Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.
To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.
We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this 1-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for your 6,000 pound trailer axle. Now this double-eye leaf spring is going to act as part of your trailer suspension system by providing an attachment point for your 6,000 pound axle. And it is made of sturdy steel construction and this is designed to flex to absorb that road shock and give you a smooth ride, reducing wear and tear on your trailer. And this is also going to ensure a level ride on bumpy and uneven surfaces.
Now this is a double-eye leaf spring and this is going to attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of the spring will attach directly to the hangar with a suspension bolt and the other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hangar. And these straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem or triple axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs. But if you do need hangar suspension bolts or equalizers, you can find all that here at etrailer.com.
Now the eye is going to be right at 11 16th of an inch. This spring here does not include bushings. And again, this is a one-leaf spring. It has a leaf thickness of a quarter of an inch, and this does have a spring capacity of 3000 pounds. So when you pair this with another spring on the other side, that's where you're going to get your 6,000 pound trailer axle capacity.
Now let me see if I can show you the measurements on center between the eyes here. This is tricky here on camera. So let me line that up there. So on center, because I hope you can see, eye to eye, we're sitting right at 25 and a quarter inches. Obviously that's when this is unloaded.
The spring width is one and three quarters inches. And to ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf-spring should always be replaced in pairs, as I'm sure you know.
