When your route takes you beyond smooth pavement, a standard coupler setup just can’t keep up. The 2-1/2" lunette ring on this tow bar pairs with a pintle hitch to give a wide range of motion both side-to-side and up-and-down. That freedom lets your towed vehicle move naturally over rutted paths and uneven ground without binding or stressing the connection. It’s a solid, 6,000-lb-capacity steel setup built to stay strong through off-road jolts and long-haul miles.

Lining up for hookup doesn’t always happen on level pavement, and this tow bar makes it easier. The telescoping arms extend from 33" to 40" and pivot smoothly thanks to stainless steel inner arms that resist corrosion and slide freely. They reach the pintle hitch even when alignment isn’t perfect, then automatically lock into towing position with the Autowlok system once you pull forward. When it’s time to disconnect, press the release buttons to unlock each arm and slide them back—no wrestling or extra tools needed unless you’re really in a bind.
When the trip’s over, there’s no need to lug heavy gear around. Quick-disconnect brackets let you mount or remove the tow bar in one piece, and when it stays on your vehicle, the arms fold neatly across the front for travel. A full-length crossbar with angle iron bracing keeps things rigid while you’re towing and provides a solid base for compatible Roadmaster accessories. It’s a tidy, secure way to stay ready for the next hookup without cluttering your garage.

Every part of this bar is built to handle real-world stress. Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA) testing identifies and reinforces high-load areas, resulting in a strong, durable design. Self-lubricating nylon bushings cut friction and wear inside the telescoping arms, while welded steel plugs keep dirt and moisture out. A powder-coat finish guards against rust, and a built-in safety strap inside each arm keeps the pieces connected even if a latch were ever to fail. It’s smart engineering focused on lasting reliability, mile after mile.

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.
To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.
| For the RV | Between the RV and Towed Car | For the Towed Car |
|---|---|---|
| Hitch | Tow bar | Base plate |
| Wiring plug | Safety cables | Braking system |
| Wiring adapter cord | Wiring kit/diodes |
The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

It was a tough installation, but we got it installed. The tow bar works well. It takes some strength to attach to a the ball on my RV.
A quality product. Very easy install
Used the frame mount from the same company, same review
The product quality is excellent and very easy to use. We've had no issues with the installation or towing our F150 behind our motorhome. Easy to remove or attach with just one person.
Very easy to install and use. Very fast shipping. Don't forget to order safety cables along with the tow bar.
I am pulling a Jeep behind a pickup camper so I don’t have a place to stow the tow bar like a motor home. This tow bar folds nicely and fits on the front of a Jeep well.
Appears to be a high quality product, that came with good instructions, and all the parts for installation on the base plate already installed on my Honda Fit. This will allow me to flat tow the car behind my class A motor home.
every thing went smooth instructions very good 2003 wrangler
I was slightly nervous that this would be difficult to take on and off if I wasn't on flat ground. So for I have not had any issues and I really like that it hooks up to a 2 inch ball. My jeep has a lift on it and getting things level was easy with and adjustable height mount.
This is a very well made hitch. It was very easy to fit, is very robust and very easy to fold away. I bought the optional cover which makes the unit very neat when not in use.
The adjustable arms make this tow bar simple to hook up and disconnect. I can pull up behind our RV and hook up in about 3 minuets (including the wiring for our break buddy and putting the transfer in neutral). Disconnecting and stowing the bar is even faster. Although is tow bar is locked to the baseplate and folds flat it is so easy to remove I end up taking it off and putting it in the back when we will not be towing.
Love this towbar. By myself, I can hook up to my motorhome and be ready to hit the road in 10 minutes .
Nice, solid product. Easy to install and remove. Sliding action is very smooth, easy to extend and fold. My hitch coupler is slightly different design than shown but seems very heavy duty.
Bought this from Etrailer with all the supporting hardware needed to flat tow my Durango. The quality is excellent (stainless steel, very strong), the install was pretty easy. Only issues I had were because of the are of my vehicle.
Towing with it and hooking up is simple. It takes only a minute to go from stowed to hooked up. Etrailer.com was easy to deal with, helpful, and shipping was very fast. This is my second order with them, both have been flawless. Their pricing also proved to be the lowest.
This product is well made and well engineered. It performs the functions of allowing a reasonable amount of flexibility in coupler/ball alignment, locking into place, smooth vehicle towing and securing into the "stowed" position. Because of my bumper mounted winch, I needed to make some adaptations to the mounting system which the RM-501 accommodated very well. I am very pleased with this purchase.
I will send a couple of installed pictures by seperate email.
If you are thinking of towing a car this is the company to see. Just installed a base plate and tow bar to my Toyota. Took just 2 hours. With the video and instructions, no problems, very easy. Customer support excellent, very helpful. If you don’t think that you can do this install yourself, think again. I would recommend this tow bar, with the telescoping arms connecting to the car is very simple and secure. This is a 5 star product. Thank You
Having used Roadmaster products for years imagine my surprise when after using my new hitch for only a month the right arm came apart while towing my car. I happened to be looking at it and was able to coast to a stop during a slight uphill grade which prevented my car from any further damage. As it turned out the bolts which hold the arms on had fallen out. Why I don’t know. I was able to use a temporary pin in the slot which allowed me to get to a hardware store where I replaced ALL the bolts holding both arms with grade 8 bolts and nylon locking nuts. The arm slid on the road, ground down a small corner and scuffed the paint but did not compromise the integrity of the hitch. The design works flawlessly even if the quality control could use some closer monitoring. All in all it’s still a great product. As you can see from the photos I doubled up the nylon locking nuts and have had no problems since.
I am using this on the front of a UTV to pull around so it is plenty strong for that and is working good. I ordered the pintle version so that I could fabricate a clevis style hitch and use a hitch pin to pull behind a pickup or tractor. I only gave 4 stars because the latch on the left sider sometimes has a hard time latching. I don't know if there is a way to adjust the lock or not.
This is a great towbar! I deliver motorhomes professionally and I did use a Blue Ox that went into the receiver hitch that I had to move from hitch to hitch rain or shine. Now all I have to do is put my small lightweight pintle hitch hook into the receiver and just quickly drop this lunette ring onto it easily, but when I’m not using this at all it’s so easy to just remove the whole towbar from my vehicle. I also like how easy it is to fold up so that it’s all compact and out of the way when it’s stowed on the front of my vehicle. This makes my hooking up and unhooking so quick and easy. The only thing I don’t like is when I end my trip on a downhill or slightly turned it’s hard to get this towbar off of the pintle hitch by myself, but I have done it every time with a little back and forth moving of my vehicle.

Id like to see what I can recommend about the left side that is difficult to latch. Would you be able to send a picture of it? The spot that you are talking about specifically? Have you had a chance to clean and lubricate the tow bar?
