Features to know about

Climbing Steep, Snowy Roads with Confidence: Grooved Square Links Bite Hard

When the snow stacks up and the ice gets slick, these pewag ladder-pattern chains dig in and keep you moving. The grooved square links grip better than standard square or round links, giving you solid forward traction in deep snow, ice, and even muddy sections. Each link measures 5.6 mm (0.220") thick for dependable strength that stands up to real winter driving.

Chains Built for the Long Haul: Reversible Design Doubles Their Life

No need to worry about wearing these out too soon. The reversible link design means you can flip the chains over once one side starts to wear, effectively doubling their lifespan. It’s a simple way to get more use out of your setup without losing performance, especially if you drive in snow season after season.

Stay Focused on the Drive: Manual Setup Without Cams or Levers to Loosen

These chains keep things straightforward. There are no cams or levers to come undone when reversing or bouncing through rough terrain. The manual tensioning design stays secure, and if you want an even tighter fit, you can add rubber adjusters (sold separately). Once they’re on, they stay put so you can focus on the road ahead.

Step 1 of pewag tire chain installation showing chains laid out flat on the ground to remove twists and kinks before mounting on tires.

Step 2 of pewag tire chain installation showing chains draped over the tire with hooks facing outward from the sidewalls.

Step 3 of pewag tire chain installation showing the chain being tightened and connected behind the tire for a secure fit.

Rubber adjusters installed on pewag tire chains to tighten and secure the fit, with hooks facing away from the wheel.

Tough Enough for Harsh Winter Use: Nickel Manganese Alloy Steel Construction

Built from nickel manganese alloy steel, these chains are made to handle abuse. The alloy resists rust better than standard carbon steel, and the case-hardening process adds extra durability. The hard outer layer protects against wear, while the inner core absorbs stress without cracking. Whether you’re pushing through icy roads or deep snow, these chains can take it.

Reliable Grip for a Range of Setups: Fits 15" – 19-1/2" Tires

With coverage across 15" to 19-1/2" sizes, this pair of chains offers dependable traction for a wide range of tire setups. Each set includes two chains and carries a 90-day warranty, giving you solid traction support through tough winter conditions.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Just got chains, came when said they would. Put them on they fit fine and got good traction. First set of chains I have ordered for a pickup. They a little lighter weight than I expected. But other chains i have used have been on farm equipment and were made from heaver material. I wouldn't purchase anything lighter weight or cheaper than these unless your using them solely for on road use. On a 2018 Silverado 1500 18" wheels pickup the chains fit well, but you definitely need the chain tightening bunge or the chains do hit the fenders on the rear. Not the chains fault, just GM should have left more space between the rear wheels and the fenders.

Have had these for less than a year and they're already cracked and rough-looking. Hoping this is just aesthetic but I'm afraid they're going to fail soon!

Just received them and test fitted them on my Falken Wildpeak AT3W 275/65R18 backtires. It was a tight fit, but they made it, plus the tires are brand new. Havent used them yet, but they seem well made.

  • Are The pewag Tire Chains # PWE2221S 2-Link Chains?
Hello Walter. Yes, the pewag Tire Chains # PWE2221S are considered 2-link chains, just like the picture shows. Reply below and let me know if you need anything else.

  • Difference Between Pewag Snow Tire Chains PWE2221SC and PWE2221S
The part # PWE2221SC comes with cam tensioners to help get the correct tension in the tire chains whereas the # PWE2221S does not come with the cam tensioners. The product pictures for both chains makes this confusing since they both show cam tensioners (the half circle metal piece with a slot you see between the sections of chain that run over the tread of the tire) but only the # PWE2221SC actually comes with them.

  • Tire Chain Recommendations for a 2012 or 2013 Chevy Express 15 Passenger Van
I went by a 2013 Chevy Express Van and put it through our fit guide to find chains. There are two tire size options listed, 245/70-17 and 245/75-16. I will provide some recommendations for each size for you. First for the 245/70-17 if you plan on infrequent use then going with a set of cables, # PW3010C, with rubber adjusters # PW99 would be the way to go. Cables are great if you seldom need chains and/or live in an area where chains are not required by law. For frequent use and/or if...

  • Pewag Tire Chain to Fit Tire Sizes 265/70R16 245/75R16 and PWE2221S
The Pewag Chains part # PWE2441S are a confirmed fit for the first size you listed of 265/70R16 but that's the only one. The other tire sizes would require different chains. For the size 245/75R16 you would need the part # PWE2221S for the correct size chains for the tire size and then for the 265/70R17 you would need # PWE2439S. Pewag makes great tire chains so all of these would work well for you. You would need to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine if there are...

  • Availability of Cleated Snow Chains for a 2003 Toyota Tundra with 265/65-17 Tires
At this time we do not have snow chains with cleats for the 265/65-17 tires that are on your vehicle. The most aggressive snow tire chains we have for the 265/65-17 tire size are the Pewag All Square Snow Tire Chains, item # PWE2221SC. These chains have cam tighteners to easily tighten the chains on your vehicle tires and keep them tight. The chains you selected, item # PWE2221S, do not have cam tighteners and are a bit harder to install but also work well. You should check your vehicle...
