Turn your 50-amp shore power plug into a SmartPlug cordset by clipping off the inlet end of your power cord and wiring in this new connector. Plugs in without twisting and locks in place with side clips.

RV and boat owners have long relied on Twist Lock style connections for powering their rides. For years, it has been the best option for connecting to shore power. It's been reliable, but most know it's not without disadvantages:
SmartPlug's connector addresses each of these concerns and does all of the heavy lifting.
Locking arms grab the inlet, a clamp inside the plug body holds the cord, the inlet cap snaps to the top while in use, and the integrated seals weatherproof the connection. This helps prevent the wiggly, dirty connections that increase electrical resistance, which creates potentially dangerous heat.
Since it uses a square plug face, SmartPlug is able to use flat pins which create far more surface contact, further reducing the risk of high heat and electrical arcing. The square shape and flat pins also make it easy to plug in - no more twisting or guessing if the pins are lined up correctly.

I purchased their SmartPlug unit because I wanted to make a shorter SmartPlug cord. The original 30 foot SmartPlug cord i purchased in 2017 from a SmartPlug dealer at the Airstream international Rallyproved to be too long for 90% of the hookups I made plus 30 ft. of cord is somewhat heavy and awkward. I made a shorter 15 foot cord by buying a shorter cord from eBay/Amazon??, Voila. !!1 Problems solved and the new cord works excellently.cutting off the female and keeping the male fitting and then adattaching the SmartPlug unit I bought from you.
Expensive unit because it is a proprietary design. Wish it had the LED indicator lights like the complete cord has. Directions should be clearer. Depending upon how the power panel of your RV is wired you may need to add a jumper between the red and black blades of the plug. Like all Smart Plug products the quality is quite high.
My order arrived intact and on time. The communication regarding shipping status was terrific from order placement until package was received. I am now a etrailer customer for good!

This is a very safe plugin over the original one that came with the trailer, it is a must do upgrade for any RVer out there.
Works very well, easy to install.
This product does exactly as described. I used it to create a lighter weight cord for use when I only have 30 amp service in place of using the heavier 50 amp cable with a dogbone adapter. Only downside is that it is a bit pricey.
Very well made product and delivery was fast!

Its been great! Very secure connection.
It was exactly what I was looking for.
Replaced the old plug and twist version that came with RV because I kept getting grounding errors from the Surge Guard. Since replacing have had positive connections. Like the locking tabs and not having the cross thread issues with the previous locking ring.
By the way, make sure you have a surge protection device that doesn't send power unless your connection is correct. Would not have known I had no ground otherwise.
This is my second RV that I have installed the SmartPlug connector on. I needed an additional female connector and etrailer was the obvious go-to supplier due to their quick shipping and fantastic customer service.
Seems like a real solid connection. Can't wait to try it out.
Great product and even better service
I love this plug. After owning it for a year, it has held up well. Easy to plug it in and unplug it. Installation was a bit challenging working with the heavy 4-wire 50 amp shore power cord. The only improvement I can think of is I wish the company had a 90° version. With the heavy wire coming out of the plug, it sticks out quite a bit from the side of the trailer. I am afraid that it could get bumped into by people next to me.
Did the job with making my own one piece 30 to 50 amp adapter for my airstream. Took a 10/2 with ground extension cord 50’ long and cut off the female end and wired the smart plug.connector. Had to put a jumper between L1&L2 used a piece of black #10 Romex. I’m satisfied!
I was replacing an existing Smartplug on two cables and was a bit concerned this might not be the same. It was the exact original and installation went great on the second one. One word of advice (why the first was a challenge) - since I was replacing Smartplugs on older cables, the new/shiny cable cover was now rougher to the touch. The new plug sleeve will NOT slide easily over a non-smooth surface. On my second cable, I used a very fine sand paper to smooth the rough spots in the cable, and the install took half the time as the first cable (where I had not done this).
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this transition from those stupid plastic screw-on plugs. This is relatively easy to install and a snap to use (literally). A great product.

A while back I bought a Smart Plug cord but their cordd is way to long and heavy to handle. My solution was to buy a 10 ft 50 amp cord, cut off the female end and attach a smart pul so that it works with my Airstream set up. Attaching the plug to a new cable was a struggle but it got done. N ow I have a cable that is light weight and easy to handle and store.
