Features to know about

Heavy Loads Made Easy: 12,500-lb Surge Power

This actuator handles up to 12,500 lbs GTW and 1,250 lbs of tongue weight, giving you dependable control when towing heavier setups. Its hydraulic surge design automatically matches your trailer’s braking force to your tow vehicle’s deceleration, so stops feel smooth and even without extra brake wiring.

Strong Build for Tough Conditions: Zinc-Plated Steel Body

The zinc-plated finish stands up to corrosion on boat ramps or job sites, keeping the actuator looking clean and working right even after years of use. The sturdy steel construction resists bending if the trailer ends up at a sharp angle while backing or turning, so it keeps its shape and function where lighter designs might not.

Simple Setup: Bolt-On Fit for 3" Channel Tongues

Installation is straightforward with a bolt-on design that fits standard 3" wide channel tongues. No welding or custom fabrication is needed. Once it’s in place, you get a snug, secure connection that’s ready to go right away.

Dialed-In Coupling Height: Adjustable Channel with 3 Positions

The built-in adjustable channel gives you three vertical positions across a 4" range, so you can line up your lunette ring exactly where it needs to be for level towing. Whether you’re changing trailer loads or swapping between setups, it’s easy to fine-tune the height.

Smooth Braking and Safe Stops: Built-In Breakaway Kit

A complete breakaway kit comes installed for added safety. If the trailer ever separates from the tow vehicle, the system automatically applies the brakes to keep things under control. Combined with the actuator’s roller design that reduces resistance during telescoping, it helps deliver steady, reliable braking every time you hit the road.

Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator Adjustable-Channel Disc Brake - T4810000

Hello, neighbors. Steven here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at our Dexter Zinc-Plated Adjustable-Channel Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes with the Bolt-On Lunette Ring included, rated at 12,500 pounds capacity. So folks, this hydraulic actuator is gonna synchronize your trailer brakes with the towed vehicle brake. So it has a unique roller design built inside that's gonna reduce resistance during that telescoping in and out to create a straight line of movement. So if you're not familiar with these styles, basically when you stop the trailer or start to break, the inertia and the weight of the trailer is gonna push this forward, and that's gonna then push the brake fluid back to the brakes and everything, and give you a consistent break in tandem with the in-cab brake controller.

So it is a unique design on the roller itself, again, that creates that straight line of movement. So it is sturdy, super durable steel. And it's gonna resist bending and jackknife situations and those kind of things. The adjustable channel here for the lunette ring has three different mounting positions. Two holes for each one.

And this is your standard three inch channel up here in the front, and the lunette ring is gonna be used for your pintle hitches. It does have a breakaway kit included. You have a nice chain length here with an S hook on the end. So god forbid something happens, that chain would then engage the manual breakaway override. I'm gonna leave it in that position right now since it's new and there's no fluid and stuff and everything hooked up.

Now it is a nice bolt-on installation, which makes it super easy to install. Again, disc brakes only rated at 12,500 pounds, and a tongue weight of 1,250 pounds. So on the back here, you can see the connection point for the brake line there. Again, folks, just a nice quality Dexter part. As you already know, they're well known for these kind of things.

Even the main bolts up here has a grease circuit in it for maintenance. Easily put the grease in there and everything. Keep everything rolling nice and easy. I wanna go ahead and do some quick overall dimensions. Let me back out here. And again, folks, these are just rough dimensions. Overall, if I count to the back where these rods are protruding out, I got about 28 and a quarter inches front to back. If this was on top of the frame of the telling your trailer where it should be, the height of just this part here is right at about five and a quarter inches tall. So again, top down, just to here, the top of the bracket, five and a quarter inches tall. That's not including all this stuff here. So again, that's just some quick dimensions for you. If you need more in depth ones, check out the page as well for anything like that. Again, folks, the Dexter Zinc-Plated Adjustable-Channel Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching. As always, stay safe while you're towing.

It was slightly damaged upon arrival. We were able to bend the mounting bracket back and use it.

Might consider better packaging on such a heavy item. Price was good, arrival was fast. Everything was good from your end. UPS was a little rough on it.

Will say… I unit I purchased was much larger than what was required, will also say outside of the additional costs associated with the increased capacity, the unit simply is amazing.

Towing has never been easier. I don’t know why it took me so long to figure this out. I would highly recommend the unit to anyone who is interested!!!

  • Can a Lunette Ring Coupler be Installed on a Boat Trailer for a Pintle Hook Style Trailer Hitch
Pintle hitches and lunette rings are usually found in agricultural applications and I cannot say that I have ever seen one used with a boat trailer. That is not to say that it could not work, it is just uncommon. A more traditional ball style coupler would be more ideal for road travel and it seems like it would also be easier to couple, uncouple. There would be a tighter fit with a ball hitch and a pintle set up might allow for more horizontal and vertical shock. We have a lot of brake...
