Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Orbital Buffer

Ellen: Hey everybody. I'm Ellen here etrailer.com and we're taking a quick look at the performance tool's orbital buffer and polisher. This is going to help you to clean, buff and polish your vehicle without damaging the paint and finish by having that random pattern, we don't have to worry about wearing in one spot. It's going to move it around so it's going to keep the things moving and we don't have to worry about our finished being damaged. Pretty easy to use. It has the two handles that makes it easy to hold and move along the surface of your vehicle without getting too strained by having to just hold it with one hand.

It also comes with two bonnets. So it really gives you a nice kit all in one. I like that this is a really nice big backing plate. So especially if you're going to be using this for an RV or a bigger vehicle, it helps you to get that job done quickly. So let's take a closer look and I'll also plug this in so you can see what it looks like when it's turned on. It does have a pretty short cord, but most likely you're going to have to have an extension cord anyway.

So I've got my power source here. I'm just going to set off to the side and plug this in so you can see it in action. Now, again, it does come with those two bonnets. So we get a terry cloth, it's kind of hard to see since it's all white on white and then also a synthetic wool, which is kind of more of a long pile material. I'll bring these closer to the camera so maybe you can get a little bit better picture of that material. So this is our synthetic wool and it's going to be a much more kind of fluffy material.

You can see that there. And then the terry cloth is kind of that more shallow, more of a buffing kind of polishing or buffing and the wool would be more polishing. So just to give you an idea of the two different bonnets that it comes with. Now, as far as turning it on, it just got a little switch here. It is just the one speed. So turn it on and it moves just really nicely.

So you just want to maintain a little bit of pressure that it doesn't fuck around. It makes it pretty easy to get that job done quickly. And of course already on here is the foam backing plate. This has a 120-volt, 60 Hertz motor, and works at 0.92 amps, 3,000 RPMs, and it has a no-load speed with that six and a half inch 2-pronged cord. So you can use this on just about anything you want, whether that's an RV, a larger truck, boat, or anything else that you might want to use. That's pretty much it for our quick look at the Orbital Buffer. I hope that this has been helpful in setting if this is the right choice for you. We do have some other accessories here at etrailer.com for cleaning buffing, polishing any of your vehicles. So definitely check those out and thanks for watching.

  • Does Orbital Buffer Work To Polish Aluminum Horse Trailer?
Patty, you can definitely use the Orbital Buffer 10" # PT37VR on aluminum. Just make sure to use a non-abrasive finishing wax and the wool or microfiber bonnet. Compounds are more for painted or gelcoat surfaces, but for bare aluminum, you’ll want something protective like a metal polish or a sealant. Work in small sections, wipe off with a microfiber towel, and you’ll be good to go. Do you want the aluminum to stay shiny, or are you trying to knock down oxidation too?

  • Detailing 2014 Honda CRV With Orbital Buffer - Which Bonnet Cloth To Use?
Daniel, in the Orbital Buffer 10" Diameter - 3,000 rpm kit # PT37VR, the wool bonnet isn’t too aggressive - it’s actually softer than the terry cloth one. The terry is for cutting/compounding, while the wool is gentler, making it better for polish or wax. On a Honda clear coat, I’d stick with a light-cut compound first, like the Griot’s # 349B110P, then follow with # 34911013 on the wool bonnet for a protective shine. Are you hoping to just remove swirls, or do you want to do a full correction...

  • How Many Bonnet Cloths Come With Orbital Buffer? Are They Replaceable?
Jordan, you’ll get two bonnets in the package of Orbital Buffer - Random Action -10" Diameter - 3,000 rpm # PT37VR - one terry cloth and one synthetic wool - so you’re covered for both compounding and finishing right out of the box. If you plan to tackle a full-size truck or RV, I’d suggest grabbing a few extra bonnets so you don’t have to stop mid-job to clean them. But they are reusable and washable. It just uses standard 10" replacements so you can find that at local stores or online...

  • Does The Orbital Buffer For Detailing Cars Have Single Speed Or Variable Speed Settings?
Mike, the # PT37VR is a single-speed orbital polisher, so it’s simple and straightforward to use - pretty difficult to mess it up! It runs at 3,200 orbits per minute, which is a safe speed for both beginners and experienced detailers. If you’re planning heavy correction work on tough paint, a variable-speed unit might give more control, but for general compounding, polishing, and waxing, this one does the job well. I have a similar style product with 1 speed, and I've never thought to get...

  • Is Performance Tool Orbital Buffer The Same As Rotary Buffer?
Hey there Kyle. Rotary buffers spin in a single circular motion, which makes them powerful but also risky - they can leave circles or even burn through paint if you’re not careful. The # PT37VR is an orbital polisher, which means the pad oscillates in small circles. That action mimics hand polishing and makes it much safer for DIY users while still giving you a professional finish. without a circle pattern left behind. Are you thinking about using this on a daily driver, or more of a show...

  • Orbital Buffer And Recommended Compound And Polish Wax For RV Fiberglass Gelcoat
Blake, you can absolutely use the # PT37VR Orbital Buffer on fiberglass gelcoat. In fact, it’s a great way to bring life back to a dull RV exterior. Start with a mild compound like Griot’s Complete Compound # 349B110P and the terry cloth bonnet to take out oxidation, then move to the wool bonnet with a finishing polish like # 34911013. Just go slow and keep the polisher moving - gelcoat is forgiving, but you don’t want to focus in one spot too long. What type of RV do you have, and what...

  • Which Buffer Cover Is Better For Compound And Polish - Orbital 10" Buffer
Great question, Greg. With the # PT37VR polisher, you’ll usually want to start with the terry cloth bonnet when applying compound or rubbing compound. The terry cloth has more bite, so it helps work the compound into the paint and cut through oxidation or swirl marks. Once you’ve got the surface corrected, you’ll switch over to the synthetic wool or microfiber bonnet for your polish or finishing wax. Some folks even keep a couple of clean microfiber bonnets on hand so they can dedicate...

  • How Does Orbital 10" Buffer Keep Bonnet Cloth From Flying Off?
That’s a common concern, Steve. With the # PT37VR, the bonnets stretch over the 10inch pad and have an elastic edge to keep them snug. The trick is to make sure the bonnet is seated evenly all the way around before you start. If you load too much compound or polish in one spot, it can cause slipping, so apply in small amounts and work it in gradually. Have you picked out a compound or polish yet? We can match one to your application if you don't have it yet.

  • Does Orbital Buffer For Detailing Cars Plug Into Household 120v Outelt?
Mark, the # PT37VR runs on standard 120V household power and draws about 0.92 amps, so any regular outlet is fine. Just avoid long, thin extension cords that don't meet the required power, since those can cause voltage drop and increased heat/resistance. If you’re working in a garage, a 12-gauge extension cord under 25 feet would be perfect. What kind of workspace do you have - garage, driveway, or RV pad? This could even be setup on an off-grid layout if that's what you want to do. If...

  • Which Orbital Buffer And Compound Cream Is Best For Black Car - Chevy Silverado With Swirl Marks
Alan, yes, it’s a good match. The # PT37VR is a dual-action orbital, so it’s much safer for beginners than a rotary buffer that can burn through paint. Pairing it with a correcting cream like the Griot’s # 34910862 is a smart choice for swirl marks. I’d use the terry cloth bonnet first to cut, then switch to microfiber to finish. Do you plan on sealing it afterward? A good polish or wax can help keep those black panels looking deep and glossy.
