Hey there Swagman owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the replacement wheel hoop for your Swagman XC bike rack. Now, we don't like to think about it, but accidents do happen. It's entirely possible you backed into something with your bike rack in place, and now your wheel hoop is bent. In that instance, you're going to want a new one. Sometimes, unfortunately, over time they do get rusty and you don't want any of that rust transferring to your bike.
That's another instance you might want to replace your wheel hoop. The wheel hoop we're looking at today is a direct replacement for that. So rather than investing in a whole new bike rack, you can save yourself some money and just replace your wheel hoop. I'll go ahead and show you how to do that.At the end of your bike rack's arm, there is a set screw here. We want to take that out.
That's what prevents our wheel cradles from sliding all the way off. But once we take it off, no problem. Now we can freely slide off our old wheel cradle. And whichever one you're replacing you'll want to go ahead and slide that one off. And I do want to mention this does come as a quantity of one.
So for as many as you're replacing, go ahead and pick up that many.Then you can take your new hoop and slide it into place. Now it is a direct replacement, but you'll notice the finish on it is different. This is a glossy black powder coat, where this is a matte black powder coat. Swagman did have a design change and the only real difference is the color. It's going to function identically.
It's going to get you down the road just the same. And what you'll want to do once you'd get that in place is re-install your set screw here on the end. Then. You do get new hardware. So you'll get a new handle. That nut is going to line up with the square on the bottom. Place on your flat washer and then your locking handle nut. And this will tighten it down. Just like that, you're ready to get back on the road. You can adjust this for your bike, tighten it down just the same, load up your bikes just the same. And that's going to complete our look at the replacement wheel hoop for your Swagman XC bike rack.

This rack is "ok," but I have an issue with the design of the cradles. The hand nut that tightens the cradle on the base of the rack has a bolt with a nut on the underside end that tends to turn with hand tightening, making it difficult to fully tighten down the cradle without a plyers or some other tool. If you drop off a friend and his bike and fail to fully tighten down the cradle, it is subject to sliding off the base.
The replacement part is identical to the original which was of high quality. If only I would quit losing these loops when I don't have my bike on the rack! I would suggest that etrailer would use less packing when they mail an item like this.
This rack travels down the tough dirt roads of Baja California Mexico. except for me bending the wheel hoops due to operator error. Its the best rack I have used to take my mountain bikes to the trails of Baja.

A hint for the future when a loose hoop can slide off the end of the post - - put a tie wrap at each end of the post and the hoop cannot slide off!!!
Found exactly what I needed at a great cost. Shipping was fast and communications was excellent.
I bought a MAXXHAUL platform rack in July,not realizing the wheel cradles would not accomidate the small wheel of my recumbent bike. I called the experts and Anthony found thee cradles and they are just what I needed. Thank you Anthony for your advise and patients. I was not able to write a review sooner be cause about the time my cradles arrived we had a major storm here, trees down and power out. I will try to submit a pic but have been having some trouble with that lately .

This is a very good product it really makes hauling bikes very easy I do recommend Putting Velcro on the wheels and frame of your bike holding your bike to this rack, roads around here are very severe and I’ve had a couple bikes fall off but with the Velcro it’s a lot less likely,I do recommend putting some electrical tape on the ends of your bike rack so this particular parT Doesn’t fall off
