Video Transcript for Yakima FreshTrack Ski and Snowboard Carrier Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima FreshTrack 6 rooftop ski and snowboard carrier. This will carry six skis or four boards with part number Y03093. It's also available as the FreshTrack 4 to carry four skis or two boards with part number Y03092. This retro-style Yakima carrier will allow you to transport skis, snowboards, and even fishing poles in the warmer months.Like most good quality carriers, it has a large push button here in the front, so you can easily access the inside even with oversize mittens or gloves. And the spring-loaded design allows the carrier to stay open for easier loading. Here on the inside, the thick rubber cushions on the top and the bottom help stabilize and protect your gear.

When it closes, you can see how it conforms around your gear, holding it in place.I've gone ahead and removed the skis and snowboards so we can take a closer look. With the carriers installed, they're going to add about 5 and 7/8ths of an inch to the height from the top of your crossbar. On the FreshTrack 6, which is what this is, it offers about 30 inches of usable space. On the FreshTrack 4, it offers about 20 inches of usable space. The carriers mount to your crossbars using the clamp style only. The buttons feature locks.

That way, no one can remove your gear, and two keys are included. Here, I have the FreshTrack 4 in place. It has all of the same features as the FreshTrack 6. You just can't hold as many skis or boards. The benefit of it being smaller, though, is you may have more room for accessories on the roof of your vehicle. So Jonathan works with our customers.

Jonathan, what are some questions our customers are wanting to know about ski and snowboard carriers Jonathan: Well, one of our most common questions is, "Will this ski carrier fit on my roof rack" Speaker 1: Well, the clamps are very universal. They're going to fit crossbars right around 3 and a half inches wide, and they're about an inch and 3/4 tall. So they're going to work with most aero style round or square, and maybe even some factory. Do the customers have any more questions Jonathan: That was really our most common question that we get about these. Speaker 1: Okay.

Jonathan: One thing I notice, though, is when the carrier is fully loaded, the button becomes difficult to push. So what I've found is that if you apply a little bit of down pressure and then push the button, it pops- Speaker 1: It just opens right up. That's a really good tip. Yeah, thanks a lot. Jonathan: You're welcome. Speaker 1: Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. We've already got the rear ski carrier installed. Let's go ahead and install the front one together. It installs the exact same way. When you get your carrier, we've got some assembly we've got to do. We've got to put our clamps on. Now, the clamps come pre-assembled. We just need to install them on the carrier. What we want to do is start by taking the screw out of the top, and we're going to install the clamp on the bottom. Now, we want to line up the hole on our clamp with the hole on the carrier. An easy way to do this is to grab the screw and open it up and insert the screw through the top opening here. Now, we can put our clamps into position. So we'll just line it up with our hardware, put it in place, and start tightening it down with the included tool. Perfect. Now, one thing to consider doing is to install the clamps so they're going the same direction and also install them so they're going to be facing the rear of your vehicle. With the knobs in the rear, it's going to cut down on your wind noise. Now, we're just about ready to put it on our roof rack system. We want to make sure that our clamps are opened up, so we want to loosen up our hand knob and push the T-bolt through. We'll turn it so it's vertical, and then we're going to pull it through our clamp, just like that. And we want to do that for both. With both of our clamps opened up, we now want to set the size of our clamp. We've got three different options here. Since we're working with the Yakima JetStream roof rack system, we're going to go with the default position, which is right in the center. You can set yours to whatever works best with your application. I'm just going to put it in position, and now, we're ready to go.Now, let's set it in place. What we want to do here is make sure it's in line with the rear. So I'm just going to rest it down and then eye it up. Once it's in line with the rear, we're ready to connect our clamps. So we want to bring it around. We want to feed that T-bolt back through, same way we took it out. Once you've got the T-bolt through, you then want to turn it to the other position, and then we can start tightening it down. And you just want to make sure that it stays in that same position until it locks into place. And I'm just going to loosely install it until we get the other side in position. With them both loosely installed, we can go ahead and tighten them down completely. And finally, we can tighten down our security screw with our security wrench, and this is going to prevent anyone from loosening up our knobs. With both carriers installed, let's go ahead and push on the button to open them up, and we'll load up some snowboards and some skis. All right. With everything loaded up, let's go ahead and close up our carriers, and then we'll lock them up. And that's going to complete our look at the Yakima FreshTrack ski and snowboard carrier.

Do you have a question about this Ski and Snowboard Rack?

  • Recommended Ski Carrier for 2018 Subaru Outback With Factory Roof Rack
  • I highly recommend checking out the Yakima FreshTrack # Y03092 for a 4-ski carrier or FreshTrack # Y03093 for a 6-ski carrier. These ski racks have been confirmed to fit the factory crossbars on your 2018 Subaru Outback and is locking to help keep your skis and the carrier safe. The FreshTrack offers convenience in the form of a push-button opening and your skis will stay put and scratch-free inside the carrier due to its rubber molding. • Recommended Ski & Snowboard Carrier and Wind Fairing for 2009 Honda Accord With Roof Rack
  • The ski and snowboard carrier I highly recommend that will work with the Rola Sport Series Roof Rack # 59757 is the Yakima FreshTrack # Y03092 because it is easy to use and includes locks to protect your valuable skis and snowboards. The FreshTrack # Y03092 can carry up to 4 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards and will simply clamp around your Rola Roof Rack # 59757. To open the carrier all you need to do is push a button, though it also comes with locks which will secure your gear. It is...

  • Recommended Carrier for Four Pairs of Skis and Poles
  • The ski and snowboard racks we offer are not designed to hold the ski poles as well but they can be used in such manner, you would just want to bump up to the next size. Since you mentioned that you had trouble closing the latch on your previous carrier, I recommend using the Yakima FreshTrack Ski and Snowboard Carrier part # Y03093 because the latch can be secured at multiple points for the perfect amount of tension on the skis. This is shown in the review video I have attached for you...

  • Snowboard Carrier for 4 Snowboards with Tall Bindings for Use on 2007 Ford Explorer
  • The Rhino-Rack Ski and Snowboard Carrier # RR576 will provide 3-5/8-inches of clearance over your crossbars for your snowboard and ski bindings. If that is not enough Yakima offers their FreshTrack # Y03093 that has taller risers that provide 5-7/8-inches of room above the crossbars.

  • Compatable Rhino Rack Ski Rack for Subaru Aero Crossbars
  • I went out to the warehouse to measure the clamps on Rhino Rack Ski Rack # RR573 and found that it was approximately 4" from center-to-center of the screw holes, with the screws themselves being 1-1/2". The clamps are roughly 1/4" thick, so the bars on your Subaru Impreza will need to be less than an inch high. They will also need to be roughly no more than 3-3/4" wide. I've added a link to a video review of this rack, as well as a link to each of our Rhino Rack Ski Racks.

  • Snowboard Rack That Fits Factory Crossbars on 2014 Audi SQ5
  • There are 4-board snowboard racks which will fit your 2014 Audi SQ5, though I checked with Inno and the Inno Gravity INA927 will not. I recommend the Yakima FreshTrack # Y03093, which is confirmed to fit your '14 Audi, will hold 4 snowboards, has a push-button design which makes it easy to open and also locks, allowing you to protect both your snowboards and the rack. I have added a link to a video review of this carrier for you to take a look at as well.

  • Compatibility of SeaSucker Monkey Bars and Thule SnowPack Ski and Snowboard Carrier
  • The catch to using accessories with round bars like the SeaSucker Monkey Bars # 298-SX6000 you referenced is that you need to have the unit the accessory is meant to hold installed so that they don't fall over. What you are experiencing with the Thule SnowPack Ski and Snowboard Carrier # TH7326 is perfectly normal with round bars and shouldn't be an issue once you have the skis/snowboards in place.

  • Will the Yakima FreshTrack Fit the OEM Crossbars on a 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • The Yakima FreshTrack 4 # Y03092 or 6 # Y03093 should fit just fine with the OEM crossbars on your 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon. The FreshTrack is actually a new release from Yakima that imitates a retro look in ski and snowboards carriers and replaces the PowderHound which is confirmed to fit your Outback Wagon. They might not have had an opportunity yet (Nov. of 2017) to test it on an Outback Wagon, but since they are classified to fit most factory crossbars you are good to go!

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Yakima Key for Yakima Fresh Tracks 4
  • We do sell replacement Yakima keys for their accessories like the Fresh Tracks 4 # Y03093. The key to picking out the correct key though is knowing what key number you have. It's only written on the keys and on the side of the lock cores so if you lost the key without writing down the key number and the rack is locked you are in a tough situation. If the key number you have is A149 the correct replacement is the part # Y8772-A149. If the rack is unlocked you could use the part # Y8007835...

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class to Carry Bikes and Skis/Snowboards
  • To tow a trailer with your 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class I recommend using the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75774, the Tekonsha Wiring Kit # 119190KIT, and then a ball mount kit like part # 989891. When I took a look at the online version of your owner's manual it looked like the max trailer weight you can tow is 3,500 lbs with a max tongue weight being 280 lbs. For a bike rack that also allows you to carry skis or snowboards I recommend using the Yakima FullTilt # Y02462 which is compatible...

  • Recommended Ski/Snowboard Carrier for a 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon with Integrated Crossbars
  • I recommend going with a Yakima ski/snowboard rack for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon because they feature the FatCat EVO which has a sleek modern design and the FreshTrack if you are looking for more of a retro style. These will mount to the OEM crossbars that you have as the side rails would be where you would attach a roof rack and not an actual carrier. Both of these ski/snowboard carrier options come equipped with locks, oversized push buttons so you can operate them with your gloves...

  • Most roof rack ski carriers, including Yakima's own carriers like the FatCat EVO 6 # Y03096 and FreshTrack # Y03093, will directly fit the most common roof rack crossbar shapes including Thule square bars, Yakima round bars and most other elliptical/aero type bars including Thule's AeroBlade type.
