Speaker 1: Today with the 2015 Lincoln MKX, we're going to be test fitting the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero roof rack system and this is going to consist of part numbers RRVA137B-2. These are the Vortex Aero crossbars, 54 inches long. This is the black version. These also come in silver or aluminum colored as part number RRVA137S-2. Below that we have the 2500 series feet here, and that's going to be part number RRRLKVA and then below that we have the fit kit for this car and that's going to be part number DK228. That's going to consist of the clamp here, as well as the rubber pad, that makes contact with your roof. This is a great roof rack system that has a wide variety of accessories that you can utilize with it, such as bike racks, cargo baskets or cargo boxes.
The bars are a nice aero dynamic shape. They're going to help cut down wind noise and drag and the Vortex Aero strips are going to help out with this too.It does come with this tool here to unlock the plastic end caps here and so, pretty much whatever you put in the T-trek accessory here is going to be secure once this is secure. Now you can replace this with a lock, that you can find on e-trailer.com to secure everything even more. With the T-trek accessories here, how this works is, you would remove the strip, insert your T-trek accessory and then cut the strip to length and around it to keep it in place. The end caps themselves are also lockable and they come to you this way and it does come with a set of two keys for these locks. So everything is going to be nice and secure once it's installed on your vehicle.
The points of where it makes contact with your roof, such as where the pad and clamp here make contact. It's going to have this padding here on both to help protect your vehicle from scratches or abrasions once they're being installed. These are custom fit to work around the contours of your roof as well.So let's go ahead and show you how the rear one goes into place. We already have it partially assembled on our table here and we'll go through the rest of the process. So our first step is we're going to take our 2500 series legs here and we're going to install that on the other end of our bar.
To make it a little bit easier on us though, we are going to flip the bar upside down, remove our end cap here and then we'll go from there. Now normally, what would happen is we'd have this strip here with the measurement that would be slid into place and then cut to length depending on how far our actual leg needs to be placed here. But for demonstration purposes we're going to leave this out and just measure it out. We'll take the metal bracket here, slide that in between, like so and then utilizing out handy flat tape here. You'll find this measurement in your instructions with the fit kit. Measure it out and then we'll take our included, blue handle tightening tool here.
Tighten on that bolt in the center until it's nice and tight and it's not going to move. At this point, we can reinstall our end cap and secure that in place. Just to give you an idea of how this would look, once you cut the strip to length, that's how it would set into place there. And this is also going to assist with that cutting down wind noise and drag because you're not going to have this whistling while you're traveling.Okay. Now we'll move on to our fit kit. The first thing we want to do is put in our rubber pad. These are numbered and there is an arrow and you want to pay attention in your instructions because it will tell you whether the arrow faces out or inward or depending on what situation you have. In this case, it is going to be facing outward and it just pushes into place. Very easy. Then we'll take our clamp here and these are also numbered. We'll undo the screw here at the end. Line it up. Just reinstall the screw slightly because we just want it held into place. Now we can move onto our vehicle. Let's start by opening up both of our rear doors. And then we'll set our bar into place gently as to not damage our vehicle. In our next step, is going to be measuring from center to center on the bars on both sides to make sure that the crossbar spreads are going to be even. Now how we got our front bar into position, we measured from the center of the door jam here to the center of the bar. Again, you'll find those measurements in your instructions. And we'll come back to our handy flat tape here. All right, now we'll make sure that it's sitting evenly on both sides. This side could come towards us a little bit. That's good. Then we can take our tightening tool, we're first going to get it snug up against our roof on both sides. Then we'll go back and forth tightening it down more evenly. Giving it about five or six turns each side. Now some other accessories you can put on this roof rack are going to be things like ski and snowboard carriers, kayak carries. So this does have a lot of uses for it.Now the neat thing about this tool here is you see that it's curved on the end. As you tighten this down, it will straighten out and when it's completely straight like this, that means it's torqued down to it's specifications and this is to prevent you from over tightening on both sides.Final step is, we'll take our end caps here. These just fit into place like so, push in. Do this on both sides. All right, now finally, I'd like to give you a quick measurement here to give an idea of how high these sit off your roof. So from the center to the bottom of the bars, it's going to be about two and five eights inches and from the center to the top, that's going to be about three and seven eights inches. So that's more then enough space in between the roof rack itself and your roof. So if you have those accessories that wrap around your bars, it's not going to make contact or damage it.However, if you do have fully loaded bike racks or cargo baskets, you may want to keep that in mind when you're pulling in your garage. Both bars combined have a carrying capacity of 165 pounds, but you always want to double check with your vehicles manual to make sure your roof can take those weights and go by their recommendations. And there you have it for the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero roof rack system on our 2015 Lincoln MKS.

These heavy-duty, aluminum crossbars work with Rhino-Rack legs to create a sturdy roof rack. The square bars include built-in C-channels for mounting Rhino-Rack heavy-duty, contractor-grade accessories.Once installed the product is very sturdy and looks great. But the directions are hard to follow because of the separate components and would have been really tough without the video which was great. I have one problem, how can I eliminate the annoying wind sound when driving when nothing on the rack. I saw a video where wrapping a line around the crossbar can help. It has helped a lot but not completely. Is there another secret for this?
Buying this rack was a decision that I'm glad to report was spot on. It not only looks good on my Ford Maverick Hybrid but it has held up well and looks as good today as it did the day I bought it. It is also solid as a rock. The Rhino is also priced lower than other brands of similar quality.
I’ve had this rhino rack for over 3 years and it’s been excellent on long road trips to the ski slopes. A year after my purchase, I realized that I was missing the plastic coverings that attached to the end of the bars and called their customer service to resolve the missing pieces. I was impressed with their quick response and seamless delivery.
The rack fit well and was easy to install. Seems to be made well. The problem is the amount of road noise. I never even put the basket on. It was so loud, it roared. I repositioned it several times but the noise was way too much and I finally just removed it. I spent a lot of money for the rack and the basket and now they are in storage. I wish it would have worked out better because I thought it looked really good.
etrailer had the perfect solution to my car-top carrier scenario. All of the components needed were listed and available. The order process was an ease, the products arrived complete and on-time, and the products themselves are very high-quality. 10/10 will return for future needs.
Etrailer sold me a discontinued rack from rhino and is missing parts. It is also the last one they had so can’t send me a replacement. Rhino rack will not support and has no parts as it is discontinued. Parts sent do not fit and nobody can do much about it. Second issue I’ve had with etrailer and disappointed. Need to think about if will ever use etrailer again in the future.
I like the choices, videos and reviews on the website. Easy ordering. I received my order in only 3 days! This Rhino Rack system came with easy installation instructions. I did find that the measurement listed to set width of front crossbar was a bit off on my 2013 Ford edge. I made it a few millimeters wider and it was perfect. I use the racks to carry kayaks and have been very pleased.
This has been a disaster, and terrible experience from the start. Original product Rhino roof rack ($188.00) misrepresented for sale, even called and was told all parts were included as "Open Box" item. Received item with missing parts and mismatched parts, then ET sent wrong parts (Legs) causing having to order these cross bars ($192.00) to fit parts sent (Legs). Now my $300.00 BougeRV ski rack - mounting base plates won't fit the crossbars. Still waiting for return label for original item so I can get my refund of $188.00. Three weeks later, still dealing with problem. I do appreciate Shawnee and EDW for their efforts in follow up service attempts.
Great product, fit was spot on with correct vehicle specific parts. Etrailer
was fantastic to work with. Great communication and feedback, worked through a small problem with positive outcome. Will definitely purchase from them again, their customer service department is top notch.
Ordered a Rhino Rack for my 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. Rack arrived in very good shape and all items were there. Installing at this time and see no problems ahead.
Amazing product! This rack is as good as Thule and Yakama, and is about $100+ cheaper. I have owned both, and love this rack. As good of quality or better, and great accessories as well.
Tricky to rivet tracks onto car with a manual riveter but once done, a great solution for the car with ease of bar removal. My only regret was going with the square bars which result in notable increase in wind noise.
High-quality, sturdy rails, but noisy. There was a pronounced and audible whistle driving with these racks at any common road or highway speed (with the rubber inserts installed across the top). I have since replaced these rails with the Rhino vortex aero style (change of vehicles and the HD bars did not fit the new car). Having used both types several times, I would recommend the aero style over the HD if you have the option.
We were told when ordering that the items weren't in stock. Should not be expected until mid-August. We decided to continue with the order and were very surprised and pleased when we received our items two days after ordering. We have ordered from etrailer in the past and have been very pleased by their service and products. I'm sure we'll do more business in the future.
Purchased a Rhino Rack custom fit rooftop system, along with the kayak rack to hold two kayaks and the Swagman rv bike rack. Made several trips and they all work great! Included photos to share.
Product installation instructions were fair, and that is the worst thing I have to say. I havent put anything on the rack yet as I just installed it, but I gave a good tug on the bars and they are SOLID. The product came in a reasonable amount of time, and the feedback for etrailer is that I got followup emails at each step of the process keeping me fully informed right up to the message asking for feedback.
Bottomline: etrailer is a great business to work with, and this product seems to be good too.
Good quality and locks are included. The plastic lock covers are flimsy but they will keep an honest person honest.
Excellent roof rack for my naked roof ...plus the installation video was perfect - rather than read thru the instruction manual the video saved the day. Customer service here was perfect too - my shipping had been delayed - and not once but twice the folks here helped me get it expedited very happy with product with video and customer service
Can't really comment on the bars because they didn't arrive but the legs got here. Called Justin and he is getting them shipped, just wondering why it takes so long to get here. Picked on 8/12 and delivery is set for 8/23.
Rhino Vortex 2500 roof rack setup on 2010 Ford Edge without factory racks. Everything I expected- as described in the videos- delivered when promised- installed without issue and functions perfectly- all at a fair price! After making sure it’s worked- I just ordered the XTRAY PRO cargo basket.
The definition of perfect:-)
Great service. We sold our Toad and purchased a new (Lincoln MKX) to tow behind our motorhome. I contacted etrailer by phone and after a short dialogue, Blue Ox base plate and wiring components were on the way to my installer. Arrived in 4 days after my phone call ... free shipping. Worked great. ( still haven't towed new car yet). Now we need to modify ourRhino Rack for our canoe. I called Rhino Rack, got info and went back to etrailer. Again a well informed sales person got me all the parts that I needed to modify my canoe Rack for my new car. (Not free shipping).
Ok... bottom line... best price on the internet for what I was shopping for. Most informed and knowledgeable sales people. # 2... PPL motorhomes. Hope this helps others.
This rack works perfectly on my Nissan Versa for carrying my two Perception Sound 9'6" kayaks. The Rhino-Racks look good to me. The kayaks can rest directly on the rubber pads on the rails, unlike the Yakama racks I had in the past that had bare pipe rails. Also, I expect I can buy parts to adapt this product to a different car without having to buy new towers. I am sorry there are not hooks or loops to attach bungees when carrying lumber. They are noisy in the wind, but less so when carrying the kayaks.
The Rhino-Rack 2500 series rough rack has turned out to be a perfect luggage storage solution for my Ford Edge Sport which has the all-glass panavista roof. I'm stationed with the US Army in Vicenza, Italy and they just don't have flexible solutions like this over here. Thanks again for shipping to APO addresses.
The installation was smooth enough. Videos from etrailers page helped considerably. This is a job completed more easily with two people.
The rack looks great on the vehicle and fit as expected.
