The V-bar studs on each cross chain of these heavy-duty, twist-link snow chains bite into frozen roads to give you excellent traction in deep snow and ice. Also ideal for mud. Built-in cam tighteners make fitting and tightening the chains a snap.

Features:

  • Provides excellent traction in deep snow and ice
    • V-Bar-style twist links are studded to bite into surfaces
    • Ladder pattern provides good traction as you drive forward
    • Cross chains are twisted for additional traction
  • Installs easily with integrated, heavy-duty lever
    • Side cams provide effortless tightening - twist cams to pull chain taut around tire
    • Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended for a tight fit
  • Constructed of low-carbon steel for durability
  • Works on either front- or rear-wheel-drive vehicles

Specs:

  • Fits: 15" - 19-1/2" tires (for exact sizes, see below)
  • Quantity: 2 chains
  • 90-Day warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if chains might affect your ABS/ESP functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are outstanding in serious winter conditions because the V-bar studs can bust through intense ice and packed snow. So, you'll be able to get to work and back home again even in the toughest weather. You can also use them if you ever go off-roading and end up in a mud-digging situation. These chains are going to help give your vehicle purchase to pull out and keep moving.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new snow chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. These will cause damage to your garage floor and paved driveway. If you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These can cause damage to your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing tire chains is easy.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Cross chain connections should have the prongs facing away from the tire

2. Drape the chains over your tire, ensuring that the v-bar studs face away from the tire.

Connect chains on the back and front of the tire

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire, then clamp the lever to fasten extra chain links and keep them from flapping as you drive.

Use tool to tighten cams on the sidewall chains

4. Insert the included tool into the cam and twist to tighten the sidewall chain. Twist as many cams as it takes to get a tight fit.

Rubber adjusters ensure a tight fit

5. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. Tighten any loose cams. If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

2011 Toyota Tacoma

I wanted rear-wheel chains for my 2011 Tacoma that would provide excellent traction. I already have V-bars on all four wheels of my ATV and it is impossible to get that thing stuck when I plow snow; so, I bought these. I have low-profile chains for the front wheels (to prevent from hitting the upper control arm) and with these rear-wheel V-bars, I really get the traction that I need. I drove around in a snow-covered field on the side of a hill and they work great! The cam tighteners are really convenient; but, I use rubber adjusters as a precaution. No stopping me now!

I have had these chains for one year now and they are still doing the job! I am able to install the chains, adjust the cam tighteners and put on the rubber chain tighteners without moving the vehicle. This is important if you happen to be stuck. It was a good investment.

In very happy with my new tire chains. The chains are well built and the quality shows.

by:

I put a pair of claw chains on the rear of my dually dump to plow with. They where great I never got stuck and had great traction on my private road which is a dirt road.

1993 Ford Ranger

Shipping was amazingly fast. I tried out the chains on the Ford Ranger. They went on easily and I could tighten them quickly. A lot better than the old style chains without cams that I could never get fully tight. I was happy that the size was correct as we have 265/75/15 size tires on the Ranger.
We need the studded chains as we have a half mile asphalt driveway with some steep slopes. The v-bar chains allows us to go up and down even when the driveway is a sheet of ice, which happens often as we live in south western Wisconsin.

The product quality look very good. I'll see how it wears through the season. So far, the experience of ordering and installing has been excellent.

by:

The tire chains go on easy with a little practice and warm thin gloves.
Haven't had to use them much but am ready for the La Nina winter in PNW - let it snow!

Thankfully we have only needed to use these on our Ford E350 diesel 12-passenger rear-wheel drive van a couple of times, yet they were awesome when we did need them! The peace of mind for my family's safety is priceless.

Paula did a great job at communicating and making sure I got my tire chains quickly. Great product and great customer service. Already have recommended to many people. Keep up the great work!

Exactly what I wanted, at a reasonable price. Haven’t used them in the snow yet, but I have test fit and drove around neighborhood. They went on well, I especially like the cam tensioners around the front.

These tire chains for my 2017 GMC 2500 (20” wheels) perfectly. They did great in the snow and allowed me to pull an enclosed trailer to my cabin, which I couldn’t have done without these chains on my truck. Thanks etrailer for the fitment video specific to my truck! Very helpful

by:

Completely eliminated getting stuck. Plowing my place and down into the lower field the truck used to get stuck, just spinning on the ice, since installing the Vbar chains we are able to push the snow right down into the lower field without getting stuck

I ordered 2 sets (4 chains total) of these tire chains for my V10 F250, which I use to plow a private dirt driveway on the north side of a mountain in rural Pennsylvania. It's two miles (actual odometer reading) uphill to the paved road from my house. Most years, along about February, the road ices up (because no sun and midatlantic sleet issues) and plowing becomes quite challenging. I figured getting tire chains might help the traction-on-ice problem. I plow the road between 10 and 15 mph, with the truck in 4wd. Since buying the chains I have run the truck up and back the road approximately twenty times with the chains on, plowing from 4 to 8 inches of snow, conducting rollbacks of shoulder, chopping up slush, etc. I have also used the truck (with chains) to pull out two other stuck vehicles that had run into ditches. At this point I feel like I can review the product because I've used 'em enough to have an opinion. 1. These tire chains add a lot of traction on ice. A lot. Enough to plow with and enough to pull out stuck vehicles while the "tow" vehicle is sitting on ice. 2. The chains look fine and are undamaged at this juncture. Since I've used them consistently with how I expect them to be used and they are fine, I'm happy with quality at this point. 3. Maybe I will improve with practice, but it's about thirty minutes of twinking around to get these straightened out, on the truck, tightened up, bungee'd, etc. in a way that I feel OK about driving with them. (That's why 4 stars instead of 5.) Once they're on, they seem to stay put fairly effectively. I do not drive on paved roads with these chains nor do I drive faster than (max) 20 mph so I can't speak to how they might do under those circumstances. I use them for additional traction for my plow truck while plowing my iced-up dirt road... and for that, they work as advertised.

by:

These are really nice chains. I can usually get them all on with tensioners in about 10 minutes. Very simple to hook up. Another set of chains I have had used the so called "quick connect" with a huge piece that sticks out and causes concern for rubbing against brake lines and these do not have that and are way quicker to put on. I would definitely buy these chains again.

by:

These are a complete waste of money. Bought them last year and only used them once, they seemed to work fine. I didn’t need them for the rest of the winter. This year, on their 3rd use the cam tightener tool broke, really cheap metal. On their 4th use (needing a screwdriver and wrench to tighten the cams) they completely fell apart. 3 cross links broke on one chain, plus the outside latch fell off. Other chain seems fine which I don’t understand. Bottom line is after 4 uses totaling less than 30 miles, these chains are toast and I feel like an idiot for having purchased them...

by:

These are great chains and easy to install. I haven't had to use them much. The Cam Tighteners are an essential feature. You put the chains on loosely, then use the cam tighteners to cinch them down. You should also buy some form of rubber chain tightener to pull then outer ring together as you drive. I used the star type. You don't want the chain to be loose and whack your wheel well. I have a Tahoe with AT tires and the spacing inside the wheel well is small. These chains worked well.

by:

These chains Broke 3 cross straps the 1st time I used them within 10 minutes of putting them on. I purchase 2 pairs I will be returning you're returning the pair that is in jacket and requesting a full refund for all. I even used the rubber chain tighteners on the outside of my wheels these chains wrapped around my rear axle and damaged my brake linesIf you are looking for heavy duty chains do not buy these

by:

This product was amazing it worked very well .
They are easy to install and they are easy to remove. they make plowing my driveway so much easier because I have a couple of low spots that fill with water and turn to ice and with these chains I have not gotten stuck would highly recommend them to anybody they also work well going down tote roads when I'm ice fishing. 5 Stars

by:

Had trouble getting out to get wood, a good amount of snow and ice underneath. Put on the chains and the old truck walked right through. We'll see how they hold up but I am very satisfied.

by:

They look and feel heavy duty. I haven't used them yet but I did install them to check for fit. Installation is a bit trickier than what's shown in the video. I found it easier to lay them behind the rear tire and back up over them for a short distance. I really like the cam tensioners you just have to twist as many as it takes to gain the correct tension over the tire.

There are chains available which will work for you but the Glacier V-Bar # PWH2821SC are not confirmed to fit 265/75-16 tires. Instead you would need the Glacier V-Bar part # PWH2828SC; these are confirmed to fit your 265/75-16 tires and also have ice cleats and cam locks like the chains you referenced. The Glacier V-Bar Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tighteners, # PWH2821SC, has cam tighteners just on the front of the chains. In order for the chains to fit properly, you would cinch up each cam and not leave any loose. The chains are 5.95mm thick. I recommend checking your vehicle owners manual to determine if chains can be used and if there are any restrictions. I have included a link to our tire chain FAQ for reference.

Although it cannot be seen in the photo, each adjuster has a small slot in the center that the blade of a large flat head screwdriver would fit into. Once the chains are in place with all 4 adjusters in the open position, you can insert the screwdriver into each slot and twist the adjuster into the closed position. The more adjusters you close, the tighter the chain will be.

The rubber adjusters are attached to the side of the snow chains to keep tension on the snow chains. While we do have some great off-road tire chains with V-bar studs, we do not have any that also have cam tighteners like the # PWH2821SC. This is because all tire chains with cam tighteners are not rated for off-road use due to the construction.
