Today on our 2012 Honda Civic, we're going to be test fitting the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System, consisting of part numbers RRVA126B-2. Those will be their cross bars. Part number RRRLKVA. Those are going to be the legs. Then part number DK319. Those are going to be the clamps that attach it to your vehicle.
We have the first the front one installed already on our vehicle. You can see it has a nice aerodynamic shape. It's going to cut down wind noise and drag. Both bars have a combined weight capacity of 165 pounds, although you want to double check with your vehicle to make sure that your roof can withstand that weight. Let's go and show you how the rear one goes on. We already have it partially assembled on our table.
We'll show you how the other end gets put together. We'll first take our leg. You can see it has this bracket here at the top. That's going to slide into this channel here. Go ahead and do that.
We'll slide that into place, and then I'm going to go ahead and put the end cap on while I'm on it, and take our tool here to lock it into place. Next, I'm going to go ahead and get my measuring tape, measure out the distance where this leg has to be set. Now these do come with strips, where you would measure it out and cut it to length, and that would be a fixed point, so you always know that's where it has to be. For today, we're just going to go ahead and measure it out. Okay. Then we'll go ahead and tighten the screw down here with the included Allen tool.
Do the same for the other side. Double check that measurement there. Okay. We're good. Next we'll go ahead and take our pad here that's going to go against the vehicle. Put that in place. Just kind of push it in. Then we'll take our clamp. Flip this around here so you can see a little bit better. Install that by first unscrewing this. Put our clamp into place. Then we'll re-insert the screw. Just loosely for now. All right. Now we're going to set this on our vehicle. Go ahead and open up the two rear doors. We'll set our cross bar into place. Now we'll go ahead and get our cross bar spread measurement. We're going to measure from center to center. You'll want to double check with your instructions to get the right measurement. Looks good about right there. We'll repeat this for the driver's side. All right. Those are relatively where we need them to be. I'm going to go ahead and make a quick adjustment here so it's kind of sitting evenly on the roof. Then we'll just loosely tighten the clamps just so they're touching the vehicle here. Just get them snug. Do the same on the other side. One we have that done, we'll actually start tightening them down. Now once we actually start tightening them down, we're going to try to do this evenly. About five or six turns each side. Some accessories you can put on these roof racks include bike racks, cargo baskets, cargo boxes, kayak carriers, and ski carriers. That's good there. Once this is tightened down, you can see how this blue handle here is curved. Once it actually tightens down, you push it in, it's going to straighten out like that, from the curve where it's at now, and that'll tell us it's ready. Final step. We're going to put our covers on, which are lockable, which will secure this to the roof of your vehicle, excuse me. There you have it for the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System on our 2012 Honda Civic.
