Backing up a loaded trailer doesn’t have to mean fighting your brakes. The built-in electric reverse lockout on this actuator ties into your reverse light circuit so the disc brakes automatically stay disengaged when you shift into reverse. That means you can back up a boat or construction trailer without hopping out to mess with a manual lockout. It’s simple, automatic, and built right in.

The EZ-Latch coupler makes connecting your trailer fast and foolproof. Just lower the 2-5/16" ball into place and listen for the metallic click—no need to fumble with a trigger latch or wonder if it’s really locked. The latch rises as the ball seats and snaps shut when everything’s lined up, giving you a solid connection and peace of mind before you pull away.

Inside, the aluminum master cylinder resists rust and corrosion, while the heavy-duty steel outer housing takes the towing stress day after day. A large reservoir provides plenty of brake fluid capacity, cutting down on refill time. The automotive-style diaphragm cap seals out dirt and moisture so the hydraulic system stays clean and responsive.
The inner member slides on a self-lubricating acetal copolymer liner that keeps movement smooth and consistent. This hard plastic material is tough, durable, and reduces friction so braking feels steady instead of jerky. It holds up under load and keeps operation reliable even after years of use.

This actuator comes primed for welding onto a 3" wide trailer tongue, giving you a clean surface that’s ready for paint once installed. With a 20,000-lb gross towing weight rating and 2,000-lb maximum tongue weight, it’s built for serious hauling while giving you the flexibility to finish it exactly how you want.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we can take a look at the Demco Hydraulic Disc Brake Actuator with the electric lockout and it's for a 2 and 5/16 diameter ball. Has a 20,000 pound gross toying weight capacity and you can see it's in a nice prime finish. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer's brakes when the tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs, and the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with a surge brake system like this, this actuator's then triggered as the trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down and when this happens, this actuator will contract, applies force to the master cylinder back here.
And this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. This one uses a nice acetyl copolymer lining which provides a nice smooth operation as the actuator will telescope in and out. This one does use an easy latch coupler mechanism for a nice, simple, secure hookup and disconnect. Basically, it'll let you hook up when this latch is in the closed position like it is now, you just drop the coupler over the hitch ball and the latch will snap into place. You don't have to get out, open it, close it.
I wanted to try to demonstrate that. I happen to pull, here's a 2 and 5/16 size hitch ball. So if I can lift this up and you can see if I put it on there, with it on there, and then you just put the weight, push it down. If you noticed, it snaps right into place. That lever snapped into place to keep it there and you can see that you're connected.
No problem. So you don't have to open and close the latch all the time and you just leave it in this position. Now when you go to disconnect you just pull up on the latch it's a trigger latch right up here, release it, whoops. And then you'll be able to see once you put that up in the up position, it releases it. You can take it off the ball and now you're detached.
Simple as that. So it makes it very easy to connect and disconnect. And you swing this back over here. This is a heavy duty steel construction. Has a sturdy reinforced outer casing, as we mentioned, has a nice prime finish to it. Now the master cylinder in the back here it is a heavy duty aluminum master cylinder. It's very durable, rust proof, and efficient. It is built for high pressure applications and allows 50% greater displacement than a standard master cylinder. Under this shield back here, you should be able to see there is an electric reverse lockout solenoid. This will let you back up without actuating. your trailers brake. Basically that's solenoid will activate automatically when you shift into reverse. It does have wires on it, so it does have to be wired into your trailer connector, which will then connect your tow vehicle so that it can detect when you're in reverse. It does come with the breakaway cable and the latch hook. That's all included and it is required by law cause this will prevent a trailer runaway situation. And the way it does that is you take your hook, has a latch on it, and you, when you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle then you take this hook and hook it to the tow vehicle. And what that does is in case this comes detached from the tow vehicle, it will pull on this cable which would activate that lever, which again would allow the pressure in here, supplies the pressure to engage the trailer brakes in a runaway situation. So again, this breakaway cable comes, is included, and it is required by law. Now this is a weld on installation. It is designed to mount to a straight 3 inch wide trailer tongue. It is made in the USA. Specs again, this is, for trailers with hydraulic disc brakes. Gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds. Tongue weight maximum is 2,000 pounds. And this does also go by a model number of DA20. But that should do it for the review on this Demco Hydraulic Disc Brake Actuator with the electric lockout for a 2 and 5/16 diameter ball. Has a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.
Ratings & Reviews
Very high quality product. Super fast delivery.
Heavy duty. Bigger and heavier in person. Feel confident with that trailer behind you. Worry about other things instead of your trailer.
Nice quality.
Awesome on-line experience. The way it should work.
Thanks Amy
Very well make Surge Brake Hitch. Excellent quality. etrailer always has what you need at a good price. Excellent company.
Arrived in good condition, although box was in bad shape. Just got it and disassembled to fit up and weld on 1978 Airstream 31' Excello 500. Will have to reposition jack and possibly propane tank mounts. This trailer originally had a vacuum brake booster. will update when installed.
I received the coupler on time but was missing the reverse solenoid. My installation was a little unique do to replacing a super short Atwood unit. I also had to modify the channel as well, you may not have to for your application.
unit is heavy duty
arrived promptly
replaced actuator on utility trailer, updated frame and axles, was time to complete with correct weight actuator,, went from 7k to 12.5k and has by pass for auto back up anti lock.. this is mcuh better than non by-pass type
