Getting to your gear shouldn’t mean wrestling with a cover. The Switchblade uses a tension spring that automatically retracts the vinyl-over-aluminum deck into a compact canister at the front of the bed when you squeeze the pinch grips at the tailgate. It glides smoothly along the rails and can even be left partially open when you need it. The design keeps your rear window clear and makes it easy to switch from covered to open in seconds.
When you have to haul something big, the whole cover can come off in about ten minutes using just a wrench and screwdriver. The rails clamp to the inside of the bed, so once the bolts are out, you simply lift the canister and you’ve got full use of the bed from front to back. After the load is done, reinstalling it takes the same short time and you’re back to a secure, weather-protected setup.
The deck combines heavy-duty aluminum panels with a bonded black vinyl top layer, giving it the strength of a hard cover and the smooth look of a soft one. A foam seal runs under the rails and canister, and a large rear seal closes the gap at the tailgate to block dust and rain. Drain tubes in the 9-1/4" tall x 9-3/4" deep canister channel water out through the factory holes in the bed floor, so the cover and your cargo stay dry—even through frequent car washes.
Once the cover is closed and the tailgate is locked, the bed becomes a sealed compartment. The pull strap and pinch grips sit under the rear plate where they can’t be reached from the outside, and the rigid aluminum panels resist cutting or prying much better than a soft cover. It’s a solid way to keep tools, hitches, or groceries out of sight and protected from weather or theft.
The side rails sit just 1/8" above the bed rails for a flush, streamlined appearance that blends with the truck’s lines. That low stance also helps reduce wind drag for better aerodynamics when the cover is closed. The result is a clean, tight look that doesn’t add bulk and still gives you quick, easy access whenever you need it.

We do have the instructions linked above. The tonneau cover will initially be pretty tight, but as you mentioned, will loosen up a bit over time.

Update: Purchased in July 2025, it is now September 8th 2025, so basically 2 months since installed. The cover will not retract all the way. Called the manufacturer for warranty. I basically have to remove the cover and inspect the spring assembly. They will then send out a new spring assembly that I will need to install myself. This will require a fair amount of my time, which I am not happy about. This unit should not fail in two months, especially with very limited use. I would have preferred them to send a new cartridge that I could put in the truck for ease of repair. They dont care about the customer experience, apparently. Do better Pace Edwards!

A year later and the cover is still working great. I do have to say that it leaks like a sieve at the tailgate, but that’s the only issue. It’s hard coming from a tri-fold that completely covers the bed and kept water out, but the benefits still outweigh this one con. It’s holding up great and still slides flawlessly. I probably don’t lubricate it quite as much as I should, but the few times I’ve done it has helped it slide like new again.
