Features to know about

Stay Level and Confident Under Load: Air Springs That Keep You Balanced

Hauling heavy gear or extra weight in the back can cause sag that throws off steering and braking. The Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs fit inside your existing rear coil springs to provide extra rear-end support. With a load-leveling capacity of at least 500 lbs (at most 1,000 lbs) and adjustable air pressure from 5 psi to 35 psi, you can fine-tune the support to match what you’re carrying. Keeping the vehicle level helps maintain stability, improves braking and handling, and keeps tire wear even.

Dial In the Ride You Want: Adjustable Air Pressure From 5 psi to 35 psi

Every load is different, and these Coil-Rite springs let you set your ride height and firmness to match. Add more air when carrying heavy cargo or towing, then drop down to the minimum when unloaded for a softer ride. Each side adjusts manually with individual inflation valves, so you can balance uneven loads and reduce body roll. The result is steadier handling whether you’re on the highway or on rough roads.

Tackle Rough Roads Without Bottoming Out: Durable Polyurethane Construction

Bumps, dips, and uneven pavement are no challenge for these elastic polyurethane air springs. They absorb shocks and cushion the suspension to prevent bottoming out under load. That same durable construction keeps them flexible for years of service through varying road conditions. They’re designed to work with your factory suspension to smooth out the ride and keep the axle from taking all the impact.

Simple, Complete Setup for DIY Installation

This kit includes everything needed for installation—air springs, brackets, hardware, air line, and separate valves for manual inflation. The springs mount inside your existing coil springs using your vehicle’s spring seats with no need for complex modifications. Optional switches, gauges, compressors, and air tanks (sold separately) can be added later for quick in-cab adjustments if you want even more convenience.

Easy to install ! Can’t wait to tow my pop up camper with my upgraded suspension!

by:

It was tougher than the instruction stated. At 70 yrs. old I don't have the strength to get them through the coil. Problem solved, dropped the lower "A" arm and removed the coil spring, in it went. The second one only took about 15 min. With the lift and scooter on the car no longer scrapes backing out of the driveway. (8lbs.) inflation.

by:

Took a bit longer than I expected, but all's well that ends well. etrailer representatives extremely helpful - kept me informed as to the status of my order and reason for the delay. I would recommend to others.

by:

The install for me was easy and the set up was as well. However after the install the right bag would not hold air. I have looked repeatedly for leaks and have not been able to find anything leaking. Not sure if there is a defect within the bag. As of now the bags are not being used because they do not hold air.

by:

Wish I would have installed it sooner. Huge improvement in handling and reduced tire wear. Should have taken before and after pics. Car sits prettier.

by:

It took my auto mechanic 25 minutes to install the F4176 package in my 2010 Volkswagen Sportswagen TDI. All went smoothly and at about 10 PSI leveled the vehicle as wanted. The air bags were at a safe distance from the exhaust pipes. The mechanic is a AUDI/Volkswagen professional.

by:

Hasn’t been great.
I have used a different
brand before and it was amazing, but this one has had nothing but small leaks that my mechanic and I can’t seem to find, even with all the soapie water in existence.
So I just pump it up when I need it and it gets me the lift I need to get to the dump and back.
Wouldn’t recommend.
Also dealing with Firestone for warranty is practically non existent.
So you are on your own.

by:

The kit works well, the airlines/fittings are very easy to use. The directions could have been more clear, particularly emphasizing how challenging it would be to get the airbags into the coil springs. I was sure I had the wrong size for a while, but after double checking, I found it easier to take the coil springs out of the car for easier access. In the end the install and performance are a success.

by:

These bags were installed on my 2015 TDI jetta and work very well I tow an enclosed 10ft trailer with a motorcycle in it thats about 800LBS and it gives me better control of my front wheels as they are planted on the ground much better. I would recommend these to anyone.

by:

The product does work, but for how long is the question. Installation was straightforward. I was very careful to make sure i had clean straight ends when i cut my tubing. After installation i filled up the air bag to half the rated PSI. Soap tested and test drove for 20mins. Filled the bags to 3/4 there rated and soap tested, test drove another 20 mins no leaks. My first trip with a trailer on the ball was 90 long and by the time i arrived one bag had leaked out where the hose pushes in. Do to space i had to cut the line to remove the bag remove the hose and then reinstall. The system does work. I'm just not a fan of quick connects. Due to the amount of work to install the bag i would like to see a more fail safe hose connection.

by:

A note for those who might have lowered your vehicles: For me, this made it much more difficult to install. My aftermarket lowering springs had the coils closer together, making it extremely difficult to stuff the bladder into the spring, and since they're honeycomb-shaped springs you can't just slip it in the end of the spring either. I got it in but juuuust barely.

Considering the price, I'm satisfied. I would have happily paid a few bucks more to get some higher quality hoses and fittings, but it still seems to work well.

Still working just fine a year later.

I just installed these Firestone Air Bags on my 2011 Jetta Sportwagen. I did it myself and it was easy! Just remove the tire... The bag slides in without even removing the shock. I'm towing a 13' Scamp trailer, and the lift is about 2" at 30 psi... The ride and steering are greatly improved! This product actually performs as advertised!

I will pick up a scamp 13 type 2 this May in Backus, MN using the same as your TV. I would appreciate if you can give me some type of feedback regarding your jetta performance, towing wise and MPG. I will be coming from Southern CA.I opted for an electric brakes on my and installed a curt hitch. I am in the process of installing a curt brake controller and wiring ,all purchase from e- trailer. You help me decide to install the Firestone Air Bags to my TV and I will Install it myself too. thanks to you.

by:

Easy installation; I replaced my worn shocks as well at the same time on my 2010 jetta sportwagon. Removing the shocks gives you a few more inches of room to slide in the assist bags. It was easier to slide them in after wiping the bags and spraying the coil springs with silicon. I routed the air lines through the frame and mounted the valves in the spare tire well. Much better ride especially when towing my 5x8 trailer.

Can i ask what you used as a bracket to mount in the spare tire well? Did you plug the holes you drilled with anything?

Brad S. profile picture

1/13/2015

- response for Shane K question - I did not use a bracket to mount the filler valves in spare tire well just used a drill bit slightly larger than valves and the tensioner nuts holds the filler valves in place no worries. Just be sure you mount the valves so that you can fill them when the spare is in place. I used silicon sealer around the edges so no air can get to the bare metal.

I purchased this product on the recommendation of a service writer from my local VW dealership.
I carry a lot of tools and equipment in me Jetta Sportwagen for work.
Shipping was super quick and follow up was excellent.
I just installed the air bags yesterday with a friend. Very easy to install. One helpful suggestion, after the first attempt to stuff the deflated air bags in the spring we found it too flat and hard to get in. I suggested squeezing the top end round like an eggroll and putting a cable tie around it to hold it and then getting the remaining air out. It goes it much easier and no need to remove the bottom shock mount.
Huge difference on the ride home! Ride height back to level with 350 lbs of equipment in the back.
I highly recommend this product.

A full year later and not a single problem. I havent had to add air since I set the bags up. About 11k miles of mostly city driving.

by:

Used the Air Helper Springs on a VW Jetta to help when we put the 4 bike rack on it. Worked perfectly, kept us level when loaded and letting the air out gave us the ride when empty. Bike pump easily pumped them up when needed. I would recommend this product for anyone needing to control ride height under load or when towing to stiffen the suspension. We have had them installed for over a year. Way to go eTrailer!

by:

The coil rite works well but they were a little harder to install than we thought.

by:

Etrailer was fanatic there communication is great and follow thru
Install was a bit harder then other reviews say it is as far as getting the air bags inside the coil springs .I ended up taking the coil springs off the car for install not hard just time .after air bag install the rest was a peace of cake .With 35 psi in the air bags car was a lot firmer rode better and handle better then stock .Still the vw sport wagon is weak for towing tong weight .But the air bags are a must have if you tow anything or even carrie a bike rack

This is a review after installation. Will comment on performance later.
Easy order, fast service. Thankfully used services of mechanic for install. i would not have made it at home.
First: used a lift, then had to remove the coil spring as the air bladder would not fit between the coil. After that it was easy to insert.
After that the rest was pretty straightforward: feed the air hose, reposition the shock and suspension and the wheels.
BIG PROBLEM: my kit came with the hose inserted in the air spring and the other end in a valve. IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE as directed. Left the air spring end in place and did the hose rooting with no problem.
On the valve side could not disconnect and basically broke it trying to remove.
DO NOT CONNECT HOSES BEFORE FINALIZING THE INSTALLATION.
Thankfully I contacted etrailer and they are sending a replacement valve. The mechanic will wait to finalize the install at no additional cost.
Thank you etrailer for great service, Firestone for a good product but, unless you have huge coils or are ready to dismantle the whole wheel assembly, don’t try the install alone. Leave to professionals the professional’s job.
Can’t wait to try it. Will review performance later.

It works well but again, the installation instructions are sketchy at best. I had installed valve up but the coils are very long and the valve hits the top of the coil upper bumper. It went sideways and I could not inflate. Later I went to my local service center and we reversed the coils and put the valve towards the bottom. My Hyundai Tucson has a lower bumper and there is a hole in the lower suspension arm so we made a hole through the bumper and ran the tube through the suspension arm. Works great. Ran the fill valves in holes through the rear plastic bumper: easy access. Please make Firestone aware of the install info and maybe add a video on your site for your customers. BUT: eTrailer, your service and customer support people are GREATTTT. Thanks

by:

Easy to install and leveled off my 2013 Jetta TDI sport wagonwhen I put extra weight and tools in the back

by:

Quite the satisfied customer, I’m very pleased with etrailer. The part I ordered was out of stock, but they kept me up to date and even called me multiple times, to insure me, that when the product came in, I would be the first to know.

These people rock!

by:

perfect way to keep my car stable and level with weight on the hitch, little tricky install but overall great product

by:

No issue at all with these. Keep them with at least 10-15psi at all times and lift it up to 30psi only when fully loaded or hauling. Initially, the blue fill tube seemed too long but worked out great to get it laced underneath the exhaust heat shield. Some have put the fill valves on the inside. However, I found it easier to use a standard bike pump on the exterior. And made it symetrical :)
I would had have recommended it to several others who have simular needs.

by:

Parts are very good quality but installation instructions for my 14 Jetta were very poor. Had to air to 25 psi to keep air bag from shifting in spring but did help stabilize vehicle.

by:

The plugs that are used in Step 1 to keep the spring deflated for installation leak, thereby preventing installation.

by:

THE SERVICE IS AMAZING IHAD A SMALL ISSUE AND IT WAS HANGELED BY PAULA IMEDIATELY THANK YOU THE PRODUCT IS INSTALLED ON A 2014 VW BEETLE THERE IS A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SPRING HOLDER SO I INSTALLED THE AIR SPRING WITH THE LINE AT THE BOTT0M AND THREADED THE LINE STRAIGHT OUT THE HOLE PRETTY SMOOTH THANKS AGAIN

  • Alternatives for Trailer Hitches That Do Not Allow for the Use of a Weight Distribution System
I do have ways to help with trailer sway and vehicle sag on your 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan but none of the trailer hitch receivers they have for your vehicle are compatible with a weight distribution system. Load leveling is what Volkswagen calls what we refer to as weight distribution.
