If you keep tools in your truck, leaving them loose in the bed exposes them to weather, theft, and whatever else you're hauling. This low-profile crossover box keeps them organized and protected behind the cab, with access from either side.
You've spent good money on your tools, so tossing them loose in your truck bed doesn't make much sense. It can be aggravating watching expensive tools get beat up just because they don't have a protected place to ride. They get knocked around while you drive, buried behind whatever else you're hauling, exposed to the weather, and left where anyone can walk off with them. This crossover box gives them an enclosed place behind the cab while leaving room underneath for tools or other cargo in the bed. The included J-hook hardware mounts the box without drilling into your truck.
Give either locking knob a quick bump with your hand and the latch releases, letting the gas struts take over and smoothly raise the lid to nearly 90°. With locking knobs on both ends, you can open the box from either side of the bed. Reinforced hinge points maintain alignment as the lid opens and closes, while full metal shields protect the struts from tools and equipment shifting inside the box. A full rubber weather seal surrounds the lid opening to help keep dust, dirt, and weather away from your gear.
A large open compartment gives you room for bigger gear, but small tools get buried when everything shares the same space. Westin includes a sliding tool tray, level holder, and tool caddies on both interior side walls, giving screwdrivers and other frequently used tools their own places without taking away the main compartment.
The box is formed from one-piece aluminum diamond tread, with additional aluminum reinforcement at stress points throughout the enclosure. And because a toolbox that lives in your truck bed is going to see its share of rain and moisture, the corrosion-resistant aluminum is made for life outdoors.

Hi, everyone. Steve here with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at our Westin Brute 71-inch long low-profile crossover style toolbox in polished aluminum. Folks, this is constructed of a extra thick one-piece aluminum with that diamond plate tread. And they do put additional thicknesses of aluminum in the reinforcement areas, much like the main stress points, the lid, around the gas struts, and around the locking mechanism and the bar that goes across as well. That way none of that's gonna ever get damaged or interfere with your daily use.
Now the finish looks great in your pickup truck. Again, it's a low profile. That means the toolbox is gonna sit lower on the bed rails. And they do give you the installation hardware, I'll show you that in a bit, but you also get these two foam pieces with double-sided adhesive on the back. There's two of 'em here, and one's gonna be for the driver and one for the passenger side to keep the truck bed protected.
And as far as opening it, it really is a simple push-open design and it's lockable. Now the picture I threw up is black, we do offer this same toolbox, item number W73YH in black instead of the polished aluminum, but you can simply push that button, if you have gloves on, you can lock it. You can lock the passenger side, but unlock the driver's side and still be able to open it from the driver's side. It's a simple push and then it's gonna open by itself. I'm just slowing it down so it doesn't flip over, 'cause it's not attached.
And there you have it. Again, low profile, long access. You have a nice weather seal inside of here that goes all the way around, that's gonna help keep out moisture, dirt and debris, dust, those kind of things. And then coming from the top down, I do wanna show you the nice features of the toolbox itself. So starting off with, you have this yellow tray, it can slide the full width of the toolbox, side to side.
Deep inside here at different points, you have some brackets on the back wall, that's gonna be for putting your level, so maybe your construction, maybe your those kind of people. You can put up to, I believe, a 48-inch level is what I measured that would fit in there comfortably. You technically have more space than that, but I feel like a 48-inch level is probably about the longest you're gonna get in there. You could put a shorter one in there. I believe the space between the brackets was enough for a 2-foot level as well. So just an option for you. What I like is that this can be taken out, I'm gonna leave it in there right now because it's got stuff in it, but if you can just simply flip it up at an angle, it'll pop right out. You have, again, that reinforcement around the gas strut that's gonna protect everything. Let me step around here real quick. And then again, you have a pocket here where you can put some extra tools. You got screwdriver holes, plier holes and slots up in here as well. And that same yellow bar with storage, and this is mirrored on the other side, so you have that over there as well. Inside the tray you have these aluminum dividers, you can pop them out and make those spots bigger if you have needs for anything bigger. And I did go ahead and leave in the box, just for showing you some space, the J-hook. So this is the no-drill installation J-hooks and hardware. You're getting two packs of this. So two on this side, two on that side. And that's gonna be what holds this down to the bed of the truck, the side rails of the truck. And then as you can see, I do have a full-size impact kit here as well, that fit in there. I wasn't able to stand it up and close the toolbox, unless I had it perfectly between these two spacers, and no one wants to do that, so it does sit down in there whenever it's laid down with no problems. And again, I talked about it earlier, you have that reinforcement all the way across the front. There's a bar inside here, as you probably know with other toolbox brands, that's usually exposed, I like this because it keeps stuff from getting snagged on that bar. You can be sure you're gonna be able to close it and lock it with ease and unlock it, more importantly, with ease every time. And again, you get two keys included. I just left 'em up here from the factory. Again, you can lock one or both sides as needed. And then as far as closing it, just simply push it down and you're good to go. Again folks, this is a great option for you. In closing, I do wanna give you some dimensions. Overall, side to side, I got 71-inches long at the top, and 20-inches deep, and 15 1/2-inches tall. And more importantly, the base dimension, that's the part that's gonna sit in between the bed rails, I got 60-inches long, that same 20-inches deep, but 11-inches tall as far as that goes. So approximately you got about 12.3 cubic foot of space and this should fit most full-size pickup truck beds, and those kind of things. Well, folks, that's gonna wrap up our quick look together.
