Features to know about

Installs Without Cutting or Splicing: Plug-In Harness

Wiring up trailer lights usually means tapping into factory wires, but this harness eliminates that step. The Curt T-Connector plugs in line with your existing tail light wiring to create a clean 4-flat connector. It’s a direct plug-in design, so there’s no cutting or splicing needed to get your trailer lights powered and working properly.

Reliable Lighting Power: Powered Converter Box

This harness includes a powered converter that draws power directly from the battery rather than relying on the vehicle’s lighting circuit. That helps protect the vehicle’s electronics and ensures consistent voltage for your trailer lights. The converter keeps turn signals, brake lights, and running lights bright and steady, even with extra load from LED setups or accessories like bike rack light kits.

Covers the Basics with 4-Flat Connection: Running, Turn, and Brake Lights

The 4-pole flat connector gives you all the main trailer lighting functions—running lights, left and right turn signals, and brake lights. It’s also the same connector style used on popular light kits for racks and small trailers, so you can easily plug in and go.

Clean Install Using Factory Paths: Hidden Wiring Layout

The harness routes through existing panels and grommets for a tidy finish. Once installed, the wires stay hidden behind trim panels and out of sight, leaving only the 4-flat connector where you need it. The result is a factory-style setup that looks clean and professional without extra drilling or exposed wiring.

Very quick and easy to install. I had this kit installed and finished in 15 minutes. And in my line of work, the faster/simple the solution, the better. Highly recommend this kit for anyone who needs an easy/proper installed four flat trailer wiring harness.

by:

This kit made wiring up the trailer lights easy. Clear and concise instructions. Very happy with purchase.

by:

Ordered this part for my XC 90 and it was the easiest install I’ve ever done. Works great and highly recommend etrailer for any make or model!

by:

Everything still is perfect in fact actually pulling the trailer out of storage to start getting it spring ready.

by:

Very easy to mount on my XC90 Volvo

by:

Perfect fit, works flawlessly. Decently easy install (some wire fishing). Everything plugs right in.

Excellent. Works as it should. I have not had any issues with the product.

by:

Product was fairly easy to install even though directions are not exactly accurate. In my 2012 XC90 I needed to really reach for the tail light harness (to the side of the 3rd row seatbelt and behind the plastic). Accessing the harness was the hardest part for us!

by:

The harness was easy to install after watching video.
The trailer hitch fit perfectly a little difficult for one person but I did it.

by:

Both hitch and wiring harness were easy to install and work perfectly.

by:

I installed the hitch on my Volvo XC90 by myself in less than one hour and had the electrical wiring harness finished in half that time. The videos on how the install both were excellent. The Volvo dealer wanted $1000 to add a hitch to my car. I figured I saved $750 dollars with etrailer.com. So glad a friend told me about you guys.

by:

wiring harness fit nicely. It was a pain getting to some of the connectors, but everything hooked together and had just enough length of wire to run it down to the hitch. Worked on the first try. Very pleased.

by:

Ordered the Curt hitch and T-tap wiring harness for the 2005 Volvo xc90. Everything shipped quickly and came packaged together. I appreciated the emails telling me when teh package shipped and tracking information. The hitch went in smoothly and without and problems. All hardware was included and the holes lined up perfectly. The wiring harness could not have been easier. simply unplug the existing light connections and snap the new harness inline. A cordless drill is a must to secure the ground screw, even though it is self tapping. The kit included everything I needed, including wire zip ties.
I would recommend etrailer.com to anyone looking for a hitch related product; good product and great online videos to walk you through an install.

by:

This kit fit into the 2008 XC90 nicely. The only thing that I would suggest improvement on is to revise the design to support running the 4 pin connector thru the rubber grommet in the bottom of the body area where the battery overflow tube exits to under the vehicle and equip the kit to provide for mounting the 4 pin connector to the Hidden Hitch, Trailer Hitch Receiver, 2", #87810 which I ordered this harness with. Running it out the tailgate when in use seems a bit hokey.

by:

Wiring was relatively easy to install once I found the appropriate locations to connect it. I am not very handy, I just have a bit of a sense for wiring (ie. I can install a light fixture in an existing electrical box and that's about it) and I was able to figure it out on my own. It is still working perfectly to connect my trailer wiring to my vehicle (2011 Volvo XC90) wiring one year later!
The video instructions on etrailer helped a lot!

by:

The unit has worked very well. The only drawback has men with the rubber Kepler band is missing the small locking button to secure the unit to the 7 pin connector

by:

Product delivered promptly, everything in order, followed the video install directions . My only concern was the red box attached to the power wire was not in the video & not mentioned in the written instructions. I figured it out & the trailer lights are working A-Ok!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Terry. The red box attached to the power wire is the fuse holder.

by:

This wiring harness makes a professional installation easy, no fuss, no mess, and it works fine. The installation videos make the first time install seem routine and are very helpful. I do plan on adding extra clearance lights on my trailer's fenders, however all LED now, I do not anticipate any decay in performance. One thing I do not particularly like, nor am accustomed to is the "dangling" harness hung out the hatch vs. a fixed covered jack on the frame or hitch that the wires from the trailers can routinely plug into. While it is protected and out of the weather/salts when not in use (the great majority of time), and can easily be kept out of water when at a boat ramp, when setting up, I forget to drag the car end of the wiring harness out from under the Volvo's cargo bay cover, (sometimes already loaded with gear). I may end up ordering a stationary flat four pole jack to mount outside. I'll get used to it, yet know it's a great part you'd have no regrets ordering.

by:

I purchased the wiring harness for a 2007 Volvo XC90 about a year ago and it has still been going strong. I don't leave it plugged in all the time as I sometimes get an error message saying that a brake light is out, but I don't know if that's the harness or the car. It is very easy to reconnect when I do tow - about 6 times a year. Simple installation, connections fit tightly and it looks pretty weather resistant.

Thanks for the info Dave. This is a common problem with vehicles that have the trailer lamp out detection monitoring system. The European car companies were leading the way with this technologies. You can install load resistors like P230004A-2 to prevent the light out sensor issue. If you dont use it that often you may not be too worried about this.

by:

Easy to hook up. I did disconnect the battery before removing the 12v lug from the fuse panel. Did not want to risk error codes.

by:

Great product, super easy to install in my 2006 Volvo XC 90. Everything is plug and play, even the power tap which was located right in the fuse box was quick and simple. For my install I cut the 4-Pole Flat connector off and fed the wire thru a rubber plug in my trunk to the Hopkins Trailer Socket that I also purchased from etrailer. This is my second hitch setup I've purchased, all the information you need is readily available, products are always in stock, and the shipping is quick.

by:

It took longer to drill in the margarine wire into the body than the ready of the installation.

by:

Good product, straight forward installation. I think it is a little strange that plug is supposed to be dangled out of the rear hatch when in use so I purchased the "Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-, 5- and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End - Ergonomic Design - HM48470." I cut the 4-pole flat off this harness, feed the wires through a drain plug in the body panel and attached the wire ends. The connector interfaces very well with my XC90 and there is still no drilling or advanced skills needed.

by:

The product is excellent, but the installation instructions are very poor. Tiny type and confusing photos.

by:

Excellent part for my 2006 Volvo XC90. Everything lined up perfectly. The instructional video was on point as well. If anyone has a Volvo and looking to add this I highly recommend it!!

by:

The wiring kit had explicit instructions that mapped out detail installation for my specific vehicle. Now my wife can pull a trailer to get garden soil and plants, I can get lumber for home projects. Thank you for the quality product. Michael"

  • What Wiring do I Need for My 2011 Volvo XC90 in Order to Use the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller
Hello Agustin, Great question. For your 2011 Volvo XC90 you are correct that you will want to start with the 4-flat wiring, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56045 will be a great fit. Since you already own the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller # C51180, you will want to build off of the 4-flat with the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L. I attached an install video on a Volvo (the...

  • Troubleshooting a 2007 Volvo XC90 W/ No Turn Signals and Brake Lights
Hey Nelson, so if you've already checked your wiring, grounds, and voltage then it's most likely an issue with the controller. The only other thing you could check is the fuses, and see if one maybe blew, but if not, then it's likely an issue with the controller. Before you replace your brake controller though, I'd check the trailer's wiring especially that 4 pole to absolutely rule out wiring as the culprit. If that all checks fine, then you'd need a replacement like # 90195. If there...

  • 2010 Volvo XC90 Tow Wiring and Brake Controller Install
To install the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Brake Controller # TK94FR brake controller on your 2010 Volvo XC90 and trailer you have established an excellent plan. You are correct in choosing the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Brake Controller for your vehicle that is equipped with multiplex wiring. You will also need a functioning 4-pole trailer connector. You can install either the Curt T-Connector # 56045 or the Tow-Ready # 118411 to establish a 4-pole wiring connector. To install either of these connectors...

  • Install Video for Installing Trailer Wiring in a 2011 Volvo XC 90
I attached an install video for the Tekonsha harness part # 118411 that is also a fit for your 2011 Volvo XC90 that shows how to access the connectors behind the rear panels of the vehicle. There are actually two videos attached. One for a 2013 XC90 and one that shows a 2009. Both of these will show the same process which you should follow.

  • Difference Between Tekonsha Trailer Wiring and Curt Trailer Wiring For 2005 Volvo XC90
That's right, the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118411 and the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56045 are very similar for the 2005 Volvo XC90. They both install in the rear cargo area of the Volvo and give you a 4-Way flat to connect your trailer into to illuminate the trailer lights. The difference really just comes down to the brand of wiring. I recommend the Tekonsha brand part # 118411...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch For 2006 Volvo XC90
Hello Suresh, thanks for reaching out. We do offer a trailer hitch for your 2006 Volve XC-90. I recommend the following: - etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e45KR If you intend to tow a trailer you will also need the Curt T-Connector # C56045.

  • Troubleshooting Fuses Blowing on T-One 118411 Wiring Harness for my 2006 Volvo XC90
I would strongly recommend not using a higher rated fuse to compensate for additional load on the trailer wiring circuit. Those fuse ratings were designed to protect the wiring so that nothing gets fried. Going to a higher rated fuse would just move the weakest link of the setup somewhere else and the problem would show up somewhere else. Most likely somewhere expensive! The best solution I could give you would be to go with a higher rated trailer wiring harness to allow you to tow a trailer...

  • C56045 Not Working on Volvo
It is possible the # C56045 is defective, yes. But you can check a few things first, and start by taking a look at your owner's manual to locate any fuses or relays and ensure they are all there and in working order. I know it's pretty basic and you likely have already done it but I did want to mention it. Next check the ground wire and make sure it is good (this was done on step 5 in the instructions) as a bad ground can lead to all types of funky issues. If that's good, and the fuses...

  • Most Economical 7-Way and Brake Controller for 2005 Volvo XC90
The most economical option to add a 7-way and brake controller to your 2005 Volvo XC90 is going to take a number of parts, starting with a 4-way, the T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56045. A 4-way is needed because it will allow you to then install a 7-way adapter; the 4-way will be what allows your trailer's turn signals to function. From there you will need to use the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L, which will give you the 7-way and other...

  • Dim Trailer Lights On 2010 Volvo XC90 Using the Curt T-Connector Harness C56045
Yes, the dim lighting on your 2010 Volvo XC90 while using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56045 is almost undoubtedly caused by a poor ground. I recommend you choose a new spot on the underside of the vehicle and sand this down first. If you still have issues make sure you have a full 12 volts going into the converter box. If not, check your connection on the red wire to the battery.
