes all the way back to the canister. And what I also do like about this is we don't have any hinges or anything like that that can get gunked up over time or get damaged. So since this just rolls into place, you don't have to worry about a lot of extra things breaking. Continuing on with the rails, they're gonna sit up just about an inch on the back of our bed, which isn't bad at all. It's actually pretty low profile for how like robust and sturdy they are. And something that really sets it apart is that we're gonna have this T channel that runs through either the side of our rails. So what that T channel's gonna allow you to do is mount up any accessories or if you wanna put anything up like ladder racks or bed racks and you still want to use your tonneau cover, you're gonna have that ability and it's still gonna be compatible with a lot of our more popular brands on our website. You probably noticed when we're opening up our tonneau cover, we have this 5th wheel back here. That might be a concern of you if you have anything like that back here. And the total height that the 5th wheel we have today is gonna be a little bit less than 20 inches and we still have clearance to open up our tonneau cover. Now let's check out our canister. So like I was talking about earlier, what's nice about this is it doesn't take up a lot of room up behind our cab, so it's not blocking anything, but it is gonna take up a little bit of room in your bed. So we get some measurements. The first measurement I'm gonna get is gonna be the total length it adds, and that's gonna be about 13-1/2 inches in your bed. So the bed we have today is about 6-3/4 feet long. So you're gonna lose about a foot. Now the feature of the canister is it's gonna have a spiral design. So what that means is the way it rolls up into itself is it's not gonna making contact the entire time. So you don't have to worry about it rubbing against itself, making some wear and tear over time. And at the bottom we're gonna have some drain holes. You'll notice we'll have a tube that runs down. You're gonna have two of those in total. So the reason why we want to have drain tubes on our tonneau cover is because it's gonna prevent any water from pooling up inside and provide that water to run through so we don't have any rusting from occurring. Another thing that's gonna keep water out of here is gonna be our weather strips. We're gonna have one on the back of our canister so you don't have to worry about any water coming into your bed. Another area we're gonna have a weather strip is gonna be on our rails right underneath here, so you don't have to worry about water pooling up underneath them either. What's also really nice is this isn't gonna require any drilling for at least mounting it onto your vehicle. We're gonna be using these clamps. There's gonna be four in total, but it's just gonna grab on to these rails and your bed rails and secure it into place. But when you're ready to go, roll this out, just make sure it's unlocked and just pull it out. It shouldn't be very hard if you measured everything right and just make sure to lock it back up so it doesn't roll out on you. Overall, I think it's gonna be a great option for you if you are looking for something that's gonna be very secure where people won't be able to access underneath it and you're looking for something robust, sturdy, it's gonna have a clean finish to it too. And the fact that it's able to work with ladder racks and bed racks up to 500 pounds, it's gonna be great because you'll be able to load this up with a lot of items. If you are doing that, just make sure you check what your vehicle is capable of hauling. You can find that in your owner's manual. And your ladder racks and bed racks just make sure you know how much that can handle too. And that completes our look at the RetraxPro XR line of hard tonneau covers. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed review RAMDaddy! I would say you definitely got your moneys worth on your last one with the 10 years of use! And valid points on the new cover, it does stink that the canister takes up so much room, but it is still a really nice cover. I hope you get 10 years plus out of this new one =)

Had this on my truck for over a year, outside in the elements every day and it still looks brand new. The finish is tough and durable. It rolls open and closed with ease and the locking mechanism is free and smooth. Couldnt be happier with it.
