Hello neighbors, Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at our replacement SKS or same key system lock core for your Yakima Cares and Racks. Specifically, code number A 138. That's right folks, so you can see it engraved there on the metal, A 138. This is the key number lock core for that Yakima SKS cylinder. Now, this does require what's called a change key to install it in the system.
I'll put that add number on the screen. Basically a change key looks like a key, but it's technically just like a tool, really. It goes into the cylinder front there, and then it allows you to place it into an empty core or remove a core that's already unlocked. So again, I wanna stress it is not, repeat, not a master key. It's simply just a tool that only goes into an unlocked core.

Should have been intuitive and obvious that I’d need 4 matching lock cores for my 2 Yakima kayak racks (front and back for each), but in my hurry I just ordered 2 lockers for two racks. Thankfully, with same key system I was able to order two more lock cores that match my key. These are very tiny and (of course) come without the key or the insertion key, so make sure you still have those from your initial purchase (I did so no issue there). If not, you will need to order the matching key. Also, for folks just starting out this is not the part you want. You want a lock core kit with the keys and however many cores you need.
